As someone who had a medically necessary c section that led to multiple c sections, with the final one resulting in a hysterectomy as well, I advocate for as few medical interventions in birth as possible (where it is safe to do so). I truly appreciate women talking out about the normal physiological experience of birth. I love watching your videos!

Thank you for being so transparent. I’m a grandmother of 7 grandchildren of which 3 we’re home births. What an amazing difference between hospital and home births. I had all mine in Hospital (I didn’t know any better at the time) and I’m sold on home births now. I hope to have more grandchildren in the near future birthed at home. May God bless you and your sweet family. I enjoy all your videos. ❤

I am so grateful that I was able to get the care I needed on my second time around, when the home birth ended up shifting to hospital, but I would trade it for an unmedicated, straightforward home birth every time. We are so fortunate to have incredible midwives with their level of training and funding here in Ontario. My homebirth was so many things, but above all, it was comforting, and that might be the best thing about being able to give birth in your own home. It felt like a sanctuary.

You look beautiful in that color! So wonderful to find like minded friends! I read the Lamaze Method of Childbirth years ago and had my two youngest children using that method. Totally pain free. Thank you for being you! ❤

I’ve only had one baby, and it was a home birth with three certified midwives present. So worth it. Birth, if it can be done without any intervention, is so much healthier for mother and baby. No stitches, either. My recovery was a breeze and my son had a peaceful introduction into the world. I know hospitals save lives but there’s a fundamental problem with how US hospitals treat every birth like an emergency, and at this point, with the maternal death rate rising, it doesn’t seem to be working very well.

My thought process was I didn’t care about the pain of labor but the pain of recovery. I wanted an easy recovery being my husband would only be home for three days and I have no living family, so I did what I could while I was pregnant to prepare my body as much as I could for labor. I even did my own physical therapy regime for my pelvic floor. I’ll take the 3 hours of back labor over the weeks of recovering from a c-section or unnecessary episiotomy any day!

I really enjoyed listening to this. I try my hardest to stay away from hospitals, which is impossible given my genetic liver disease. A disease I was told from many doctors would kill me if I were to become pregnant. Now I’m questioning that. Not that I could have a baby now anyway, I’m not well enough, but it does make me wonder. I’m into making things and learning the history of things and practices, I don’t think anyone could possibly be offended by this video. I think you’ve done women and men a great service by sharing your experiences and thoughts. Good job Katherine! 🌷💕🐣 Edit: typo

My doctors told my parents at twelve that I shouldn't have children. They recommended sterilization and offered to schedule it then and there. I have genetic disorders galore, including AV malformations. My parents refused, thankfully. Doctors are very limited. There are risks to every birth, every life, each decision. 💗 I am sorry to hear of your health issues. >

@@living4mylord that sounds horrible! reproductive organs help with the development of our bones and other things. Same with animals, I’m against spaying and neutering too young but on the other hand I understand why it’s promoted. With humans I will risk putting my 2 cents in about “changing sexes” before adulthood. Those hormones help other parts of your body develop, it’s criminal to remove important organs when one is still developing. Thank God your parents were smart, letting the doctors do that very well could have added to your issues. I’m sorry to hear about your genetic issues too. From the little fish icon I take it you’re a believer in Christ. Take comfort in knowing we will one day have glorified bodies that can’t get sick. I think about it everyday! 😇

Love this video!, My mother was pushed/tricked by the hospital into having an induced birth (NOT a good experience) and my mother in law was coerced into a hospital birth for one baby and then went against medical advice to have next baby at home (all went well). I was adamant I was going to have a home birth and read everything I could about natural birth (Mainly Michel Odent) and had my babies at home with no need for any drugs, my son was even delivered by my husband as the labour was so quick the midwife couldn't get there in time! Giving birth was an amazing experience and not traumatic at all, intense but not painful was my experience as well.

It isn't a vulgar example at all. There is so much medical intervention at every point in this age. What you described in my mind was an embryo transfer or egg retrieval. Seriously. It has all been stripped away from us and many have given it up freely or sought out the medicalized route. Anything we can do to educate ourselves, previous generations, FUTURE generations, we must do so. I have more I could share but I am so thankful for your video Katherine. Heading to bed, thank you! >

Thank you, Katherine, I appreciate you sharing your experiences. I had the best of both worlds: I had 3 unmedicated births, without any interventions, with just my husband and a midwife present - in a german hospital. Went home 4 hours after my babies were born. For me it was the perfect way.

I was expecting you to mention Michel Odent he another great resource for home birth, he was an French obstetrician who wrote multiple books about natural birth and ran a natural birth centre in France - I also know personally people he helped have a natural home birth here in the UK. He was the main person I read before having my (all natural, pain free homebirths)

I'm hoping to follow in your footsteps in terms of homebirth (once that point comes)! Honestly one of the advantages of living now may be that it is a lot safer to give birth at home, due to the fact that if medical help is needed, it tends to be a lot easier to get to (fast transportation, ambulances, and the gear that midwives have). I have a mother who gave birth relatively naturally five times (at hospital); she had to write a birth plan to force the hospital to comply, as well as hire a midwife or doula or something to tell them to get out of her hair. Her first birth had some mishaps because they did things she did not want done and she didn't know it till later (I believe), but her stories are useful and interesting.

A beautiful discussion on the childbirth, thank you. More such discussions are needed for women to regain faith in their own abilities and feel confident they are able to give birth naturally. I was so convinced by the horrors I heard growing up from hospital births I shied off having any children as I did not want to go through all that and then possibly not have a partner as well as it was also a time of high divorce rate so we were basically told at school there was a good chance we would be divorced at least once in our life time. A friend who gave birth to her first said all the relaxation techniques really worked and reduced the pain but as she was having her first born in a hospital they kept coming in at intervals interrupting her meditation to check the dealation of her cervices and then she would come out of her meditative state and found the pain increased tremendously . I think home births are wonderful as women are basically made to this but we have been convinced we are not and so fear really plays into the idea through stories, movies etc. Congratulations for sticking to your own ideas and being able to bring it to fruition. Your children are blessed to have such a strong and determined mother as I suspect modern birthing techniques in hospitals is about creating physical, emotional and spiritual trauma for both the mother and child which then generates complications and increases the monetary gain for the medical big pharma industry . Of course there a good souls in every system but the over arching intention is to generate situations and complication that can generate more income for the medical profession. Harsh I know but just listening to women in my own family, not one has had a good experience giving birth in the hospital system, as soon as they stepped into the hospital their birth was dictated to them.

Thank you so much for this video Katherine! I'm at the point between baby number one and two (21 weeks with #2) where I know birth can be so different from the experience I had with my first. I'm so grateful for his birth, it cracked me open and made me question so much, made me pursue so much knowledge in the two years that have passed since...that I can't wait to find out what else birth has to offer. Painless birth is such an endlessly fascinating topic. One book you might also enjoy is "Portal" by Yolande Norris-Clark. I read it very recently, and it also explains the deeper significance of birth so beautifully. Came here from your sewing content, amazed at what you shared :) all the love to you and your family.

Although I would never deliver my children alone at home I have a mother-in-law (not the speaker here) who did it five times successfully, and I recommend that each woman keep her options open for at least her first pregnancy and develop with an ob-gyn an informed, clear outline of when to switch options.

Hi Katherine, fantastic video, my question is , how do you deal with a vaginal tear that might be larger then normal? Does your midwife stitch? Or is there a natural way you deal with it. Some babies are quite large at birth.😍
