Stop doing things you think you are SUPPOSED to do. Just play the game how you want to play it and progress when you think you are ready to. Grinding to the appropriate levels should just come naturally as you play.

U messed up when u started grinding. You should’ve just explored more. Radahan isn’t “next” u can go anywhere. Caves, four belfries, find a way up the lift through the cliffs. Or go down to siofra River underground. There’s so much u can do in the game without it feeling like grinding.

I’ve beaten this game twice and never had to grind. It’s made so you don’t have to. If you get stuck just go explore in another direction and you’ll naturally level up as you progress in other areas of the map.

It sounds like you're way over thinking it which I think is can cramping your enjoyment. However I'd also say this game may not be for you. If you're not into exploration, lore, and the open world well you don't like 90% of the game. From my point of view I don't like just getting in and getting out because I like games that are more intimate where you spend a long time exploring and understanding the world. I know people give crap for the dungeons and reused bosses, but if you pay attention most of the reused bosse have different move sets that differentiate them with the dungeons having different puzzles that can really mess with your head. But I'd also say you don't have to like something that's popular. I hate sports games, COD, Animal crossing, Fortnight, Apex Legends, etc. because they're not for me. I don't like Elden Ring because it's popular, but because I actually like it.

Ghost, bro, im not tryna be rude when I say this, but it sounds like your battling yourself more than the game itself 😅. You really sound like you are over thinking this game in order to try to enjoy it. As you said earlier "dark souls has a more steady pace", so with that beingg said you have to understand that Elden Ring has its own pace set by the player. If you dont enjoy the game thays fine, but your reasons from the video are sorta contradictory to what can be said about dark souls. With this being said, if you are open to being "fixed", heres my advice: start over and just play the game. I did this myself and i really see why people enjoy this game. Let the pure essence of discovery and curiosity guide you. Remember, this is Elden Ring not Dark Souls. Once you understand that, i think you could enjoy it @GhostRobo

Hey dude, damn..... it's been so long since I got a video recommendation from your channel. I cant even remember the last time I last your your videos even though I've been subscribed to you from Dark Souls days. Glad to see your are doing okay man. Now coming to the main topic, for me personally, Elden Ring was the best souls game FromSoft has ever created next to Dark souls 1. I was not good at souls, I have completed all of them (except Sekiro, though it not a souls game per say) but still for me the real enjoyment came from the discovery of new lore and sense of wonder when exploring new level of each souls game. What made elden ring so wonderful was that sense of wonder and discovery from other souls game but multiplied to a 100. The open world allowed me to explore every nook, level up organically and tackle places organically just as mush as other souls game did. When ever I found someplace where I was up against a wall I just explored someplace else, got stronger and came back to defeat the challenge better then before. YES, grinding is a thing but I never had to grind cause I was so busy exploring every cave, catacomb, dungeon that the difficult curve felt pretty natural to me to be honest. I can you can argue that exploration was kind of a grind but for me the exploration was the biggest hook for this game. So yeah. that just my opinion.

You have two problems. One is that you're trying to play the game "as intended", when the game is designed to give every player a unique experience. And the other, is that your caring about how other people beat the game. I think your first problem would apply to every open world rpg game. Open world games insight you to explore multiple options and create your own experience. And your second problem probably just derived from you trying to find a reason for disliking the game. The thing about elden ring is that, the game can be easy or difficult depending on how you play it. When i first played elden ring i refused to watch any content up until i was half way through the game and this allowed my experience to feel like all my actions were the "as intended" ones. Everytime i grind, i do it not because i have to, but because i want to. And I typically never had to grind because i would typically stumble into side missions or dungeons inbetween legacy dungeons. My advice to you would be to pick up Elden Ring again but this time try to role play a bit. Put yourself in your characters shoes as a Tarnished who just arrived at the lands between on his journey to become Elden Lord. You can even look up some builds to decide what kind of character you should make. I really hope you end up enjoying elden ring. The game is quite honestly a masterpiece and i feel like bad circumstances might have soured your taste for the game.

