"Schedule cleared up!" lol I like how you can maintain your sense of humor. If I got laid off, I would be crying. Tears of JOY. I think your Dad was right. You need to go all in with your KZitem. We need more people like you sharing truths about the corporate world. Your honesty shines through in your videos. People will gravitate towards that...especially in today's uncertain world.

I think you'll do fine. I've been running my own company for 3 years and I always go through these periods where clients want to move on and I have to redefine my offering and find new clients. It's always nerve racking especially when the savings are low, but God always pulls through. Even when you're used to working at a company you can always pickup work somewhere else.

It’s inspiring that you are able to continue growing through the challenges and working on your own company. It must take a lot of discipline and hard work. Thank you! Maybe one day for me too 😙

@@Sakurambo What started it for me was I had one opportunity that was very JOB. as in it had many benefits and pretty good pay and all that. Then I had another opportunity with a company that was more freelance with no guarantee but I could take what I learned and apply it to other customers. I took the more risky opportunity and never looked back

Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing this. Being laid off is a fear of mine that I don't really talk about. My wife and I have done a good job of saving, but it's still a fear.

I definitely understand the fear. It sort of felt like knowing I might have to dive into an ice bath. The anticipation the last few months was worse than the shock of it. Please take care 🤍 I certainly hope you nor your wife will have to go through it.

Having to prove yourself to people and re-establish work relationships is indeed a difficult task. Though many people are nice, some can be very unreasonable and difficult. Unfortunately, life is full of ups and downs. Never be too happy or too sad. Try to take everything a bit stoically although this is easier said than done.

[Disclaimer, world's longest YT comment]: Ohisashiburi desu :) Ok, foof, I'm processing this video! Sakura, this news sucks and I'm sorry you had to experience a lay-off. This video was relatable in many ways (I got laid off a week before Xmas '22, great timing right?). Thank you for uploading this #layoffdiaries vlog. It truly is rare to watch/listen to what goes through one's mind right after getting laid-off. Thoroughly impressed at how collected you seemed on Day 1. Sure, taking a bath "BECAUSE I CAN!" probably didn't have the effect you were expecting, but wow, to turn this moment around and ending up writing a Job Hunting Guide for others?! It just shows how much you love to support people grow and flourish. I'm sure it has been/will be helpful for others...and perhaps cathartic in some ways to write it for yourself too (?) as you collect your thoughts and get your action-items in order. People will remember you as that former colleague who took immediate action after a lay-off in support. And loved seeing how loving and supportive your family (husband, dad, sisters, etc.) were. Blessed! The saddest parts of being laid-off for me was 1) not being able to share the news right away with my family in fear of criticism, pity & despair...and 2) saying bye to relationships I've cultivated with my colleagues and the exciting work we accomplished together AND future plans in the pipeline. By the grace of technology, it's not a complete "goodbye", we are connected, & our professional/personal paths may intersect again... but it just won't be the same. Anyhow, I continue to wish you the BEST moving forward...in taking a moment to think through what goals & opportunities you want to invite into your future, how un/paid work will play a role, and the types of new relationships you look forward to building that will get you closer to those goals/opportunities. Thanks for sharing your journey with us! ガンバ!

You should have written a disclaimer for writing a comment that would make me tear up. First of all, thank you so much for your incredibly kind words, especially being in a similar situation yourself. Your empathy is incredible. I am so, so sorry this happened. As you mentioned, I am very lucky that I have a strong support system (I don’t know what I would have done otherwise), and it breaks my heart to hear that you are not able to share similarly to your family. Please know that layoffs are NOT a reflection of you, your values,or your abilities. It doesn’t define you. And you WILL continue to succeed and thrive. I know you mentioned before about thinking about pivoting to L&D, so I’ll definitely be making more videos to how to do that this year 😊 Saying goodbye to the relationships is the hardest part when our time has been cut short. I absolutely recommend staying in touch (I’ve made many new relationships on LinkedIn this year!) and let’s both get through to this together. I hope that me sharing gives you at least some small comfort knowing you are not alone at all 🤍 I am going to continue making videos, more fired up than ever! I am 100% rooting for you.

Sakura. Keep it strong. Think of it as a freedom you just been given. You got all your time in life back. Choose sth autonomy instead of this corp life. I went through this number of times. Yep. It sucks. I finally know how these stupid corps treating their employees. You are just lured into the fancy stuff they have been given but they never cared.

I think this newer generation feeling like they have to share everything on some social media platform is very strange. You will be looking for a while if you aren't a good engineer...that goes without saying.
@Sakurambo

that's totally valid 😂for me I thought I'd document this to comfort others who may be in the same position, as hundreds of thousands are in the same position. for older generations, sharing thoughts & personal experiences on the internet is a foreign concept I suppose, welcome to 2023 😁
