Is that the Pelham blue SG special I bought from you that you showed us. Maybe not mine is An Epiphone but has the wrap tail piece and p90s. I'm wondering if that spot from which the SG came from the earth was indeed from California.

The Gibson logo on the Headstock has a Heavy Metal (comic book) look. If you're old enough to remember. The paint job is so retro Sci- fi looking. Not only a great paint job but a very cool design over all.

If you spray coatings over two dissimilar materials you can eventually encounter splitting issues because of different thermodynamic properties the two materials have. wood & plastics don't degrade or misshape at the same rates over time. another example would be the metallic finishes checking quite predictably. the plastics should be painted separately or relived out afterward with a razor blade before it completely cures.

Wow. I'm actually working on a Galaxy strat at the moment. I've built the body and neck and now I just need to finish it. I'll be giving it a metallic black base coat and then I'll use some pearloid Mica pigment powders and an airbrush to create the galactic swirls in different colours to make it pop. It will have all black hardware, locking Tuners, roller saddles and three hot rail pickups with some mad scientist switching options. Should be cool when it's finished.

That art was done with spray cans, if you check out street street spray paint art on youtube, its the same style. The lack of paint under the pickguard is because the body was painted in one go, and it chipped the edges of the pickguard when he removed it to install the electronics. The sandy texture on the finish was overspray from the clear coat. Super cool guitar, i have a p-bass project im doing something similar to.
@jonathanhudak2059

Alex Hornbridge just from what I can see from the video a good portion of that artwork if not all of it was airbrushed. As someone who has been using airbrushes since the late 1980s there is just No way that you can get that kind of precision work from a spray can. The amount of paint and airflow control that you can get with a high quality double action airbrush cannot be reached with a simple can of spray paint. It's one thing if you are spraying graffiti on a wall or billboard with a spray can but a guitar body is a lot smaller than that. You would have overspray all over the place. The clear coat could have been done with a spray gun like they would use in an auto body shop etc. Just trying to help 👍

I don't really know how the Gibson 57 Classic pickups sound, but I own a pair of Epiphone Alnico Classics which are modeled after the 57 Classics, so I'm in the ball park. I really love the sound of the Alnico Classics that I have, so I am not surprised to hear great sounds out of your "Space SG." I really like the looks of your guitar as well. I just can't justify the purchase, though I'm tempted. Sorry, though; I have a definite acquisition in mind for the near future, which means yon Space SG will almost certainly be gone by the time I could move on it. Oh, well ... Thanks for the video, Austin!

I’m surprised on how nice this 2018 les Paul tribute was. Played and sounded great, felt little to no difference to the standard. If anything, the standard was a lot heavier and less comfortable. The custom shop historic in the shop was noticeably nicer feeling and the weight was good.

For some strange reason, one of the angles of the camera during the distortion portion of this demo made me hanker briefly for a headless SG. There's no rhyme or reason for that, unless you factor in the whole issue about the SG being notoriously top-heavy.

Man I hear that quite often. People really seem to like 57 classics and they sell for good money on Reverb Everytime I search for them. I always end up going with a more boutique set due to the prices of the 57’s being not too far off. And in my mind the boutique set will be better, but Maybe I should go ahead and try a set of 57’s. They really do seem to have a cult following so to speak.

It looks like the pickguard was not removed before painting it. I would have removed the pickguard, painted the guitar and put a clear, see-thru pickguard on it because, paint doesn't adhere to plastic that well. Other than that, it looks awesome !!! Also, I think that painting the letters "SG" on it is kind of redundant and monotonous. I'd say that the previous owner was someone that's very young.

I have a 2000 SG I used to call it Y2K. But I turned the tross rod cover upside down so I call it Gus now. I'm going to need a fret job soon and I'm wearing the finish down to the mahogany. The frets on my SG are holding up much better than the ones on my new Stratocaster. I set up my SG as a wrap around stop bar with the bar set down right too the body. I set the bridge up high of the body because of the extreme angle where the neck connects to the body. I think my pickup's stock sound really good. I don't know what they are because I haven't taken anything apart.