I wrote up a lengthy reply to this video, but then realized I was overcomplicating a very simple concept. The pathway through Elden Ring without overthinking whether or not you're overleveled/underleveled is this: Explore the world, find stuff, fight stuff, collect stuff. If it starts to feel too challenging for your personal liking, explore in a different direction, find stuff, fight stuff, collect stuff. Repeat. There is no part of the map you're NOT supposed to be in, and no boss you're NOT supposed to fight. The only gauge for whether or not you've stepped into an area/fight you're not ready for is whether or not it currently too challenging for your liking. That's the long and short of it. There are too many side quests, dungeons, mini bosses, etc in this game for you to ever feel like you need to stop and "grind".

I'm with you, I love the souls series but I despise this game. I was so excited for it, got it first day, even left my computer on overnight to let it download with my slow ass internet. Got home from work with a huge migraine, so bad I had to take a break to vomit just to play on the first day. (No, this event didn't affect me, I rather enjoyed the first few days) but as time went on I grew to resent this. It seems like the opposite in design philosophy to all the other games in the series. I genuinely was having no fun. After defeating Radahn in 1.0 with no summons, second try, (I would have won first try but he launched nigh unavidable nuclear jawbreakers at me, only reason I won the second time was because he didn't pull that bullshit move the second time) I didn't feel anything. Not happy, not mad, not satisfied. Just bored. I dropped it there. I recently began playing it a few weeks ago for the DLC and I thought my judgement was incorrect. Nope, the game gets even worse past Radahn. Grinding doesn't work either, you will always feel underlevelled. Unlike in Dark Souls where all you have to do is really get good, Elden Ring is all about NOT being allowed to play the way you want and finding the right cheese/overpowered weapon. I struggled against Mohg for a while until I found out you need a special mixed physik just to fight him with a decent chance. And then going through various spells of mine one made all the other spells I'd ever learned redundant as Maliketh's black blade melted him in an instance. The game really does feel like an old school MMO where the trick isn't getting better, it's getting some item or spell that makes it trivial. I don't think I've enjoyed a single boss fight in this game. Right off the bat from Margit hitting you with a light sword attack that even if you roll lasts so long it will hit you when you recover from the roll, to Godrick spamming wind from neutral any time he feels like thus making going for melee attacks a gamble, to idiotic ideas of what "difficulty" is like with Fire Giant and Malenia. Dark Souls was unfairly characterized as "haha hard game" but it was always fair but tough. Elden Ring isn't tough but it sure is unfair, both to you and the bosses.
@jonathanc874

That's the beauty of Elden Ring you can do whatever you want, whether that is don't use any summons and not level and embrace the challenge or go explore, level up, find new weapons, spells. I will also say as someone who would level but, not crazy over level, bosses and enemies are still super challenging because you can't just one hit every boss or tank every combo they throw at you. Leveling makes you hit harder or survive more attacks but, it doesn't make it trivial. Analyzing and worrying about how your actions may be going against the intention of how the game is supposed to be played is exactly the issue at hand and in a way hypocritical to the intention of the game. The intention simply is you can do whatever you want whether it is over level to make things more forgiving or make it extra challenging for yourself. Do you want it to feel like dark souls and challenging? Then don't grind for leveling up. Are you frustrated and feel like you can't do a single thing without getting one shot? Why not level up and upgrade your gear or health a little. I recommend not to worry about it and enjoy the amazing creation and what it has to offer at face value from the crazy bosses to the frustrating dungeons. I can promise you no amount of leveling (within reason since you could theoretically spend days leveling) will make the game feel easy. As a final thought I never played dark souls games before Elden Ring and was actually a year late to the party in fear that the challenge would frustrate me and prevent me from wanting to play, but in reality the challenge kept me playing and motivated me to level up and find new things to come up with new strategies to defeat bosses. Look at it as a sandbox to approach challenges in whatever way you desire :) Don't let other people's choices prevent you, who is not directly affected by them, from enjoying the game how you like it. It's not a competition we all just want to have fun and enjoy the game! I know people even with the ability to level who have quit the game because of the challenge so beating it is still impressive that you stuck through and experienced the game in its entirety. The challenge is a key aspect to the game but, it's not the sole reason to play. This is just my thoughts and in no way mean it to come off as negative towards you. I love your vids and have been watching since og Evolve days (rip) keep making great content!

