Hi there! Sigh…I feel sooooo pai seh to disappoint you, that you wasted making your trip to KopiTiam. We replaced KopiTiam signage with a new name Coz we made changes to the menu with a new chef, who cooks well, unfortunately not Singaporean food. And you got there before we removed ‘KopiTiam’. Our most sincere apology.
Kopitiam means coffee shop in Hokkien. It refers to local style coffee shops with a few stalls and a dining area within the same compound. The local chain of food courts named "Kopitiam" are not actually Kopitiams because they are too big in scale.😅

Nasi Lemak with fried chicken is definitely more common in Malaysia, but you can find places that sell it with curry chicken, maybe just not everywhere. There are also some places that sell Nasi Lemak with chicken or beef rendang, and I just discovered a place that serves it with mutton curry. And there are also non-halal versions that comes with pork. We have countless choices when it comes to Nasi Lemak!

Even in Indonesia, extremely rarely there's a curry in nasi lemak/nasi uduk. What served as accompanying side dishes mostly dry varieties. So, I'm not sure where's the curry idea come from, since I remember there aren't any in Malaysia either.

Nasi Lemak with curry is pretty rare but it's possible if you search hard enough. They probably wanted to make it worth the amount of money spent to include the curry. Anyways great content and making me hungry as usual lol!

Curry with Nasi Lemak isn't normal in Malaysia, but we do have that option at some places, even with the option of Rendang or Ayam Masak Merah as well.

Normally, it's the peranakans that serve achar with nasi lemak. Next time, try having the keropok with the achar. We snack on that a lot at Chinese New Year, it's very good with prawn keropok. If it's peanut flavour achar, it's probably Nonya style achar. With Peranakan cuisine, it's not uncommon to have curry chicken with nasi lemak. Yes, Nonya laksa has taugeh. It looks like Melaka style Nonya Laksa. As for that citrusy flavour, you might be tasting the daun limau kasturi, a favourite ingredient in Nonya cuisine.

The authentic NasiLemak only served with coconut rice, sambal sauce (the soul), ikan pilis, deep dried peanut, slices of cucumber, and fullboil egg. Topping with Fried chicken wing, fish cake, nugget, chicken cutlet and etc are the varieties only 'norm' to be found at Singapore. Malaysia style if you would have 'improved' topping are mostly ayam masak merah, ayam/daging rendang, ayam goreng rempah and etc ~

I feel you should try authentic Malaysian cuisine first before taking this trip to Barcelona to intro those dishes. In this video, I noticed a lot of second guessing and even a few mispronounciation of malaysia classic dishes from the menu. It's like asking an African to review Korean kimchi in Brazil. However, I do not totally fault you as you were not born & bred in SG, prob your wife would be in a much better position to do this review. Anws, double thumbs up for your effort while doing what most people can only dream about for a job 👍🏻 👍🏻
