Now you say it, the ring in the movies (I haven't read the books) reads better as a metaphor for capitalism than it does for nuclear power, IMO. The ring brings out greed and avarice, and people follow it slavishly while it drains them of all things positive. The orcs etc still work very effectively as analogies for the Nazis, just like the Harkonnens in Dune, imo

It wasn't even a film, it was a "filmed spectacle" - basically a play performed by theater troupe, that was filmed, because they didn't get any real funding, but was entusiastic to do something like a film with that little, what they have. Of Course it is ridiculous and hilarious in so many ways to modern audience. Yet it was done in dying shithole of a country, that was about to collapse, with scant resources, by a team of enthusiasts, who despite all odds and personal burdens of that time, tried their best to create this spectacle, out of love for art, literature and Tolkien's legacy. And because of that - it is, yes - ridiculous, but strangely endearing at the same time. Especially in contrast to TROP, that had all the money in the world, yet managed only to insult memory of Tolkien and his work. In a weird way, it reminded me Ugandian "Who killed captain Alex?". Both - an honest attempts, that was done, without any real resources to realize them properly, on a pure enthusiasm - against all other odds, and practically as an act of defiance to the material circumstances of their respective creators.

You put it more eloquently than I ever could, I do admire the effort and also the fact that is also likely made for younger audiences as well so that zany music and effects would fit in. I think even at the core of it, you see people who tried to make something worthwhile with the huge limitations they clearly had with resources/funding etc. I personally loved it!

Another that needs multiple viewings to really appreciate. I would happily watch you review the entirety of this masterpiece. To be fair you could read the back of a domestos bottle and it would be infinitely funnier than 99.9% of stuff out there.

Thank you for making these. Love the English accent too. If you could go back and revisit the rings of power and do each episode over like you did with 7 and 8 that would be wonderful! I'm serious! I will pay you!!😄 That used condom falling on the Balrog's head was awesome! Humor is the best way to deal with this abomination of a series. (It's really a shame too, because in the right hands this could have been a good show. I am interested in seeing the lore come to life. I would love to see how Anatar (Sauron) managed to trick the elves; how he worked with Calibrimbor to learn to craft rings. That would have been really cool. It takes more than 8 episodes though. And fuck the Harfoots! Who gives a shit about that side-story.) That reminds me - your Skyrim comment was perfect. The entire show was a bunch of stupid optional side quests. Never did I fear for anyone or anything. The only characters I liked were Adar and Berrick, and the latter had not a single spoken line. Well, I suppose the discount-Emma Watson character with the big boobs was fun to look at, but even she was unnecessary and her character was as developed as bleached vanilla. Anyway, please keep these going. I look forward to them sooooo much! Cheers, mate!

I'm going to watch the whole movie now as you have made it look like pun! I have to say your review is classless. They were clearly doing the best they could with the means of production that were available. The talent was collected and redistributed to all the actors according to their needs. It honestly looks like they were trying to honour the source material, which automatically makes it thousands of times better than ROP. The idea of using servants as furniture was also mentioned in "Blackadder," so I don't know if that predates this movie or not. Lord Flashheart uses Baldrick as a footstool in "Blackadder 4," in which the Russian Revolution was also mentioned. Baldrick said he had heard of Nicholas who "used to be bizarre." I hope you caught all my little puns, and thank you for the review! PS. Russia is really good at putting on a show. There's a very funny blog, whose humor I think you'll appreciate. The article title is "how to gymnastics exhibition, starring Russia." The blog name is balancebeamsituation dot com. 😂