I've beaten the game 3 and a half times so id like to think I can give some decent advice. There are some tips I think would be useful but I think ultimately we need more information. What's your playstyle?, how upgraded is your weapon?, what items do you have?, etc. These are ways of becoming more powerful without grinding an artificial level. Something to consider is that the game gets easier later in the game and less grindy because you have more tools to use to your advantage and your build becomes more complete. Perhaps it would be beneficial to stream yourself playing in the days leading up to the dlc so we can give advice in real time. I feel like you may have hit a celling which turned you away from the game. Kinda like how some Dark souls players hate Lost Izalith and the bed of chaos. Not the most fun part of the game but you still have to get through it. If you push through it you may find out why everyone praises the game so much.

The moment you said you don’t like to explore - I figured then this game isn’t for you. Which honestly is okay. You do think too much about how others beat the game though. It’s a unique and solo experience. I first beat the game and all the bosses (every single boss) using every tactic that souls players say is “the wrong way to play the game”, I was always a high level, I’d go and max out weapons, I used the guides, I used walkthroughs 😂 I cheesed bosses, I figured out my own cheeses, I had a maxed out mimic tear, all of it. I even had that sword that shoots a Kamehameha and slashes fire 😂😂😂 I STILL found the game hard. First souls game. I tell you what though, if I didn’t do all of those things I would’ve hated the game. And I was so drained from its difficulty I didn’t pick it up for 2 years until recently when I decided I might give it a go and try to play it “the right way”. The game is made to be your own and if that’s what’s irking you, I’m not really sure that can be remedied.

I watched your dark souls 2 playthrough and it was great, it helped me get INTO souls. So i just want to say, as someone who played elden ring on release with all that hype, i hated it too. It didnt feel like classic souls, it was too repetitive, long, ridiculous, and unbalanced. The thing was, i wasn't playing elden ring, i was TRYING to play dark souls. Elden ring needs to be played like ELDEN RING. You dont HAVE to grind, or do every boss, or do most of the bosses to be honest. Its up to YOU and you skip whatever content u want to get to whatever items or weapons u need. Yes, the game has issues, the actual system and capabilities of the characters are lackluster, the jump wasnt enough, we needed a sekiro like block for some of these enemies, we need a better balanced endgame, we needed a less shitty horse, and hopefully future fromsoft games can fix this. All this said, elden ring IS worth playing, you just have to play it on its own, strange, slightly shitty terms lmao.

The reason Elden Ring is a masterpiece in my opinion is because of the game design and world building. It is BECAUSE of the fact that this game gives you so many different choices of how to play, there is no incorrect way to play the game? Wanna tough it out? Great! Wanna get OP? Great! Wanna summon another player? Great! Wanna do a no-hit run? Great! And etc. For my personal playthrough, I wanted to keep it balanced. So I used ashes of war and summoned on occasion. I also didn’t grind to get OP. If I ran into an area that I couldn’t beat, I had the option of going somewhere else entirely. Did I die? Sure. But nothing felt cheap or impossible in my entire playthrough. No game is for everyone so I respect your opinion, but all I can say is that it worked for me in every aspect.

