I just took out most of my clothes that were hanging in my closet and I’ve never felt so good. My closet was so empty I was actually able to stand inside it and put my shoes on. I am going to bless someone with the clothes that I decided I don’t want anymore. 90% of them I just have been holding onto and never wearing them. Getting ready for church the other day was so simple because I have 5 outfits I saved out on one side so I just pick one and WAHLAAA!!!!! I counted and I have 50 items but that’s not including bras, panties, swimsuits and it’s never felt so good. I’m getting rid of furniture now. Been reading The Minimalist by Joshua Becker and it’s helped. I ask myself when I look at a piece of furniture “what do I think about or how does it make me feel when I look at that?” And a few pieces all I see is DUST something I have to clean. I have small children and I am loving this simple slow living. I’ll stop there because I can go on and on heehee. Have a blessed day!!!!!

We just finished having our children and I am trying to rebuild my wardrobe to suit my style. Your encouragement to not only embrace whatever style you are drawn too but to also realize we all go through different phases was helpful and refreshing! I also noticed that the "10 items" isn't exactly literally 10 items just less. Less is so very beautiful.

My capsule wardrobes are always full of color ❤ The piece I’ve owned the longest and worn the most is a Jersey dress that is a wild blend of green and huge flowers of red, yellow, and more. So many colors and yet they are all colors I like to wear so it actually matches everything I own!

For summer items i would not have a problem to make a 10 item wardrobe. But those items that you show: i could wear them max 30 days a year in Belgium... This wardrobe is beautiful because withbevery item, you have a new look. But in Belgium where I live, i have to wear one or two sweaters almost every day on top of the outfit. And if you only own like 2 sweaters, you look the same every day. So i have like 7 sweaters... And i have long sleeve t-shirts to wear underneath. And then you also need pants. In the wardrobe that you show, you are Often completely dressed with only one item. That's completely undoable in winter in Belgium. Also: the rotating system of seasons is not very helpful here because sometimes we have 4 seasons in one day. It can start being 3 degrees Celcius and sunny, two hours later 23 degrees Celcius and one hour later back to 15 and icecold rain... So i would like to have some inspiration for colder climates as i find this very difficult. The people i see with capsule wardrobes in colder areas own like only 2 sweaters but that to me is depressing as I wear one every day from september till june!

I have the same problem living in the UK! I hate the cold months as I feel I can’t change up how I look too often without needing a ton of clothes which defeats the object of minimalism
@lizwright8613

I don't think 7 sweaters sounds excessive, given that your sweater is visually your shirt most days of the year. It seems like simplifying to a specific number is mostly useful for those of us trapped in a consumerist culture or mindset. I don't know how it is in Belgium, but here in the US the way many people stockpile and run through perfectly good clothes is...intense.

I’ve lived with chronic illness for over five years and the majority of what i wear is dumpy sweatpants and sweatshirts, which make me feel so, well, homely. You help me realize that you can look cute, but still cozy, and this makes me mentally feel so much better. And it’s such a good reminder that we can have a few of our favorite pricier pieces, rather than loads of cheap stuff that doesn’t last and that we don’t really like. ❤

I just discovered what I have been, my entire life, starting as a baby, and graduating through every stage of my life so far. Watching your videos absolutely made me positive about who I have always been, but, I really never knew there was a word or life choice for it…. Minimalism. It all makes sense to me now. When I was tiny, I used to get overwhelmed with stuff, things, toys, sounds. My “safe” and cozy place was always my bedroom. I only kept a few toys in it, a desk with art supplies, but neatly stacked, clothes that made me happy, and my favorite books. I spent so many hours in my room, starting around five years on, and, it was not because I was antisocial. I LOVED being around my family and friends, but, my sensitivities to my surroundings always got in the way. If I got a new toy, I would always give a toy away. This was not my parents idea, and, sometimes, they even felt sad I was giving away my things, but, it never made me sad at all. This was the same with clothing. I wore my things, of which I only had a few, until they fell apart. If I was gifted something, and it just was not me, I would ask my parents if I could give it to my cousins, or, donate it. As I got older, had my own house, started having babies, and babies, and more babies, haha, I became even more aware of just how much stuff was around. I sometimes would go on a cleaning kick, trying desperately to not feel overwhelmed by my surroundings. It was harder keeping things organized or minimal, when most of the things around me were not mine. Only when we sold EVERYTHING to move to an island, did I realize how happy I was. I finally felt free. Then, we moved back, and we started accumulating it all again. Really, until watching these videos, I never understood why I felt this way. I always kept my feelings quiet, as, what kind of nut complains about having too much, but, now I realize I am not a nut, just a minimalist. What a wonderful feeling that is! Thank you for your insight, as, it makes me know who I am now!

