Friendly reminder for everyone against the video series: He didn’t find her in the end, she found him. Without her getting into contact with him it would’ve reached the end of the line at her former modelling agency. We also don’t know if her name is actually Alana, Max could’ve used it as his own version of an alias for her after finding out she didn’t want to be known.

it really wont encourage people to track down random people 1. it was a mob mentality following a story that seems funny 2. the people that were talented enough to do this I feel would have already been tracking down random people beforehand alone with no mob mentality (well, if they had the desire to do so before this whole scenario they would have and this situation won't change it) however I must admit that this situation will probably cause people to dive further into Alina's life and try to track her down personally despite Max discouraging it, thats just how the internet functions so its probably not the best idea to have this as a series, it seems fine at first until you realize the wild nature of the internet which makes it a whole lot more disturbing

Not really, all it would take would be someone not desperately online obsessed (there's plenty of us about to varying degrees), and she wouldn't have have a clue it was happening, and wouldn't have a footprint to trace. All the other blocks would be identical; the pure unlikely coincidence of someone who actually knows stumbling on it, and all the legal blocks for security and confidentiality. I would suggest it would have been absolutely no harder to find someone who didn't mind being found but matches my description above as it would be someone who didn't.

I'm not questioning your intentions at all, and I've loved a lot of your other content, but I really think you should consider taking these videos down. It's all very amusing at first, to watch such a random journey that started with pretty much no leads, but I think her response really puts into perspective how creepy (despite your well-meaning intentions), this entire situation is. This woman took a stock photograph 20 years ago, and now has apparently stopped modeling and removed herself from social media to live a private life. The stock photo did not have her name, nor the actual name of the photographer. Now, from your investigations, you've shared with hundreds of thousands of people this woman's name, her face, and roughly where she's from. Her saying she felt like she was a contestant in the Hunger Games is in my eyes a very obvious sign that this has made her incredibly uncomfortable. If I were you, once I received that email from her I wouldn't have edited and posted an entire new video detailing even more about her and how to (indirectly) get into contact with her. It doesn't matter that your fans were looking forward to it, I think the right thing to do would have been to just post a short video saying you found the woman, but she'd like her privacy, and that's that. I know you didn't go into this trying to be creepy, and I really like your other videos. But this really should be a lesson that there's a line you shouldn't cross just for views, and that even if something is done just for fun with pure intentions on your side, that doesn't mean it won't be perceived differently by others.
@aphextriplet6850

While entertaining, I do totally agree that caution should used. I do think it’s wrong given there’s no actual reason for him to be looking for this woman - it’s not like she catfish’s him or anything - and obviously she didn’t give consent to having her information be broadcast everywhere... I feel bad. People on the internet are dangerous and creepy, and especially given that she is a very beautiful woman, I would worry for her safety. He shouldn’t release information. At the very least if he’s going to do this he should look for people privately and only post once he’s found them and they give consent. Otherwise it’s just plain creepy and disrespectful. Like Alana said, it’s not fun for the people who don’t want to be found.

This entire series as a whole is a beautifully crafted commentary on the blurred privacy lines that the digital age and Internet has unfortunately created for all of us. It's like a light-hearted black mirror episode and for anyone who's expressing that this is creepy and/or unsettling--so is having a Google account for KZitem comments and posting to any social media platform such as this. The moment you click "I Accept the Terms & Agreements..." on nearly any digital service, you've given permission to a chunk of your privacy for that company. Max's search for 'Sarah' was really just an excellent example of the question we may ask ourselves of, _"how much digital information of myself is out there for the public and who can access it?"_ True privacy no longer exists if you have a digital footprint, it is all an illusion. Imagine what you can access on the *Dark Web* ...now that's terrifying. It's our individual responsibility to ensure we really do understand the terms and conditions we typically are so ready to agree to (myself included), simply to access the services provided. Great job Max! I look forward to seeing more about this.

Models are (were) public figures. Their image is legally owned and licensed out by agencies and photographers in exchange for money. Sometimes in perpetuity. So that's the choice you make when you decide to exchange money for your image. As you see, everyone involved, including this guy... ultimately was very private about a formerly public figure whose image is still publicly traded. Agencies and photographers will never give out personal information. So if people try to find someone in a particular country with a only first name, assuming it's her real first name, it will be extremely difficult.