Simply playing a bunch of optional dungeons and finding upgrade materials naturally will easily slighly overlevel you for the respective area, if you do most of them. If you had to "grind" for Radahn then you just had low vigor or a bad build/weapon with shit damage. Or you're not using weapon arts (that's where the real heavy damage comes from in this game) And in Elden Ring you can only really "grind" and overlevel the first 2 areas (Limgrave+Liurnia) where the bosses really have low HP and damage to the point that they will melt to a +12 weapon. Once you get to a the mid and endgame with a +12 to +20 maxed out weapon and 50 vigor being almost mandatory, and with the hard caps on the damage stats like STR/DEX, even 30+ levels will only give you like a 3% improvment so grinding is mostly pointless after RL150. The first 1/3 of the game may be 50% stats and 50% skill with grinding as an attractive option, and the midgame may be a 75%/25% skill vs stats but the endgame and DLC is absolutely 90%/10% skill vs stats. And the endgame content is by far the biggest chuck of the game.

Something similar happened to me too. Doing co-op with strangers for bosses hooked me back again but towards the end it got bad again. The fact that I liked some good weapons helped a lot. If you want to give the game a second chance maybe try doing so co-op stuff with a friend, or helping strangers. Just remember is OK to don't like the game, don't overthink too much about it. From what it sounds like was that it was too open ended for you. At the end when you said you don’t like exploring just to explore, also your breakdown of the beginning where became a chore to you to level up. The thing about the game is the leveling is intrinsically tied to exploration tucking off into the corners and turning over things to see what you can find. And another big thing is maybe the game can feel a bit lonely because it’s Fromsoft so the setting is bleak. So perhaps have a friend play to through with. Or give a little roadmap of things they think you’d find interesting. Now if those things don’t shed a little light on the experience then it probably just isn’t for you and that’s okay. Please don’t ever feel pressured to like things because other people do, your taste are your own recognize and respect them. There’s nothing wrong with you

If you're scared about overleveling and making STORY bosses easy then stick to the area of the map before the boss until you beat it. Each story boss has a cutscene to let you know that its THE boss of that area. Elden ring is an open world game and it makes you go around the map and look for places to explore. If exploring is not your thing then this game is not for you because its like 90% of the game. Also, searching up tips and guides is totally alright. It really helped me out. In fact its easy to miss questlines but I think most questlines are always available. So searching guides to questlines are a valid way to play.

Here’s my thing: I love finding new weapons/armor. I love seeing the variety in landscape in Elden Ring. I love discovering secret bosses. What is it about the DLC that makes you the slightest bit interested in playing it? What was it about the base game pre-Radahn and pre-Caelid that you liked? What was so special about Liurnia of the Lakes and about the Academy of Raya Lucaria that drew you to it? If it was all just other people’s opinions that influenced you to play and enjoy the game, then yeah the game might not be your cup of tea. But it sounds like you were having fun with it until you started overthinking about how others played their playthrough. Here is a fun fact: Everyone who I know or watched play Elden Ring struggled in Caelid and thought they were underleveled. Most of the time they were not; Caelid was just a jump in difficulty from the enemies the game presented the player with up to that point. As to grinding/farming, it’s entirely optional. I got to the final boss before farming for the first time (and that wasn’t because I NEEDED to, it was because I wanted an item I didn’t have the right build for). You don’t have to be a particularly great Souls player for you to be able to get by without farming. You just need to be willing to learn boss movesets and the tenacity FS games often demand. Good luck on whatever you decide Robo, but don’t let what you think others are doing (because a LOT of players also refused to farm either out of principle like you, or just because they didn’t have the patience [honestly how many players do you think did?]) stop you from conquering one of FromSoft’s hardest challenges yet 😉

Yeah, i definitely see where you’re coming from ghost. I felt a similar way toward the game when it first came out but heres the thing. Elden ring has so many infinite possibilities but unlike the souls games which i have played dark souls 1, bloodborne myself. The beginning of the game sure has a few difficulty curves but the combat opens up so much more past the starter areas where enemies get you in one move that one shots you (even if you feel overpowered). I’ve avoided radahn because hes a breaking point for alot of players as well so you’re not alone in that. I have revisited the game and now because of the dlc and enjoy the game has been balanced. The only person who i ever watched dark souls content for was for you. Especially dark souls 2 i rewatched it many times actually and fell in love with it from the way you played the game. I wonder if playing it outside of youtube has anything to do with it. Obviously i dont know you personally but i do remember how often you got engagement that would help you through a tough spot. Or motivate you to get to the next area. Especially with the dlc it could be the biggest souls like dlc ever and i would hate for you to miss out on it. Even if you playthrough it “overpowered” i am 99% sure you’d see elden rings beauty. Also put simply, the game gets so much better after radahn, still getting through my first playthrough. Started fresh and im enjoying it so much more than i ever thought i did. Maybe a playthrough on youtube like old times could give you some engagement and motivation to finish it 👀 You might enjoy the side quests as well, so more lore and challenges other than main bosses. I sincerely hope you give it another change.

