Hi Ziggy and thanks for bravely sharing this sad tale 😢 One thing you don't know about me is that I have a passion project outside of work. I am the bloodstock agent for our local racing stable. Horse racing is an emotional roller coaster. We welcome beautiful horses. They are loved and cared for but the circle of life continues and eventually we have to say goodbye. We had a great champion in the yard who won at the highest level at Aintree. Ashleigh Brook was his name. Last year we had to finally say goodbye at 25 years old. In his later life he was mentor to a young horse, Boris. Yesterday I watched young Boris on the gallops. It was a magnificent sight. The circle of life continues and with it comes joy and sadness. We'll talk more on our Brean Down adventure ❤

You have every right to feel tearful. I'm not much of a cryer either, but even I almost shed a tear hearing this. You both have put in so much time, effort and money into her, your heart and soul, some might say. I'm so sorry it's come to this. 😢 I hope you end up with the best camper van after all this. You deserve it! Big hugs ❤ Peej

Hi - sorry to here the sad news but unfortunately campervans are bottomless money pits- I feel exactly the same about my Walter so I feel for you I truly do. My Walter is my pride and joy but he's 30 yrs old but the best thing I've ever owned- t4s are cool and an ideal size for you or both of you. I'm biased 😆 but I'd go for that as parts are readily available new or 2nd hand everywhere. I'm in a very similar predicament but I'm the one who's terminal with unknown certainties so again I feel for you both. Keep smiling 😃 a d always look in the bright side to whatever you get given hun. Good luck and hopefully meet you one day if your ever in wales again give us a shout. Best wishes always Jason and Tracy. ❤

I hope you at least get a refund on the unused months of tax. I'm sure there would have been a solution to the caliper problem such as getting the old ones reconditioned. I do all my own repairs so I don't have much dealings with mechanics but a lot of them are only interested in easy options.

Your crazy to scrap that van. get it fixed you can source the parts, go to a different garage.

@sameshitagain6735 you literally cannot source these parts. I hope you don't think that some random person told us the parts are unavailable and we just went 'Uhm... OK." 😁 We put a huge amount of effort into sourcing parts. We even contacted Nissan Japan The parts are no longer made. There's a slim chance that you could get second hand parts from some sketchy dealer in India, but we personally weren't willing to risk it. The major problem was the seals. Even if we found the parts, the seals are no longer made and no other van has matching seals. ♥️♥️♥️

I have a 1996 Toyota camper van (import) that I have had for 19 years. I have no problem sorting parts. Even the genuine Toyota parts are available here and there, not that much more in price ive... you have to do the work online and search for YOURSELF.....Whoever buys that van is going to fix it at your expense and lazzerness.

At the very last resort, You can get all the parts from Japan's breakers, imported. You need to do more searching, if the van is not rusted out then fix it.

@sameshitagain6735 the calipers alone would have between £800 and £1000... each. Because they are rare as rocking horse poop. I'm not sure which part of my video gave the impression that we were loaded but we're relatively poor. Hence having to get an old campervan in the first place. The seals for the calipers and transmission are not made any more. The best plan, for us, would have been to keep Poppy on the drive and use her for occasional guests and somewhere for this menopausal old hag to sleep in the summer. However, the Hobbit wasn't having any of it. Also, it's a moot point as she's gone ♥️

No one scraps a vehicle for brakes they're a service item, callipers are rebuilt. You don't scrap a working van because you don't want to tax it, this story makes no sense.
@carnivorecampers
2 күн бұрын
Then, you haven't understood the video. The parts were needed are no longer made. None of the parts that go with the parts were needed are made any more. We could get second hand calipers... from India. Would you risk that? The seals needed for the transmission leak to be fixed and the calipers ARE NO LONGER MADE. Then there was the undetermined wait. Absolutely zero idea of when or if we could get them. You must have missed the part where I said that my husband doesn't have long to live. We have no time to be waiting around on a mere hope that the parts could be found. I realise that you don't know us, but we are not stupid people. We explored every avenue. The van could not be saved.

@@carnivorecampers You missed the point of my reply, calipers are rebuilt they don't need to be new, obsolete parts get repaired, I've been in the motor trade for 50 years I'm telling you what happens it's not an opinion it's reality. If it was truly impossible to repair them you fit different calipers from a different vehicle nobody scraps a vehicle for brakes (unless the vehicle is worthless). I made no reference to time or anything else I just commented on brakes being NO LONGER MADE, the tax part makes no sense.
@carnivorecampers

@dubsydubs5234 the tax part made no sense to me either. As you can tell by my reaction to the suggestion on the video. I would have happily kept it on the drive as a spare room, at least. We were emailing Nissan Japan and they told us that no other van they made had calipers that would be interchangeable with this model. We spoke to calipers refurbished, they said if the seals were no longer available, then they could not refurbish the calipers. Added to that, the transmission leak and those seals also not being available was the reason for scrapping the van. Congratulations, you are a vehicular expert and would have the know-how, the time, the money, and the space to keep it. We have none of those.

@@carnivorecampers You posted on a public forum I replied as a viewer with my view as a mechanic, if you don't like the comments it's probably best to not tell everyone that way you can live with your own experience as the only reality especially if hearing a view from someone in the trade offends you. I didn't hunt you down to offend you I just make a comment in a video youtube recommended. I'll not comment on the trans seals as that will also upset you so I shall keep my expertise to myself. Good luck.
