When I finally got braces last year it drastically changed how confident I felt about myself. I had this same surgery last year, except they cut the muscles on both of my eyes just to make sure it would be a success. INSTANTLY felt better after probably 5-6 years of a bad lazy eye. All my life it was weak, but got really bad after high school. In many ways, it ruined my college experience because I was so self conscious. I would sit in the back of class, squint my eyes all the time, wear sunglasses constantly, etc.... Had no confidence talking to girls, friends, professors, bosses. People don’t understand how much of a disconnect it creates. Always had headaches, couldn’t enjoy traveling because i would get dizzy or just couldn’t focus on sights. I hate my nose too, but the eye surgery was a NEED. I couldn’t live my life without this surgery, at least the life I wanted to live. Had it not been for the severity of the situation, I probably wouldn’t have gotten surgery as it really freaked me out. It ended up being the best decision I ever made. Thanks for sharing your story man.

Honest to God, I never noticed your eye (which is actually pretty weird for me not to) but i know a couple people with lazy eye. My friend's was crossed in and she was so outgoing and didn't seem to mind it at all, even joked about it. My sister's bf's eye turns outward and he's suuper self conscious. But the thing about his is that when he wears contacts, it straightens out and isn't noticable. But he's still really self conscious and won't look us in the eye or really even speak much. I was actually the one who figured out that something must've been wrong with his eyes since none of us actually knew about it. I think that it's a really interesting condition. I have it too, but my eye appears normal and is just a big blob of peripheral vision. But thank you for talking about your experience with it. I'm really fascinated by it and I'm glad the surgery helped. (Red eye also looked SUPER badass)

I've struggled with a lot of the same issues that you talked about, along with constant pain and migraines due to eye/muscle strain. The idea of fixing it with surgery has always scared me, but it would really change my life in the same ways that you talked about. I would love to have my eye related anxieties to be lifted. I'm going to look into the surgery more. ❤️ Edit: I've been reading scientific studies on the efficacy of strabismus surgery and it seems like a no-brainer and something I should really consider doing

I have the same "problem" w lazy eye. Right eye is dominant, left eye "floats" to the left when focusing, looking at screens, into mirrors, and talking to people, ESPECIALLY when sleep deprived. People call me out when I'm talking to them asking "what are you looking at?" or even, "I thought you were looking beyond me to establish dominance" like WHAT. I'm not insecure about it, but like you said, I hate that it creates a barrier in human interaction. I have ptosis in both my eyes... ptosis is a genetically passed down thing my grandfather has it. basically it’s where my eye lids muscles aren’t strong or they are weaker which cause my eyes to be droopy but my right eye is droopier then the other so it makes it look as if my right eye is normal. I’m looking to get a second surgery to try and fix my eye more my first surgery was when I was 2 years old. But all my life I have received comments on it like “what’s wrong with your eye” “why is it lower” “you have a lazy eye?” Etc there has been times where I have gotten rude comments but I’m looking to get another surgery because I don’t feel confident or happy because I feel like I need to hide it even though it’s not that bad. I used to have a very lazy eye ever since I was a kid. I always got teased, it made me very depressed and insecure about my self, I was always hiding my eye behind my hair. Had surgery a few years ago, my eye is still not completely centered but I can’t explain how much it boosts your confidence. I couldn’t even take pictures of myself before, I don’t like doing it now anyways lol. But the thing about the redness is true, it lasts for a while. I still have a bit of redness near my tear duct that I don’t think it’ll ever go away. It’s nice to see people talking about this, that aren’t making fun of it.

I’m happy for you Jed! Confidence in oneself is important and difficult and one of my best friends has a crappy eye (it was lazy and then it got damaged and now she’s like 75% blind out of it) and I know she’s self conscious about it, so much so that she covers it with her bangs most of the time. But I am so glad you mentioned the perception of oneself too! Sometimes we just need to learn to love our little flaws, and other times a small fix can help with that greatly :)

Haha of course your dog almost licked your surgery eye! Thats how huskies are, they're the best. You're somehow even more fantastic. I would do anything for you. Seriously though

Ok so I'm glad I stuck around until the very very end because for a sec I thought I was never going to get an explanation for why people were saying nigh/nye/ni-chair

I have a lazy eye too and I've grown to like it, only thing is that I get really bad headaches and images tend to superpose which makes eye contact and reading quite uncomfortable... (hope my English is not too bad)

Wow, this. I kinda sorta have that same situation, my eyes look straight most the time but I can't directly look at a camera to save my life and it's called out sometimes so much that it embarrasses me, again doesn't always happen. I just don't know how much the surgery would be to even fix this, but it doesn't happen enough to warrant surgery for me.

Can't you fix it without surgery? Growing up Louis had an eye patch to fix his lazy eye. I'm not sure if the lazy one was under the eye patch or the uncovered eye but it still worked

Lucas Fernandez I’m not sure. They never tried that with me as a kid. Mine might’ve been too crooked to be fixed that way.

I seriously never noticed it until you mentioned the surgery so I don’t think it was super noticeable. Or I’m blind.

do you have diolopia? double vision? Which eye are you looking with? waiting for your reply..

I only get double vision when I hold something close to my face. My right eye is my main eye. I could wear an eyepatch on my left eye and it wouldn’t affect my vision all that much. But if I put an eyepatch on my right eye, I’d just be staring at the back of an eyepatch all day 😂 it takes physical effort to focus out of my left eye