I actually just want to articulate why this was a bad idea : 1. It's basically encouraging the doxxing of a stranger 2. The internet is Weird so you do not know what you're setting in motion 3. Yes she consented to be in a stock image but not to be hunted down years later 4. Sometimes people run away. Maybe from an abuser or for some other reason. 5. A stalker or abuser only has so many avenues to look at. They usually can't have a band of crowdsourcing. If anyone was looking for her for bad reasons you've probably given them way more leads than they could have had alone. 6. "Haha I'm trying to so what max fosh did, Reddit help me find this woman" maybe they post a stranger, maybe they post their ex girlfriend, don't worry, half a dozen amateur investigators will be on the case

1. He's not finding out where she lives she's only finding out who she is 2. wtf does this mean? You could do literally anything and "not know what you're setting in motion" 3. I was going to bring up private investigators and the show "Lost and Found NZ" but that's too extreme because just stock photo photographers would do the same thing if they wanted to cast her, true they don't post it KZitem but Max was the only one who actually found her 4. Oh no! Now the abuser has her name!!! What have we done?!?! You're seriously telling me some crazy obsessed stalker would not know her name? 5. Dude he's giving away like facebook bio level information I'm pretty sure even the worst stalkers would already know this stuff 6. This is the only one that I agree with but I will say that if some guy on reddit posts something similar to this it's not gonna get nearly the same amount of traction because people would just think "I've already seen something like this, this guy's just copying it" and because Max already had a strong fan base that made this thing go viral idk I might be wrong it is kinda creepy yes but I feel like you're just over exaggerating and making it seem like just because he said her name she's going to have to change her name or be killed by 100 secret internet stalkers

@evanscott146
4 жыл бұрын
@@george-and-gracie7996 TL;DR: I totally agree, and I want to elaborate for others. I thought the same thing from the first video, like 'this is definitely off.' Because creepy gestures (or crusades) are still creepy even if they have innocent intent. Over time I thought _'maybe it's not that creepy since he's doing this publicly so he can be held accountable for any potential adverse actions on his part,'_ and that's still a valid line of thought. But the thing is he's also giving all of this info to thousands of strangers on the internet, some of whom may not handle the information quite as responsibly (Max was quite responsible other than the fact that he's shed too much light on "Sarah's" personal information). Not only is he sharing identifying info on "Sarah", he's also teaching people how to stalk and he gives them that knowledge without explaining the repercussions of using such skills under the wrong conditions, which are great in number and in scope. I also think about how my reaction may have been different had it turned out to have a more 'gratifying' ending, where "Sarah's" reply is receptive and does agree to meet him and he gets the photo op etc. So many of us just wanna ride the hype train and I'm not entirely confident I would have thought as critically about it had there not been that visible discomfort voiced in her response. I may have easily slipped into a different opinion of the series had the ending gone differently, even though I'd unknowingly be contradicting my own belief that objectively, many of the things he's done in this series are actually quite unethical. I'm just alarmed that so much of his viewership didn't/doesn't seem to think that this was morally questionable. Regardless of the ending, this series was not okay.

I love Max and his videos, but this series was....unsettling. (And it's really time to take them down, now.) I think a good deal of his viewers are men and they may not see it the same way, but, and as a woman, it's really disturbing to see an entire video series about a man essentially stalking a woman he's never met because she's in a picture. The internet is an insane place and I guarantee there will be people who try to find and contact her. This poor woman is probably incredibility freaked out that a modeling job from 20 years ago is haunting her now and this publicly. I know I wouldn't want this. Her comfort or safety wasn't taken in to account until over half a million people had seen these videos or the news programs.

As a fellow woman holy fucking shit stop making everything about gender and "men don't understand x", not only is it the whole "when all you have is a hammer everything looks like a nail" thing all over again it's also insulting as hell to men and dismisses every male victim of stalking.
@bizm

@@likira111 You're deluding yourself if you think gender plays no role in to stalking. The great majority of stalkers are men. The majority of people stalked are women. That's statistics. You can't separate gender from the way people experience life the same way you can't separate skin colour. At no point did I say that men are never stalking victims or that women can't be perpetrators; of course they can. But this 'not all men' BS only ever comes up when women complain about not feeling safe. I'm literally talking about Max (a man) *stalking a woman* for views. Where's your activism when men are asking for help? Why does it only get brought up when women speak up as a way to detract from our experience? Get out of here with that side-tracking women's voices nonsense.

Like it wasn't necessary to show the name of her old company, or her full name (for ref, probably don't mention any full names)... Just because she did some modeling 15 years ago. You should consider this for future episodes, a lot of people wouldn't like this sort of attention, it's probably very unsettling if you where not expecting.