I actually totally understand the difficulty with the difficulty progression in the game. Grinding 100% makes this game a worse experience. Something I have tried to great success is that each main new area limgrave, cailed etc. I limit my leveling no more than 15-20 more levels and this gave me a really good balance of difficulty and challenge. However Caleid is a lot harder than other areas even late game in my opinion lol Hope this helps!

This doesn’t make sense to me because he’s saying he got to a point where it got too hard and the only way he could beat it would be to grind and make it too easy. If you are having trouble with knowing how strong or weak you think you should be by when, you should look online there are guides for recommended levels on sites like fextralife and of course reddit. Not sure what you mean by grinding. This game has no grinding unless you mean just......playing the game, finding stronger equipment, upgrading, doing mini bosses and dungeons. Just....exploring. Of course there are plenty of things experienced players like me will do to "skip" a bunch of the content we've done before that may be useless to us but on a first playthrough you should just do everything you can. Grinding in video games usually means doing the same thing over and over again for power but even if the mini dungeons are similar and they reuse a lot of bosses(like a lot of other games) its still new content, new rewards, new build possibilities and more upgrade materials. Not to mention theres so much new and interesting content to explore secrets to uncover, crazy lore revelations, etc. If the idea of exploring naturally turn you off and you refuse to "git gud" by just learning boss mechanics and moves then......the games just not for you. You enjoy linear experiences more which is fine. Its strange to say you dont think they were doing anything revolutionary when you clearly weren't even exploring the world, looking for secrets, finding all the cool hidden paths and connection points for how brilliant this open world is laid out. You wouldn't even know since you didn't bother to finish it let alone actually analyze the level and world design, environmental design, and art design of the game. Ultimately all the info is at your finger tips. You can look up guides on what to do, when to do it and how strong you should be. You can git gud and learn all the bosses flawlessly so you dont have to level up a single time. OR you can just play the game the intended way, exploring and gradually growing in both player and character skill and eventually triumph. Or you could just write the game off, give up and move on to greener pastures as they say.

I just got done sinking 100 hours into this game over this last month in preperation for shadow of the erd tree and to play through it with a buddy. We didn’t have to grind once, we both are “gamers” but we aren’t good. This is the 5th or 6th play through I’ve done, and the first time actually beating everything. Not saying to flex but to emphasize a point. This time around we used a “cheat sheet”. We used this for the souls games as well, but it’s a guide to how to do 100% of the content since alot character progression and side content is locked in souls content unless done in a specific order. We did this for elden ring as well, and because we milked this game for all it was worth (we love these games and stories, and seamless co-op makes its so much more enjoyable too) we didn’t have to grind at all. I think we did the greyoll dragon glitch twice, but that was because he hadn’t seen it before. The guide did have us go in an order ive never gone before though. Limgrave -> Mistwood -> Southern peninsula -> stormveil -> The lakes (center main path) -> the lakes west -> the lakes east -> Ainsel river -> siofra -> Caelid -> nokron -> deep root depths -> lake of rot -> atlus plains -> mt gremir-> volcano manor -> leyndell -> forbidden lands -> giants -> consecrated snowfield -> moghwyn -> Miquella -> Farum Azula -> ashen capitol -> end game We were over leveled at this point because we did it all. All I can say is this made this game a treat this time around more than ever. Sad it ended, excited for the dlc

My favorite souls game was Dark Souls 3 cuz it felt so balanced in every aspect. Elden Ring is kinda like a big playground. You can become so powerful that it becomes easier than a walking sim or too weak to the point of confusion and frustration. I wish the game had clearer direction for the player as to what is intended at what time and what's not. Having to resort to guides a lot of the time isn't a great feeling. But overall I still think the game is great and a must play for any souls fan. My favorite playthrough, surprisingly, was a magic build, which is something I've never done in a souls game. It was the most fun and balanced. Maybe try it again that way and see if you like it.

