Also Boeing is contracted by the government (depending on where you work). Avoid applying for US government jobs and focus on private companies, especially the successful startups in tech. Government jobs are extremely strict on ABET accredited Engineering degrees and being a US citizen.

Any tips on the interviewing process?
@sbergman0894
2 жыл бұрын
@@jerry11136 I think everything just happened to align correctly. I didn’t really prepare for it although I had about 20 interviews prior with other employers. I only had one Boeing interview. I thought it went okay maybe 7/10 in my opinion. I kinda winged it but was genuine and honest in my answers. They asked me to answer the questions using a STAR method. I had a rough idea of that method but told them in advance I wasn’t that familiar with it. Basically just frame your responses to their questions in something that is real to you and expresses something you’ve done that you’re proud of and answers that particular question. I had just one interview over zoom or Teams (don’t remember) with the hiring manager and I think someone from hr (don’t remember) They had one question on diversity and how I used it to make something better. I didn’t have an example but instead I listed a time when I was in charge of a project and didn’t use it and listed how the project was still technically a success but I described how it could have been better.

I've worked there for 15 years..... constantly trying to move to different jobs..... constantly rejected. 95% of the time they have chosen the person before the interviews occur. Most hiring managers know nothing about what they are assigned to manage. It's the friends brothers and uncles club and we're not invited. You can see by the way that they have dealt with the issues on 787, 737 max, 777x. Management all the way to the top cannot manage a product line. Don't feel bad when you're rejected by idiots and morons. Don't give up on your own goals.

Not gonna lie, I feel like the only thing that put me over the edge as an engineering hire at Lockheed was the fact that I was prior military as in fresh out within 8 months at that time. Sadly the main issue I came across is that many industries don’t have many openings for Chem E’s. I ended up going back to school for nursing and that well doesn’t run dry, I haven’t had any employment issues since and the pay is so much better. Same stress though, maybe more 😕, then covid came and it’s been hell in the ICU. I still like to check up on the industry every once in awhile to see what young engineers are doing but sadly I’ll never return to the industry unless I can do pharmaceutical r&d, which will never happen, those positions are extremely niche and locked down on the biochem/tech side.

What’s interesting is that you get a glimpse of the corporate culture by just speaking to the interviewers. Also you might consider a rejection as a blessing in disguise (sometimes) because you don’t know if a bigger opportunity will pop out whether it’s a startup or a giant conglomerate.

I'm a retired EE. You did nothing wrong. Boeing is not a great company. I know people there. They did you a favor. Go look at the history of Boeing and cost cutting. Military contractors not very good employers but new grads know little. Could be your too pretty for the nerds and they assume = stupid or it reminds them of all the girls that rejected them. Not uncommon to see 100 resumes per job. My last job ... entire section sacked except two new grads. They were cheap. Contract got dropped. I have seen some really bad people in charge. It's a very male dominated field and you seem like a normal smart young lady. Big thumbs up for getting Engineering degree. Just continue to invest in yourself and read a lot and become good at what you do. If you got a degree then you had to pass the test and do the job like everybody else. This extreme interview process is here because of the over supply of Engineers. You and others are in a difficult position because of all the outsourcing compared to 1980. I remember EEs with a 2.0 GPA getting offers back then with 1 interview due to short supply.

I know what it feels like to get rejected from an interview, I got my first phone interview and went well at SpaceX for inventory specialist and into my second round face to face interview only last 20-25 minutes after that I was not afforded the opportunity to move next to another interview by another requiérete but gave other people interview throughout the day except me. Later that day, I did my research on SpaceX, how to land a job at SpaceX required hardcore questions and what the company was looking for. As a veteran, I have that discipline and sense of positive character and drive and motivation and confidence. That they didn’t move me to the next round. SpaceX only looks for people who are really smart who have bachelors degree and don’t have any kids. This is just let’s me know that the company would only hire me if I fully commit to them and I one else. But not everyone makes it to the second round.

Hello, Senior Engineer here with 10 years aerospace experience. Keep in mind, many times, you will not be selected even if you do everything right and work hard. I graduated salutatorian, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, numerous certifications and a highly decorated U.S. Marine veteran. None of that matters in the real world. Trust me, you will attract haters. Many times you will be rejected because of an internal employee applying, promote within concept. I’ve been blessed and landed employment on first attempt. There’s no such thing as failure, but there are challenges. Never give up, stay aggressive and completion will crumble. Stay strong!

This was interesting. In my country the big companies are the mining companies, they don't do recruitment fairs.You have to wait for them to advertise positions which most likely won't have an entry level post. Graduates end up working for small firms or start their own businesses.

The best advice I give everyone who asks me hownI landed an (IT) position at Boeing straight after graduation, is that you really do not need to focus on having an answer prepared for all the questions they might ask you... There's no way to predict what they are going to ask you and when it comes to tehnical questions, they only ask questions you should already know the answers to anyway, otherwise your probably not ready (either through education or experience) for the position you are interviewing for.... What I mean by this is most employers don't ask super technical question.... They realize NOONE will ever be 100% knowledgeable and ready for a new job.... There willmALWAYS be training involved.... So they tend to ask questions that help them get to know you as a person, and more importantly, as a TEAM MEMBER better.... This way they know you are trainable, you can work AND socialize with other colleagues (NO ONE wants to hire awkward people... It doesn't make for a good work environment). I was a mediocre student at best.... But I was one of a handful that received an offer at Boeing, over at least 15-20 MUCH more talented students from my class, simply for this reason...

My motivation to get out of the United States just skyrocketed! I will never be able to find the hiring manager that will think I should be hired unless I can emigrate to a country where they are seeking candidates who can be engineers, not endless talkers. I will never express anything like "thanks" to the shipload of employers that keep rejecting me. Over last few decades I have been rejected at least several thousand times from potential employers because I cannot talk. Now ... let's see how I fare when the interview is conducted in Russian.

quick question do you work for Garmin???? LOL I am interviewing for their Flight operations engineer position. Im on round 3 of the interview and my final interview is on this coming tuesday. The last interview I thought I was going to be denied but sure enough I am now interviewing with one of the same guys I already have but his boss is joining in on the interview with me and im super nervous. The last interview I was asked on my technical writing skills with regards to aircraft systems, manuals etc... I dont know how much they expect me to have insider knowledge on specifics because all of it is non disclosure type stuff. Hell this company is so under wraps *they fall under garmin but operate separately* that I cant even find much on their damn operation. My question is how much lee way do they give on a scenario where there just isnt much out there. Its irking me to no end not being able to look up what I want a prepare like I want- Sorry for the book..

It is a mistake to take job rejections too personally. Implement production feedback, and reject the unproductive stuff just as you do on the job every day. Rejection can happen for something as silly as the Hiring Manager not liking your name, makeup, or hair dye. (People are that petty sometimes.) From the sounds of it, the more interesting work is at the T1 suppliers anyways. They contract out a lot of interesting work. I'd consider it a gift from God that you don't work there.
