Almost reduced me to tears. As a former owner of no less than 9 Rover SD1s, (once 5 at the same time) and all my favourite 2600 this is just sooooo sad.

Thanks Sheldon for making the effort to share these cars lost in the Wilderness, sad to see them left to waste away. Once owned a 1983 2600S SD1 a Lovely old car , hopefully it's not left like these examples.

I saved an 84 series 2 from the scrappers here in NZ a couple of months ago for $500, body is rough, The 3.5 V8 fires first time and I drove it home and she drove beautifully, One of only 3 registered in the Country, Best it be restored and given a new lease of life. Would love get my hands on a vitesse rear spoiler.

I worked at a local car dealership as a school kid in the very early 80's and I remember a pair of SD1's sitting there for 12 months or more. They were only a few years old but nobody wanted or could afford them. The paint was dull and even then rust appearing but in fairness that was true of a lot of if not most cars back then. Also at a local Ford dealer in around 1982 was a delivery mileage RS2000 in red which was about £4k people wanted instead the XR3. I had an interesting car childhood as we lived in Birmingham and would often see prototypes driven between the various factories in the BL empire. I remember seeing the Ambassador, MG Metro Turbo , Sherpa 400 and the XJ40 which was interesting because this was long before the access we now have on the Internet. We'd have to wait for spy photos in CAR magazine from Hans Lenham or stories from family members working for the industry.

Always interesting if rather sad to see this kind of thing. Even better would be to find an owner who wants to have his place cleared. Although you'd need a team of people and equipment to do it, it would somehow give closure as each car is pulled out, getting a better look and at least some small items could then be salvaged and go towards keeping other cars on the road.

What a shame that they were left to rot. The owner has missed out there. Where I live a Vauxhall Velux has been parked in a garden for at least 30 plus years. I've lived in this village for 30 years and its been there all that time.
