This is great mate! I already thought I knew how pumped you were for this change, but you managed to really paint a complete picture about the different ways it will change things for you. The Negative/Positive aspect really is something I hadn't thought about, and it's exactly what you need in your work life! You've always been a great, positive influence - even when everything turns to shit and I'm at my Crankiest... this change will get you back there again and then some:)

Thanks so much mate. Yeah I agree. It was way too easy back in the day. We're so vulnerable on the road, so it's really important to be thinking about good road craft and to have a low risk attitude at all times. We can still have fun, but manage our risks at the same time.

1980, day I turned 16, local one man police station after school, asked me a handful of questions, I handed over $3, walked out with learners licence and cardboard 'L' plate. Didn't even have to know how to ride, but was let loose on the roads to hopefully survive 'til 17 and take my 'P' plate test.

Congratulations on the new career path mate... don't forget to teach them that some bikes are wider at the back than the front! 😉🤣 Your licencing laws sound almost as complicated as ours! Is great you are feeling better physically Bill, and ace you feel you can do some new vids as well 🙂👍

Thanks so much mate! I'll be sure to show them that video as what not to do! HaHa! Yeah, it's a complicated process and one that I'm still wrapping my head around because there are a number of individual situations that fall outside of these boxes which need to be treated a bit differently. There's a lot of things you have to be on top of and thinking about. Some days will be easy, but others will be stressful no doubt!

Well done Bill. Man, they sure make it hard to get a license these days. I'm from the era when you rode up to the Motor registry, and they would say ride around the block and then come back and do a figure of eight, and that was it. While it certainly needed to be changed, I wonder how many potential young riders have decided it's not worth the expense or effort. I'm sure you have noticed it's mostly mature age riders you see out and about. What would be the costs of getting to your unlimited license?
@MrAusadventure
7 ай бұрын
Thanks mate. Yeah, it is a lot harder these days for sure. I do tend to see a lot of mature riders where I go, but I see what seems to be a lot of younger riders around town on small commuter bikes. Judging by their body size anyway, they look young. And we do get a lot of young riders through the courses. It is a mix of ages but early 20's males is very common. The cost is about a grand for all the courses all up. Then they have the cost of getting a bike and getting all their gear, so it's not a cheap exercise!

Yeah, it's definitely a lot more complicated now than when I got my licence back in the 90's in Vic. Hopefully the stats show that riders are safer now but it all depends on the attitude of the rider in the end.

@@MrAusadventure Rider, like driver, defensively... But you still get ones that teach you how to pass a test and not to actually drive. Things you pick up from riding have improved how I drive, like watching the wheels on a vehicle about to pull out rather than the vehicle itself. And being legal and dead vs not and alright, grey lines everywhere. I remember while learning to drive was taken down a dirt road and then they just pulled the handbrake.

There are a few options that we tell the students about at the end of their learner course. Which are social riding groups aimed at pairing learners with supervisors. A number of Facebook groups etc. Plus we also offer a Ride Time service for those who wish to brush up on their skills before they return for their RE course.
