Obviously the essays are pretty cool, they let you go into some very specific subjects with lot of depth and I enjoy them a lot. Unplanned ad lib work like this can be very convenient for the creator (as you mentioned, it lets you talk about stuff you wanna share without requiring nearly as much planning & effort), and it is not necessarily worse for consumers (me, the public). They can be pretty chill videos that let us get a bit more familiar with what the creator we're dealing with is like. That being said, I (personally) find there needs to be special care in the dosing. This here video was a breath of fresh air, but another one just like it tomorrow would probably not get me to feel the same things. I also think there is a much higher risk with commentary-esque videos to end up with a fairly low information density, some creators tend to get a lot of repetition and/or dead sequences. You seem to have lived it a little for this video, but recording 1h of content, even if laid-back, only to cut through 50 minutes of it because you're not satisfied with the rhythm, delivery or information density, can probably get pretty frustrating. Even moreso when you end up having to cut parts where you are sharing something you feel strongly about, but it just didn't end up right. Take this with some salt (I'm no professional content creator) but if you decide to go for more improvised videos my recommendation would be to: 1. Still prepare a draft plan. Once you know you want to talk about something, you can spend the next couple days adding to a dot-list of stuff you want to address. Then take couple minutes before recording to order it all in a fashion that makes sense to you. That takes some work but almost none, and avoids the frustration of realising post-recording you forgot to touch on a point you cared about. 2. Don't be afraid to lump multiple things together. There might be times where you want to talk about how great [something] is but the aforementioned doted list just doesn't seem to grow. That doesn't mean you can't talk about it, but probably you can address it in a video where you also touch other subjects more or less related. Basically, on the basis you are doing (1), you should try to get [some amount of points to talk about] before jumping to recording, which help control information density, video length, etc. That is, of course, with the exception of stuff like this video where it's perfectly fine to go as you did and just dump whatever comes to mind. Anywae, thx for being out there and good luck with stuff. PS: even if you start making more faster-to-make videos, plz don't address too many mangas too quickly or I won't be able to keep up with all the recommendations. :'D
