That's right! I actually got stuck in an elevator for the FIRST time! And it was at school during class, too! (It also happened during a final, but I had finished with my final at the time, so I was in the elevator working on a project for that class.) I got stuck between 8:15 and 8:25 AM.
Notice how I didn't even TOUCH the alarm button or open the phone box the entire time...
Backstory:
This elevator has a glitch where the "Please Exit When Doors Open" light randomly comes on, and it basically causes the elevator to recall to the fire floor, (which is "C") but it isn't actually in fire service because none of the elevator's smoke detectors were triggered and nobody turned on fire service. This causes the elevator to glitch out.
I'm not sure how often this glitch happens, but this certainly isn't the first time this glitch has happened. I've heard that other people have gotten stuck in this elevator, so this makes me think that this glitch is the culprit.
So here's the entire story of what actually happened:
I had finished with my final in my Live-Film Video Production class, so I went to the elevator to film for a video project, which obviously includes the elevator. (As always.)
I was in the elevator on the second floor of building A, which is labeled "1" in the elevator, and I was going to the bottom floor, which is labeled "G" in the elevator. This elevator normally parks on the bottom floor after 45 seconds of not being used, so I wanted to basically reset the parking timer so I could get ready to film a clip for my video project.
I pressed "G", and the elevator went down. Once it got to the floor, the door didn't open and it immediately started going up at leveling speed, so I waited to see what would happen. At first, I thought it had hit the final limit switch at the bottom and it was just re-leveling, but it turns out that wasn't the case. The elevator eventually stopped at the next floor above, which is the main floor of the school, and is labeled "C". The door opened, but it wasn't actually the correct door, so the door restrictor prevented it from opening, and the door eventually closed because it couldn't open.
I eventually noticed that the light that says "Please Exit When Doors Open" was lit, (which it definitely wasn't supposed to be lit) and the indicator didn't actually change when it was going up at leveling speed, so it thought it was at the bottom floor when it actually wasn't. (That's why the incorrect door tried to open.) I actually thought that someone had turned on fire service for some reason and it caused the elevator to get confused, until I realized that the glitch was happening again.
I eventually tried pressing the button for the 1st floor, which is the 2nd floor of building A, but it just stayed lit and nothing happened. I then tried pressing the button for the main floor, (C) but again, it just stayed lit and nothing happened.
I though about trying the stop switch and canceling the calls using independent service, but I didn't want it to glitch out even more.
I then started recording this video, and after I finished recording this video, I called someone in the attendance office and they told the custodians. The custodians eventually turned off the power to the elevator and turned it back on, but that didn't work. They didn't turn it off for long enough, so I told them to do it again, but leave it off for a bit longer. Surprisingly, the elevator remembered the calls even after the power was turned off, and it eventually started going down at leveling speed. It then went back up to the main floor and opened.
The custodians, assistant principal, the school police officer, and the school nurse were waiting outside. I explained to the custodians what happened, and they actually told me to ride it again to make sure it works. So I gladly rode the elevator again, and it worked perfectly fine. (Well, it will work "perfectly fine" until the glitch happens again, but who knows when that'll be...)
I then went back to my class and told my teacher that I got stuck in the elevator. My teacher didn't really care. It wasn't a big deal.
So what actually caused the elevator to get stuck?
As mentioned at the top of this description, the "Please Exit When Doors Open" glitch is what actually caused me to get stuck. I guess I was just lucky enough for it to actually happen while I was just normally riding the elevator.
Why didn't I use the phone in the elevator?
I didn't use the phone in the elevator because I didn't have a reason to, and it would've been more of a hassle. (Ex. the fire department having to get me out when someone at the school could easily just turn off the power for a little bit then turn it back on.) As already mentioned, this isn't the first time this glitch has happened, so all they had to do to fix the elevator was turn off the power for a little bit then turn it back on.
Apologies about the quality, as this video was filmed using my Samsung Galaxy A21.