After quitting social media I started seeking out a few KZitem channels that were in line with my values and encouraged/ inspired me. Yours has been my favorite I’ve found! Especially after watching your couch makeover video…I recently made a floor couch with a body pillow as the back for it and I had used the same linen cover from the same brand on etsy. I took that as a huge sign to keep watching your stuff😊. I watch a video or two in the evening as I find them super calming and motivating to me to keep living a more minimalist life that allows me to live my best life. Super excited to see you had just posted this one as I’m preparing to massively downsize my closet (the one area I’m not so minimalist in) Love the summer wardrobe!

I would be curious to know how much you spend on clothes for yourself each year. Does owning this few clothes actually save you money? I’m also seeing different clothes in each clothing video. I’m all for manageable wardrobes, I’ve been working to downsize mine as well, but if you’re buying a whole new set each season, that seems expensive just to own less. I’m still trying to figure out how being this extreme would make sense financially even though I love the idea of it.

i love to buy organic clothes, since i know that especially cotton is heavily sprayed/poisoned - you think it's all natural but than it's really not healthy to wear it on your skin. linen (flax) grows on poor soil and is not that much sprayed - maybe that's why it feels so good on your skin. i'm not minimalist, i'm a farmer and need a lot of clothes to change. we also have four seasons (with temperatures from -20 to +40 deg. celsius) - but i love to buy quality clothes that's sustainable. love your content, thanks for the inspiration!

You’ve inspired me in so many ways. Keep up the great work you are doing. 🎉🌈💖 PS - I started doing the 30 day minimalist challenge (did it in four days instead of taking a whole month to declutter). I was so inspired I kept going and did another 30 day challenge, but it took a week to pull together a months worth of things. Well I thought why stop there, so a couple of days ago I started round 3, doing another 30 day challenge. At this point I’ve released over a thousand things in less than a month. So freeing! 🎉 What spurred me on to do this was my father passed away in February. His passing, less than two years after my mom’s passing, left me bereft with grief, wondering who am I now without my parents. I was also one of their caregivers the last 10 (mom) and 12 (dad) years of their lives. And where do I go from here? Being untethered is a strange feeling. All I know for sure right now is that I want to move forward with less things to care for, and that what I do have is worth my valuable time to care for. We all deserve the best in life, but having the best doesn’t mean we have to own everything. I love the open spaces in my rooms and on my walls. I own less than 10 pictures/prints on my walls because I prefer the empty space between. I can breathe in the empty spaces as I watch the light patterns shifting throughout the day. 😉❤️

Hey madi! I love your content and thanks for being yourself in a world that is constantly trying to tell us otherwise. Heads up on lullaby club, I purchased something from there based on your rec and I ended up returning it as it didn’t fit, and I also saw it’s made in China which I try to avoid. . Folks should know that you have to pay shipping to Australia to return something. For me this was 40 bucks. So not exactly a sustainable place to shop- made in china, shipped to Australia, sent to US, returned to Australia… and ended up costing me 40 dollars for the whole experience. 😂

I called myself curated. I do have to have work clothes but I curate each aspect of my life, work and then home/artist. I have about 18 pieces for work and 30 pieces for home. I do hike, do yoga, help foster animals and travel a bit, so I like a little variety, Most of the time, at home, I am in knee length flowy dress. For winter, I throw my leggings underneath and boots. It's my thing. I left all black behind years ago and I have pinks, purple, yellow, orange- but in all desert washed out hues. I love it!

