I have lived in the Pattaya area for the last 4 years. Having met my current girlfriend here in my first week. Would never have thought I would be here this long. Living in Pattaya is entirely different to having a holiday here! It is actually a great place to live long term. I never go to bars, my health is much better. Now I’am 71 keeping fit is my main occupation and there’s lots of options for playing sports and all the others points you made 😊

If you focus on fitness and self-development, it's a great place to live.

Pattaya's "redlight" bar scene is really shrinking and dying year after year, if u compare it to its hay-days early 1990 ties to middle 2000 and the city is pretty BIG . Living away from the now FEW streets with bars is easy and convenient and cheap if u compare it to phuket hua hin or even Bangkok. the 10 baht bus (song thaew) takes u most places and condos/hotels away from the center part is dirt cheap Jomtien /na kleua / Phratamnak Hill or even out in Thepprasit and the PROVINCE chon buri is pretty big to and close to Bangkok

Just came across your channel, very good description pros & cons , I’m in the exact same situation myself, I don’t like Pattaya but when you’re outside it you can live a completely different lifestyle with all the benefits you pointed out, excellent excellent video 👍

Great video. I'm on my way, I was in country in March and looked at pool villas in Hua Hin. If the ferry from Hua Hin to Pattaya still ran I would pick Hua Hin, I have decided Jomtien is a better choice. I can choose to go to the bars and nightlife if I want and still live near the beach and quite most of the time.

You are younger than I am. My plan for moving to Pattaya is to live somewhere that I can walk almost everywhere, I'm getting to the point where I should not be driving much longer.

Thanks for making this video. We go back and forth about where to call home in Thailand. (This is coming from a Thai-American with some formative years in Thailand before immigrating to the US.) A lot of what you say resonated with our thought process. It’s good to hear another person’s experience with “boots on the ground”. BTW good pronunciation of Pattaya. I can help you out with another word’s pronunciation. The word “koh” as in Koh Chang is prounced with a “g”, and not a “k”.

Thanks for the help on Koh 👏 I think more than anything, it’s important for people to come and see more to it than just central Pattaya. I still hate it down there 😂

Wow! Im so glad i found your channel. I am 47 now looking to retire in Thailand when im 50. I agree being away from tourist spots but close enough to visit is the right way to go. Do you know if they have houses for rent with yard big enough to have vegetable garden? I know probably a silly question but i have not seen anything like that online.

I would highly suggest looking just south in Rayong. 30 minutes to Jomtien and lots more houses with yards and land. Plus, they are about 30% cheaper and very close to beautiful beaches.

If you don't mind what is the rent for your house on a monthly basis? Also what are your total monthly cost to live in Jomtien? Water, electricity, internet, food and entertainment? Just looking for a realistic monthly expense to see if it can be done by myself.

Hi John. I’ve actually done two separate videos. One on what $1500 a month looks like living here and then what $5000 a month is like living here. Our house is 35K baht a month and we use a ton of AC in big home plus a pool. Our electric is 9000 baht a month. Check out the videos for a breakdown. Good luck and reach out if you have other questions.

Agree with you. I need the same as you. I need a city kind of life. Things to do. See. Can’t be living on an island. Too isolated. Don’t need to be near the beach too.

I'm getting my retirement visa in Jomtien because of the convenience of the Bus to BKK airport, but I visited Kata beach, Phuket and miss those waves too much. As much as I love how chill live is in Jomtien, I still hope I can go back to Kata beach waves.

When you are married, then usually the wifey doesn’t want to live too close to where all the bars are. That area of Pattaya is for single people. Mostly. Not happily married couples.
