Good to hear someone talk positively about trying life without alcohol. I've done the same, better sleep, up early, starting to loose weight. I'm four week in, I'm more motivated . your right in all that you said you feel. good luck with the cottage.

It was a pleasure to drop by Padre. I learned a lot. It got me thinking. Glad you made it through Covid. Be safe on the Ranch.

Inspired to have a period of abstinence after your story, I was drinking too much beer then I switched to cider as I had gout but cant seem to have a night off lately. Im sure I can quit, just got to do it..

I gave up alcohol 1 year and 1 month ago. No regrets. No thoughts or temptations to go back to it. Not only due to great health benefits (weight loss, better sleep, stronger immunity), but also as it spared so much time for doing other things with a clear mind -- books, sports, walks, playing piano, prayer. It also feels that as I am on a descent of my life path (not old, but crossed the life midpoint) it is part of preparing for meeting our Lord Jesus Christ -- faithful, grateful, fit and sober. God Bless!

Thanks to youtube for suggesting your channel - I will try to drink less - I have cut down from a copious amount to countable over the last 2 years - and really need to keep to 14 units a week - so thank you

Great achievement as it is not easy to buck a comforting habit. If you enjoy the sharpness and extra mental clarity you should try the odd day of fasting! It has a similar effect on your nervous system. Maybe start with one meal per day and then try and reach 24 hours.

Glad you're better from Covid. There are certain days of the week when I don't have alcohol and, even though when I do imbibe, I have only one glass, I still notice a difference the morning after. Perhaps a nightcap of a snifter of good malt could be a nice habit, to savour while reflecting on the day.

All so very insightful! Covid nearly killed me in 2021 - I spent over a month in the hospital. Needed a walker and oxygen when I came home, I was too, as weak as a kitten. I am intrigued by the notion of giving up alcohol, though I enjoy it for much the same reasons you do. Hmmmm.... you have given me much food for thought, and I thank you for that. Glad you are feeling better. Do not be surprised, however, if you have some fatigue in your recovery. It can come out of nowhere and really knock you down. God Bless!

I’m curious father you seemed very settled in your seemingly idyllic village cottage new wall new boat bees in the garden.Suddenly you give it all up for a very challenging project moving house is bad enough you purchased a jungle ruin? Oh by the way did you catch any crayfish ?

Yes, it does seem crazy on the face of it but I have always yearned for complete solitude and to live more fully immersed in nature. The bees will come with me but I shall sell the boat if I can. I suppose even in an idyllic village one can stagnate and I do like a challenge.
