We lived there from 1963 - 66 when my father was the lighthouse keeper. If you think the Fraggles were bad in 1983, in 1963 they were really wild!!

I had heard of ‘Fraggle Rock’ but have never seen it. The window you added certainly fooled me, and I think you did an excellent job recreating the original opening scene, especially when you put the original to compare it to. Loved seeing the coast line and the fishing boat on its way out and you circling around the light house.

Beautiful shots of St Antony's, loved fraggle rock as a kid, and grew up near where the opening was filmed. I remember watching it on nights where my mum was working late, so my dad and I would watch the repeats of old childrens programmes that were on the later night slots, with if I remember the correct order it was The Wombles, Fraggle Rock, The Clangers, Bagpuss, then Mr Ben

Funnily, the lighthouse wasn't used in the US or Canada (I watched Fraggle Rock on both HBO in the US, and CBC in Canada), but a different building was used instead and every video I see of the OP just shows cutting through a generic window.

What is most remarkable is that the original would have been shot with a helicopter. I suspect that they'll have used zoom to get in closer, similar to your method with the window shot.
@biscuitsalive

Yep heli. (Can see prop wash blowing bushes) But even with a zoom lens you can see they few very close to the lighthouse. Drones make life much easier for shots like that.

I was trying to figure that too. At first I thought helicopter. But proximity to lighthouse and movement doesn’t seem that was likely. So must have been a big camera jib. That would explain the angle they chose (much closer to ground and over the land.)
@biscuitsalive
2 жыл бұрын
But then it does start very high.... maybe a combination of helicopter and jib. Blended together. Now I would really like to know too!

@@biscuitsalive great video. Awesome collection of skills, but I admire your tenacity to get around all the problems of recreating the original. How did they do that in the early 1980’s. Almost certainly they used a helicopter for some of it. I live in the area, I’ll ask around and see if anyone remembers locally. Our window cleaner lives at St Anthony Head, but he’s not been there that long. Also, I knew the National Trust warden who lived there, probably about that time, and they might know, but they’ve moved since. You’ve got me puzzled too. I’ll ask around. Lol

@@martinrcflyer4089 yep helicopter. On rewatching it you can see the bushes being blown around by the prop wash. They flew bloody close to the lighthouse!!! Just imagine, a huge helicopter flying about a meter from a lighthouse. (Compared to my tiny lightweight drone.)

@@biscuitsalive Funny you should mention it. I was flown to a lighthouse in a helicopter in 1985. It landed on a piece of ground that would hardly fit a small car on. Unfortunately I only had a 35mm slr with me. Adventure cameras were Bolex 16mm jobs and around 3 months wages.

@@collinjames9201 Yes the UK version was different, unfortunately the UK Version is not available on DVD because the original broadcaster [ TVS - a former ITV company in the days when the channel was made up of regional franchises on a network not the crappy channel it is today] lost its broadcasting licence to another franchise when the company lost money and sadly they didn't protect their programming distribution rights so a lot of their programmes never made it DVD. Fraggle Rock was broadcast in the UK from the 10th January 1983 [ a year into the franchises existence ] to 30th March 1987, so I grew up with it. So it's sad that only the US version of the series is available.

🇨🇦 Canadian who grew up with the original series here, I confirm the intro was different in our market: A brown exterior wall and window of some kind. As the famous bass riff starts the camera zooms through the lower right pane of the window and reveals a workshop where Doc - an ‘eccentric’ old inventor - is screwing something on his desk while Sprocket his (muppet) dog is napping at his feet. The camera pans to the right to reveal a hole in the wall, going through it as we hear woooosh and the theme song’s melody beginning… and the rest is the same. The entire thing was filmed in a studio, unlike the UK version which had real footage of a lighthouse. Great memories! ❤