I've watched the series and with interest, and I've read through some comments on here, and I think there's a middle ground to be found. And it lies in re-formatting the series by adjusting the theme slightly and making a few core changes to the approach. If anyone, and especially Max himself, reads this, please, bare with me - it's gonna be a long one. Main thing that would have to change in the format of the series is the theme of it. I see many people in the comments to this video raising legitimate questions on ethics of social experiments like the one of the 'Search For Sarah'. The concerns mainly regarding empathy, boundaries, stalking, doxxing, anonymity, online footprint of a person, online safety, and personal life and privacy in general. So instead of the series being a series of investigations just for the sake of investigations and entertainment, maybe it would be a good idea to take an angle of being more informational and maybe even educational on the subjects raised by concerned community? Demonstrate how one's [online] activity leaves a very real trace that can fairly easily be tracked back to them. Poke at weaknesses in the system that is supposed to protect your privacy. Like, in the series we can see former employers, colleagues, or people who think they might be friends/relatives with the person being searched, easily opening up and giving access to information. Of course, the show can stay the same - with comedy, humor, and lighthearted tone. But the message behind the show could and maybe should change. Secondly, Max needs to really up his 'keeping people's privacy' game. We can clearly see him already do that - only leaving people's first names (common practice used by media of much larger scale than a 200k subscriber KZitem channel), blurring out/covering details like email addresses, usernames, any personal information that cannot be obtained in any public places (websites, social media, etc.). But there are some slip-ups here and there - showing a face of a person who asked to stay anonymous, for example. Granted, for all we know, he might've given Max permission to use the video of the call and just leave out the name. But we don't see or hear a mention of that, which would be nice. Which is exactly what I think should be done. There should be a disclaimer one each video, and maybe also a copy of it in the description, clearing up to people that all participants of the video - be it people on audio/video phone calls, or who participated in any form of correspondence (via email, messaging apps, social media, etc.), - that they all were made aware of the purposes for which information they're giving is being used, and that they gave clear permission to that. Obviously, in every case of Max contacting those people that should always be the case - full disclosure and transparency, and openness about why and for what is their voice/face/text/what have you is going to be used. Again, for all we know, Max did ask for permission and did have it, but it sure would be nice to have all that mentioned in the video as a confirmation. Like, if after showing us Alana's reply instead of just making a passing comment in the vein of: "oh btw don't stalk her lol", Max would've clearly stated that he asked for Alana's permission to make the final video and to show people her last email, and then taking a minute to make sure to address the importance of the privacy, that would've been nice. So, with all that - or maybe *at least* all that, - the series could continue in a much better, more clean, respectful way, while also not just maintaining its entertainment value, but now additionally having some educational/informative value. Thank you for your attention, whoever read this whole wall of text to the very end :)

starting an online search party to track down a random stock model is a weird enough idea to promote in the first place. you probably could have pulled it off as a quirky set of videos had you conducted it better. however, you released an unethical amount of information on these complete strangers that could very easily fall into the wrong hands. you live a priviliged and highly public life but if "sarah" wants to live a private life away from social media, there is likely a good reason for that. your short disclaimer about why no one *else* should do what you did is rendered pointless when you don't really censor anything. it seems like an open invitation for others to do the same. i understand it was just for lulz but it doesn't sit right w me. i hope u continue this series in a way that actually is "silly" without any darker undertones and w more respect for the privacy of those you are "investigating" ://

It is shockingly easy, the fact that Max used weak/sloppy methods and poorly connected the dots and still found her should prove that. A competent searcher could have found all that information in an hour and probably had where she lived within a day. And I don't mean which country or city, I mean her front door.. If people are at the level of Max, it doesn't require nearly as much concern. But quite a few people are much better at this. I've been contracted by women before to see how hard they are to find (with their informed consent and I made sure it was actually them, not a jealous ex or w/e) with my only tool being the internet. Usually took less than 24 hours to have an address or building complex. People underestimate how few datapoints are needed AND they underestimate how many datapoints they actually give up. It was a very irksome thing to do, on the one hand you're proud of succeeding, on the other hand you're disgusted it's that easy to succeed and worried that others that inspired them to contract you in the first place may do it too. Every person I got contracted by was surprised, shocked, a bit disgusted and changed a bunch of their habits. People also underestimate just how far an obsessed person may be willing to go, I think about the Free/Turney home invasion, where a guy drove like 10 hours to kill Free and confess his love/kidnap Turney. If they know your neighborhood, they may forego holiday and instead use their money to spend weeks near where you're suspected to live. I just realized your comment is a year old, I apologize! But I've typed this much I'm not going to just cancel it, I hope you understand.