I liked it, Platinumed it and appreciated it for how good it was. But I do not think it is the Best FromSoft game. Nor do I believe is the greatest game ever like some painted it to be. For me it was both the easiest fromsoft game and the one with the most infuriating broken moments at times. The strongest part of the game is its exploration, discoverability and level design. The Combat was a regression to Dark Souls combat (not that its bad, it just felt safe) despite ER being a new franchise and From having developed some very interesting new ideas for combat with Bloodborne (the actual goat) and Sekiro. This and straight up copied and pasted enemies and animations from the previous games is why some called it just Open World Dark Souls, which is a fair point. Also the repeated bosses came to be annoying. I loved the art style and the setting too and just the sheer scale of the whole world.

The game teaches you this very early with the first boss, Margitt. Be honest, you tried to rush through the game and just get through it. Not a good way to play a game. Enjoy your time with it, and explore it. That's the whole fun of the game. If you want to just run through it just to say you beat it, then it's not a game for you. This may be a controversial statement, but games are designed for people to enjoy.

If you come across an area where you are getting one shot or arent doing enough damage, leave. Explore elsewhere. Nothing on elden ring really feeeels liks side content, it is all worth your time as will give you a cool new weapon or item that helps progression or you stumble upon an area that blows your mind in art design etc. The game is designed so you should never have to grind to be at a similar difficulty to dark souls games. You just may have gone to an area too early in which case just try expolring somewhere else. I personally looked up good starter weapons for the build I decided to go with and so focused on aquiring those as something to direct my exploration but that is totally not necessary and can affect your experience. The game puts the difficulty slider in the hands of the player more so than any other souls game. You can use summons or over level if you want to but can also quite easily have the same experience as with dark souls if you so chose. There is no right or wrong way to play and that is part of the beauty of the game. I would genuinely advise goving it another try as you have missed out on an almost unanimously agreed masterpiece.

Honestly man, this is the least grindy Soulsborne game. Easiest Fromsoft game I’ve ever completed tbh. You can’t treat it like it’s Dark Souls. It is its own unique game. Stop thinking about what you want it to be and accept it for what it is. But at the end of the day if you don’t like it, then you don’t like it. No shame in that. It’s just a game after all

I think your wrong but who cares. Everyone can have their own opinion. To me it was the best experience I ever had playing a game.

I didn't care for it either. The open world hurt the game more than it helped. As a completions, I reached to do everything, and it trivialized Radahn (beat him without a second phase) and the only difficult fight was Malenia, and ONLY because she heals. The Souls formula works far better with a intentionally designed linear format. I'm so underwhelmed by the game, I have no desire to go back. Bloodborne and Lies of P are the diamond star examples of the genre, and Elden Ring couldn't even manage a bronze for me. Your thoughts, as well as mine, are not wrong.

I dont like elden ring either. Glad you made this video lol. I think the coolest part for me was watching streamers I like try to beat the hard bosses. Way more about their reactions then the game. I would never play this game. Looks too boring.

I dislike every From Software game I've ever played. I do not get the "feel good chemical" for beating a boss. I can't get it, and I've tried to. It makes no sense to me at all.

It’s ok to not enjoy it. I loved dark souls and didn’t enjoy this. The big bland open world just didn’t do it for me. I used to want shadow of the colossus to be like this where you had enemies scattered throughout the lands as you ride on horse back. Open world fatigue has really set in for me though i guess.