I'm a floral & colorful dress lover and gingham fan like you're wearing. I love Anthropologie. I have ONE dress (which is black and sleek and long) from there that I wear to funerals and weddings. I have a top from them too. I used to always dream about being able to own clothes from there too, but they are so expensive, so it took forever before I finally bought from them. I am a former vintage fashion blogger (most I resold or people would send to me for photos). I don't own many clothes, but when I buy, I buy items that will last a long time and that are ethically made/sourced/fair trade/b-corp. I love being a woman. Linen is soooo good for sure. I like bamboo and hemp clothes too. You are not a potato, nor ever looked like one!!!!! I laughed at the "Careless Whisper" song you had play when you said your husband likes the one top. Underwear is my one way that I am probably not much of a minimalist (although I still fit all my clothes in a drawer, which includes my panties and bras). I get all of my bras/panties from Adore Me (a B-corp).

Since watching your 10 item wardrobe videos I have also gone down to 10 items. For me though I have a prefect 10 in winter and summer, but my spring and fall are 15 items because I have around 5 pieces that crossover from winter or summer. 😊

Was that the bathing suit or bra you were wearing with that one top? It was so cute and I would love to wear bras that feel more like little crop tops so they can show under other shirts.

I absolutely LOVE the colors of your clothes! Soft colors and lots of green ❤ and wide dresses. They’re perfect 👏🏻 I actually started sewing, so I can have what I like and take out what I dont like from my closet.

Hi! I am a minimalist who also likes color and feminity. Though, I also love love black (I used to dress in what is called Elegant Goth in Highschool). So, I have my tye dye T-shirt next to my black shirts.

Dear Madisun, I love how your Man in the studio dress looks on you. I even purchased it myself because it looks so pretty on you. It"s very flattering in my opinion. But of course you have to feel good in it. 😊 Enjoy Italy! ❤

I've been trying to reduce my wardrobe, I don't have a ton of clothes compared to the average American but still way more than I need. I'm choosing to take it slow and if I feel overwhelmed I walk away from it and start again when I feel encouraged to, like after watching one of your videos! I'm also becoming much more intentional about the clothes I buy and I'm trying to only buy cotton and linen clothing to replace some of my polyester clothes.

Love this! My minimalist wardrobe is very similar. I pretty much only have fun flowy dresses because that’s what I like and there is lots of color. Very empowering to be feminine and colorful. ❤

Another great video. The funny thing is, I am usually a wear all black minimlaist because Its it makes me feel comfortable, but as I have gotten older and accepted my beachy upbringing and lifestyle, and I looking for lighter/more natural colours and fabrics. It also helps that I am a Waldorf education fan too LOL

Definitely started working on smaller wardrobe. We live in Florida and it's usually hot so I've been working on more natural fabrics too. Definitely makes things easier. I get caught up in feeling bad about not having stylish "fast fashion" clothes. I'm realizing though that I just like the more relaxed comfortable wardrobe. 🩳 👕

Trying to be a minimalist with my closet but I think I’m more of a maximalist when it comes to fashion🙈 I have thrifted everything my entire life but I still live in excess. I’m about to move with my family to a cabin in the woods and I needa downsize! Love Madame Chic btw🤌🏼

Very cool video, thanks for the inspiration and motivation. In the Corona time, when all the stores were closed, I sold a lot of my clothes online. I made over 2000€ with it. I was addicted to shopping. Bought then my dream bag from Louis Vuitton. Sold it again after a year and bought diamond stud earrings. Now a new round of decluttering is coming up. Would like to buy me another diamond pendant. I live in Germany and need clothes for three seasons and still office clothes. I will now apply the 10 piece wardrobe for the summer, let's see if it works :)

What about 4 seasons? That would make it tough. I do buy things to wear as 'layered' look which helps to minimize my wardrobe. I, literally, live in sweat suits (not sloppy-styled) but matching as a black sweat top that is bought and washed at same time so colors stay matching as top/bottoms. You can wear it or as one nighttime/relaxing outfit, etc etc Sweats (there are lighter weight fabrics & heavier fabrics so buy according to the seasons u r going to need/use.

I was so ready to try it. Less laundry. Only my favorite pieces. Then South Carolina weather happened. In one day there was a 40 degree weather change. Literally from 80 to 40. So I’m keeping more options but using the same criteria I would for 10 items.
