I've been amazed at how great the Squier and D'Angelico guitars being made in Indonesia are, but the ones that have *REALLY* knocked me out lately are the Firefly guitars coming out of China. So far I have the 3-pickup Les Paul with the much improved wiring setup ($199,) the semihollow Tele Thinline ($149) which they seem to have stopped making, and their 338 model ($169,) which is basically an ES-335TD - style guitar, and the QC, fit, and finish are amazing! Just before getting those, I bought the Epiphone LTD Koa for $549 and had to level the frets (6 of them were too high,) and file off the fret ends before being able to even begin the setup. All three Firefly guitars arrived perfect, and only the Tele needed more than one string intonated. The Tele and Les Paul needed very slight string height adjustments, and the 338 only needed ½ turn of the bridge pins to be not only perfect, but super low, the way I prefer...and all three together cost less than the one Epiphone. I'm going to try something from Harley Benton next. Today's less expensive guitars truly are excellent, and in many cases much better than guitars costing several times as much!

Music AfterOldAge : Do you live in the US? If so, how much was the shipping? Which models do you own? I'm very interested in getting an HB, though I am torn between getting one of the REALLY inexpensive ones and modding it or one of the Fusions and just leaving it as is. I'll have to double check the Fusion for locking tuners. I simply won't do "regular" tuners these days, so I wouldn't want to drop $425 plus shipping on it and then another $60 for locking tuners.

I did end up putting 2 DMarzio in it - and now it's my secret weapon! Fusion come in roasted/no roasted FRose/Non FR models. The No FR all have locking tuners. Thank you man! Your philosophy regarding expensive guitars is VERY Rock N' Roll. I've become a little jaded lately because I see a lot of people either buying a $20,000 guitar to hang on their wall (don't get me wrong, guitars CAN be art, but they shouldn't be wall hangers) or they will only play their Gibson "Greeny" because "Haha, you will never get this, you will never get this!" The one thing that it seems all famous/talented guitarists have in common is that they started with a $100 guitar that they put blood, sweat, and tears into (and some nicer pickups and maybe a fretjob) and that was enough for them. So you highlighting guitars of all price ranges speaks to your character. You can tell that you appreciate a nice guitar, but you don't let that distract from the fact that ultimately they are tools. The tools with which we craft our music. Thanks again for being such a stand-up, kick-ass guy (and incredibly talented guitarist/entertainer).

You know, you are very gifted, and you share your gift with us. Me, I am a 63 year old garage band song writer who cannot read nor write music. I suck at guitar, Mando, piano Mando-cello, etc. but over the years, I have been able to squeeze out enough simple chord changes to put a melody to and eek out some songs. My band is called the Poor Nephews and you can hear some of our stuff on Reverb Nation if you wish. Upon your advice I brought a red Wolf LP guitar and I was blown away with it. Years ago I made my own Electric guitar I call the "EC*/ the last wonder of the world." My daughter Sophie age 4-5 back then helped decorate it. Its a weird shape, has a cheap maple neck, a P100, P90 and a single coil with three vol knobs and no tone controls. Tone is wide open, you just dial in what you want. It sounds better than I thought it would and looks crazy. Sometime maybe you should have a contest with your fans to send in vids of their creations to share what they made, and the winner can showcase his/her guitar by sending it to you to shred on as an example of someone's creativity. You don't have to limit it to guitars either. Its. just a thought. If it were not for my love of music and the creative process, I would be dead. Music is the only thing that has kept me going along with people like you who encourage the world to pick up an axe and play....it is the single most rewarding experience anyone can engage in. I also bought a couple Revelation guitars made by Wilkenson in England. Check them out. They had made a copy of the LP Recording guitar with the Low Impedence Pickups that sounded great but the stopped making them. Namaste... Eddie Case

I use a lot of tunings on my acoustics because, on those, I perceive a 'feel' and certainly tonal differences when string-tension is modified. But on electrics? I dunno. So, my question, Max, is "Do you hear or feel a string-tension or tonal difference with loosened-string tunings?" (I often tune strings down to fit the ratio-pattern of chords - like the Am chord, or the 3-fingered standard G... those produce my favorite harmonics notes and tones.)

I have 19 electric guitars, 3 acoustics, and another electric on the way in 3 months being built for me by Kiesel. You need to do 2 more videos now. One of what you think are your coolest guitars and the other one being ones of sentimental values. My coolest right now is my Gibson Explorer Back to the Future guitar. My Favorite to play is my BC Rich Mockingbird. My sentimental one is an EVH because he was the one of the greatest and sad that he is gone.

That first Schecter is my next buy. The sustainiac is the biggest selling point aside from the fact it looks amazing.

I got 5 guitars this year!(5 iv kept anyways...) 1. Schecter hellraiser hybrid pt 2. Fernandes revolver elite FR w. Sustainer 3. Fender jim root telecaster 4. charvel ds-2 with SD blackouts 5. Travel guitar/LTD colab. (Headless ec-1000 with tuners inside body) Only problem is the EMG 57/66 in my schecter just took a shit... its like they lost half there heat and dont chug no matter how much gain you throw at it...hopefully schecter makes it right, but its a knock on EMG more so than schecter. Scary thing is i had this same thing happen on another pair of EMG 57/66 set, but it was only the bridge pick up that took a shit.

I really liked the Halo guitar! Nice glossy grey finish and I'm really partial to scalloped necks! Guitar Max, you should feature the next 6 guitars in your collection in a future video!

I have found that the more expensive guitars may have better craftsmanship and appointments, but much less expensive guitars are often just as playable and can be upgraded with better hardware, electronics and some tweaking to make them just as sweet at a fraction of the cost of say a Les Paul Standard at $2k or more, or a American Strat at $1700.

I think I might be in love with that Fender HM Strat, She's a rippin guitar, with that humbucker and tremolo. The Harley Benton was amazing as well, and very affordable, which is a rare combination.
