@nathnathn

Considering self hypnosis tries to put your body to sleep but keep the mind awake without any active involvement from someone else. Sleeps not an unlikely result tho ild still consider it a success considering iv got insomnia. Iv tried it before but just dont have the time to “train” to get in the right state for long enough. Usually just after starting to get in the right state il be jolted out of it.

My dad and I are big skeptics, crazy thing is, years before I was born he used hypnosis to quit smoking. And it worked. Main things she said were “you’re hand is going to feel heavy when you have a cigarette” and “you’re going to smoke using your non dominant hand”. I can’t testify more than that, but it just might work.

Hypnosis isn't the abylity to control someone or change his behavior. For Hypnosis to work the one being hypnotized need to want to change something about himself/herself, you cant control someone in your will he must want to be controlled or be changed.

The book “Switch On Your Brain” by Dr. Caroline Leaf, covers this in great detail. The book covers a subject called “Neuroplasticity” and how you can retire your mind on a cellular level simply by controlling your thought patterns. The mind controls the brain if you are intentional, but the brain will control the mind of you are not.

I was born with a minor speech impediment. So minor it barely factored into my childhood and would barely remember that I had to see a speech therapist at school once every few weeks. Had a very traumatic experience as a teenager (involving a concussion as well) and the speech impediment then became a major facet of my life. Not full blown stuttering (probably twice a month) but the anxiety over it became debilitating. Have tried many modalities including speech therapy over 30+ years since, and while some helped it’s never fully gone away. Just did one light hypnosis (20 min and didn’t even directly address speech issues) a couple weeks ago and, to my surprise, I saw immediate improvements to my speech. While my speech isn’t and probably never will be perfect, I haven’t stuttered once since then (was stuttering 2-3x times per week just prior as it’s been stressful plus the effects of the pandemic). Moreover, a majority of the time my speech has been clear and mostly cohesive, which is rarely the case. We haven’t done a full hypnosis session yet as we’re unpacking my trauma first (she’s also a LCSW) to be safe. I absolutely believe this video and the effects it had on his French fries cravings, in the power of the subconscious mind, and am looking to have my full hypnotherapy session. And then perhaps more sessions to deprogram (my interpretation of hypnosis) other negative habits and mindsets.

I can understand why hypnosis works and its allure. Reinforcements, either positive or negative, can change our thought process. The brain is malleable in the way it operates and structurally, tho hard to recover in both aspects as well or overhaul the way it operates (or thinks, sends signals) into something more desirable and improved. Mental images from life experiences, dreams or the imagination can trigger our deepest emotions and secrets and those tend to be longer lasting.. I read a book that the brain thinks in images.. not 100% sure but very powerful indeed.

When I was about 18 I started trying to eat really healthy. I read about what sugar and greasy stuff does to your body and the benefits of eating healthy things. The more I kept to eating healthy things the more I could imagine what unhealthy things did to my body and I’d feel sluggish and yucky when I ate potato chips or a big slice of cake. I’m not sure if it was my imagination or my body really reacting to it but either way it was a good thing to me! Then I got pregnant and for 6 months I was nauseous and sick ALL THE TIME! Everything I ever understood to be unhealthy for me were the things that made me throw up, the smell, the taste, even the sight I couldn’t stand. I’m in the third trimester now and I don’t throw up any more and I actually crave sugary things every once and a while. But I thought it was so odd how years of training my body to identify bad things really, really effected me in a way I was very surprised about!
