You probably need to use an older vehicle that does not have a catalytic converter for this as the cat reduces CO (carbon monoxide) to almost zero. I guess if you start the car from cold and let it idle the cat may not get hot enough to work though. I might try this with the exhaust from my mower.

No they DON'T make honey, but they DO pollinate, AND catch harmful and destructive insects (like mosquitoes, cutworms, hornworms etc,) to feed to their larva. I understand not wanting them in your yard. But you DO need to recognize that they're NOT just pests, and if they're where their presence doesn't endanger people or pets, they should be left alone.
@muskokamike127
2 жыл бұрын
They are not honey bees but they ARE a crucial part of the eco system. They pollinate flowers, they eat pest insects, and other things. If they are near your home and have kids, yes get rid of them BUT out in the back 40 or where there aren't kids around, leave em alone. Dangerous? More kids in Canada die in bicycle accidents and many thousands more injured....so you'd better not let your kids ride bicycles!

Maybe that is simply a matter of confusion. Here in Germany for example we don't have yellow jackets at all. Two wasp species here (paravespula germanica and vulgaris) look very similar to the yellow jackets. They are an annoyance but are generally benign. Some other wasp species are highly protected over here. Hence wasps are not regarded as a pest at all. I love to have wasp and hornet nests around my house since they keep it clear of a lot of other annoying insects. Those who object to these videos may never have had to deal with real agressive wasps or hornets and don't have the whole picture in mind.

Just did the same thing. Yellow jackets had a nest under my rear deck. Lots of activity and I'm allergic to their sting. The next morning, gone, dead, destroyed. Very satisfying!
@John_Ridley

I built a little device for that. Empty/clean peanut butter jar, drill a hole for a tire valve stem and another for a snug fit on some tubing. Put Sevin in it. Wait until after dark, attach bicycle pump to the valve stem, push tube into yellow jacket hole, give it a few pumps, injects Sevin right down into the next. Nothing alive in a few minutes. For areas where there are kids or pets, I have used diatomacious earth in the same rig, works fine as well. Once used that to wipe out a large nest that was in my daughter's ceiling and they were just about to break through the drywall into the living area.

Interesting... though as others have noted, the exhaust from a modern car or light truck will ordinarily contain essentially no carbon monoxide, so it's a combination of carbon dioxide and lack of oxygen that kills the critters. Last year, I encountered a very busy yellowjacket nest in the front yard - very fortunately seeing the cloud of wasps from some distance; having recently acquired an allergy to wasp stings, I have no desire to encounter a swarm of yellowjackets up close and personal. Over the next couple of days, I worked up a plan of attack (I don't recall the details, but deploying a battery-powered bug fogger upwind was involved), but before I could carry it out the entire nest was dug up by a skunk. Thanks, skunk!

From a chemistry and engineering perspective that (probably) won't be carbon monoxide, it'll be carbon dioxide. Modern cars are fitted with catalytic converters which catalyse CO into CO2 and also the ECU means that an engine almost always has complete combustion. CO is produced through incomplete combustion and as such it's still a flammable gas in an oxygen atmosphere, as such most modern engines are designed to get bit of energy possible from a hydrocarbon by turning it into CO2 and H2O and the rest (except for a negligible amount) is turned into CO2 by the catalytic converter. So if you ever decide to run a hosepipe from your tailpipe to the window, expect to wait a very long time. Also if people are gonna whine over your car producing CO2 versus you using a pesticide, they probably haven't calculated how much CO2 is created in pesticide production.

I live in Puerto Rico and we thankfully don't have moles, squirrels wasps and such. But, I am aware they are a pain for most people who do have to deal with them. It's sad to see a channel with helpful and educative content get these sort of problems due to foreign viewers who get offended easily. When I always choose to watch something on YT, I either check if I'd enjoy it before clicking on it or if i did click on it and i don't like it, I quickly close the video. It's that simple. I also watch the mink man, can't say I enjoy watching the mink killing the muskrat but the fact that animal causes harm than good, I don't feel bad for the muskrat. Especially the rats. Ugh.

Those negative comments just showed that some people don't know much about the yellow jackets. They haven't dealt with a colony, stung by one or have a few flying around their faces. Some also doesn't realize that if we don't do pest control. It won't just be a danger to humans but to other animals too because the population would be too numerous. It'll be hard to get rid of them.

Had to look it up, and yes, apparently bees, wasps and hornets amongst other insects are protected in Germany. And yellow jackets are specifically included. Maybe European insects are tamer? I mean it could be like the difference between the docile European honeybee versus the aggressive africanized honeybees. Maybe the German yellow jackets are not as aggressive as what we have in North America. The only natural way I saw a colony killed was when one took up residence on our back door - except nearby we had some spiders in the shrubs with rather large webs. I don't believe I was ever bothered by that nest nor saw a single wasp or hornet. The next year the shrubs were filled with spiders and webs. I think we had a lot less mosquitoes as well.
@bubba99009

I doubt there's much of a difference in the insect behavior but the green lobby in Germany is extremely crazy and powerful. They did manage to get their entire nuclear industry shut down in favor of burning Russian fossil fuels to produce electricity. How any of it makes any sense even if you are any kind of environmentalist I don't know - but that's Germany for you.

No it’s just woke Germany, Our yellowjackets are pretty swarm liable if you’re near the nest for too long but the bees being docile is a breeding thing. I found something that works really well too a gallon of pool chlorine a hose and a funnel pretty much works the same way you had it there. You stick the hose in the entrance cover it up pour the pool chlorine in You're done. They die pretty quickly I usually leave it overnight now somebody's going to complain about me pouring pool chlorine on the ground. But if you have a pool you pour it on the ground all the time.
