Hey. It's cool. It takes time to get used to therapy and to find the right therapist. It took me getting through two psychiatrists to find the right one. Don't give up if you don't find the right therapist. Trust me, finding the right one that's best for you? Is worth the effort. Some therapist suck. This guy sounds like one of those therapists that sucks to me. Find one you can connect with. Also there is no need to get off the meds unless you feel you don't need it. It took me years to finally stop taking medications. And I only stopped because one day I just decided to stop taking them. And I haven't taken any ever since. And I would do research on the effects the drugs you are taking has on your brain. Also look up reviews on therapist's online before you spend money on another one again.

Definitely worth doing research but keep in mind studies involving brain chemistry are probably incomplete. It's a scientific field that's sprung up fairly recently, is incredibly complicated, and real experiments in it can take decades to get to a stage where you even have reliable data. It's the same thing you see with nutrition research, only it's even more extreme here.

I'm glad you summoned the courage to seek out a therapist. That's a hard thing for a lot of us with issues. What an experience you had, though. If it helps to know, you and your buddy do a great podcast. It's something a lot of us look forward to as we deal with the rest of life's drudgery. Hang in & head up.

I'm listening now, homeslice. I cannot wait to hear your take on The Circleville Letters. Right now, I have two dudes in my ear holes talking about Mariah & Milli Vanilli. That one dude in the group went on to commit suicide, if I remember correctly.

I am listening to you guys discuss the I-70 killer. You mention not knowing about the Investigation Discovery show, Dark Minds. It is uploaded on KZitem. It is hosted by that true crime author, M. William Phelps. He's often on Deadly Women. I implore you to watch it. Just search "Dark Minds I 70." Also, former FBI profiler, John Kelly is also on the show. This show can be a bit heavy handed with the drama, but it is absolutely chilling. In particular, the episode delves deep into this case...at least, it delves far deeper than UM did. The man who was killed had long hair & it has been theorized that the killer mistook him for a woman, as he simply walked in & shot the dude execution style. Also, in Texas, one of his victims survived & she tells the story of her attack, providing new insight into this son of a bitch. Please watch it when you get the chance. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Really like the UUM podcast so I wanted to check out your KZitem. Good luck with therapy. I can see you shaking the crap out of your chair. The best thing you can say about that kind of anxiety is that it burns calories.

The best therapist is a grain therapist. Because when one of those tells you "I think you're strong enough to get through this" you think "they really know what 'strong' is". Of course they might just eat you. And you do have to know when they're saying the one thing and not the other. But you know, nothing comes without risk. For reals for a second -- I took ADHD medication for years and my body never stopped hating it. They made me physically and mentally sick far more than the ADHD did. Almost as soon as I turned eighteen I started to wean myself off them and I knew it would be a hard road -- I struggled for four and a half years to gain the ability to focus and balance myself but ultimately I did, and I'm a better and happier person for it now. I know other people who've taken the same medications for years with no side effects at all. If your meds aren't causing you pain then that's one reason to keep taking them. But if they are it's definitely worth trying to find something better, and if that doesn't work to at least try and learn to function without them. Meds can be a solution or they can be a bigger problem than what a doctor tells you your problem is, and in the long run it's definitely worth spending the time figuring out what the problem really is so you can solve *that*.

100% agreed .. for me? My mental illness struck hard at a point where I couldn't really figure it out and I had obligations that I had to do (work, etc) so the meds became a must.. but I'm slowly starting to cope though it still knocks me on my ass sometimes

That sucks. As someone with bipolar, I've been to more therapists than I can count. I know what you mean about meeting a shitty therapist. They really discourage you from furthering your journey to find help, which I think is the worst part about a bad therapist. I mean, sounds like this dude just told you the same shit you could have found on google. I'm glad to hear you're not going to give up. you seem to have a really level head about this stuff. Also, although I'm sure you already know about this since you're an intelligent guy, definitely do NOT quit your meds cold turkey like it sounds he was saying. that can really fuck up your body and head. Idk a lot about Klonopin, that's one of the few meds I've never been on. I know you will find the right therapist for you, hopefully sooner rather than later.

thanks for taking time to comment. Ya I'm not gonna give up and i'm def not quitting my meds cold turkey. I talked to my primary care dr and he said how i take them i'm fine (a. it's a low dosage and b. i don't take many of them) .. It's all a learning process I guess.. a shitty one seeing as I used to not need any of this crap haha oh well do what you gotta do

If I'm honest man, I think you know what you need to do to get your head in a good place. You come across as pretty self assured ; I think you should start listening to yourself more. If this 350 pound guy is not for you, ditch him! You got it all man, you just don't see it yet ☺️.

Dancing with Ghosts I hear you man. The odd comfort to take I guess is that everyone has their shit - everyone. I think it's human nature. I know what you're going through is slightly different but you'll come out the other side. Keep the videos going. As I've said before, I'd gladly go for a pint with you if we ever crossed paths.

I just think that these things are over blown in our society and medications are over prescribed and can potentially do more harm than good, I never been to therapy but I just hope its not a big 45 min pity party
