Each place in the world offers a different way of life and this relationship is quite unequal. A hegemonic mode of living is behind it. It's no use coming up with talk of "humanized capitalism" and thinking that Sweden is the way it is on its own merit and that the problems in Latin America are just our own flaws. There is a lot of history of colonial and imperialist relations, so today's concept helps to explain these ways of life, how they are organized, and how the imperial mode of living in one place is based on excluding access in another.
