It doesn't matter whether the tab is top or bottom. Try to make your peeps more discrete . . . sharp beginning and end. You can do this by making the G (like Go) "sound" with the back part of your tongue. Think "go, go , goooo, go" I prefer a Logan style whistle, because it's louder. The Acme is fine. You might want to put a lanyard on your whistle, they're awfully hard to find in the grass

I bought one and it is gonna take me much longer than a month to figure it out. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.

Hang it from your rearview mirror. Every time you get in the car, put on music that you know, and whistle along with it. Start with slow songs, or simple things (Mary Had a Little Lamb), then move up to music you like, once you get pro at the simple stuff. :)

@@McCannDogs LOL! I figured since that video was old, you'd be a pro by now, but the tip could help another newbie that stumbles onto the video someday. :) From Three Blind Mice to Bohemian Rhapsody in no time! ;)

About the tab: I've read that it doesn't matter. But personally I prefer for it to be against my lower lip.

+Donna Parker That’s good to know. I feel the same way. The whistle feels a lot more secure when the tab is at the bottom. I’m sure I will be even more confident when I e got it attached to a lanyard. Thanks Donna! ~Ken

McCann Dogs When my sister and I got lanyards, the (? attachment point) did not fit through the hole on the whistle -- what we did was -- in the fishing supplies, there are these little clips used for bottom rigs -- a bag of about a dozen is about $1 -- that can attach the whistle to the lanyard without scratching your whistle (and it looks like your whistles are very nice!)

Also helps to have the tab on bottom when you're starting out, and hold the whistle with your hand, your thumb goes on the bottom. :)

@@McCannDogs I can't even get a sound out of mine! Do you have a video giving beginner lesson for it? My 18 mo coonhound responds so much better to a whistle than a word for training recall (just me whistling)so I got one to try. No luck so far

So how did it go?

Hey, Donna! The good news is that I didn't swallow the whistle.. The bad news is that I wasn't consistent enough with my whistle, so I had to fall back on my verbals so I didn't send the sheep completely off course. We did place 5th in our class though, thanks to my little furry herding expert, Mac;) It's still a work in progress. Thanks for asking, and thanks for watching! ~Ken

Is the whistle only for herding dogs?

No it can be used on any types of dog But your dog needs to be fluent in Welsh before your start training with that kind of whistle. I'd recommend starting with your traditional instrument of your country, being from Guatemala I taught my dog with a marimba, but I'm working on teaching my dog Welsh. /s

@@svampebob007 im kinda curious why they have to be fluent in Welsh, is it coz the commands or whistle sounds have corresponding sounds in the welsh language
@svampebob007

@@joiesamaniego3056 yeah, it's because the whistle makes lots of loud noises that can easily irritate people, kinda like the welsh language :)
