Those amp demos were a thing, they just weren’t GOOD. Can’t tell you how frustrating it was back in 2007/8 to see people with good or interesting gear, but it was recorded on shitty camera mics. They had money for an Uberschall but not a SM57 at least? It was so bad. Plus, they’d play the worst shit to demo the amps. If there was any gain on the amp, it was straight to playing only leads (usually badly); they’d never play riffs. Countless times I’d yell at the screen: “MIC THE GODDAMN CAB! RIFFS MFER RIFFS!”

Okay so I was just talking to my wife about this yesterday. Most of my favorite KZitemrs aren’t doing the videos anymore that got me here to start with. I like the amp demos. I like the long 25 minutes of the same familiar riffs over and over. But I also know I’m probably not the norm. I am autistic and I have experienced that most of the time what I like is opposite everyone else. Bottom line, I’ll enjoy whatever you put out. Just know, you will always have at least 1 guy who’s into the same ole format amp, guitar, pedal, plugin demo. Yes amps are dying in popularity in favor of modelers. And that’s cool too. Like I love both. I really do enjoy pedals still. I miss a lot of new stuff coming out due to what you said. Pedal videos seem to not do as well so therefore, there’s less videos being made. But I still like them. I would love to see some hybrid rig videos. Stuff focused on mixing a tube rig with a modeler. Or massive pedalboard with midi switchers with tube amps. Maybe even some recording content. I know none of this is your usual, but these are types of videos I would stick around for on top of your usual stuff. Oh yeah. The Kyle bull 2 page is freaking awesome. I love basically all the content over there. Like tube section shootout was freaking cool to me. I like those super niche videos. Keep em coming Bro!!!

I think it’s burnout. Every month there’s a new “game changer”. I’ve started rolling my eyes at this point because a lot of it just another Rectifier or 5150. Plus, once you find a piece of gear that works for you, we’re at a place where selling it to get the newest thing no longer makes much sense, plus shipping is CRAZY expensive and you’re gonna lose your ass if you buy a big 100w and try to flip it on reverb. Personally, speakers are my obsession and I would love to see some interesting combinations being shot-out. I love that Jensen seems to be leaning in to the community and sending out their stuff for you guys to demo. In general, there’s still a lot of ground to cover in that realm that hasn’t been tapped yet. On the surface it may seem dry and boring, but when I’m driving I’m WAY more apt to listen to a speaker or mic shootout with minimal talking. It’s like crack for me. Brands like Lichtlaerm are insanely smart to develop an in house speaker because not everyone has need for another 2000 dollar amp, but most of us can afford a 130-150 dollar pedal or speaker. I just love it when brands have a lil something for everyone.

I think what has happened is the people that found you originally were into hearing traditional guitar amp demos. The reason they found you in the first place is because they were seeking that out. Now that you're channel is growing, the algorithm is promoting your videos to people who are interested in *some* aspect of guitar. If you look at the guitar content ecosystem, it isn't really focused around real amplifiers at the moment. It's mainly focused on affordable import guitars and whatever modeler has come out or received an update.

It’s a different world from just a few years ago when the amp defined you as a player. I was heavy into wet dry wet rigs and switching units with more pedals than anyone should have on a pedal board. Amps have always been a thing of beauty for me and that remains a part of my life that won’t ever change and nor should yours… take care…

I love your classic style of videos and really appreciate that you don't do play throughs with mixes (even though I recall you doing it on a couple videos a few months back). I just want to hear the amp, pedal, guitar, etc... that you're showcasing. Moving these type of videos to the 2nd channel and being less sophisticated in the editing is fine with me as long as it helps you out and keeps the channels going. One request that I've been meaning to ask for quite some time is that you do a "KSR week" much in the same way you did "ENGL month" last year. While I love ENGL and am lusting for a Fireball 25, I really think Kyle and crew make in my opinion, the greatest amps on the planet. Currently, I have their Ceres and Eros distortion and overdrive along with their PA50 power amp which is a metal heaven dream rig, I'm also bound and determined to pickup an Orion 45 one of these days. It just oozes metal! I hope this is something you would consider squeezing into your demanding schedule in the future so the rest of your viewers that aren't familiar with the awesome amps that KSR produces can judge for themselves their greatness. Thanks for all you do for us and I send many wishes for your continued success. I hope your conference call with QSC went well (their K series speakers are about the best in the biz!) The second channel is excellent for niche content. Stuff that you know your main channel viewers may not necessarily click on and watch, but for that select small group of people that the information would be invaluable for, the content is there. It's like your speaker comparison or cabinet comparison video. An hour long of playing the same riff through all sorts of different cabinets to hear the specific differences of the speakers. Most people would find that boring and not necessarily click or watch it all the way through, but for the people that are looking for that specific speaker compared to another specific speaker that they are interested in, that video would be invaluable!

Even live, "in the room" a modeler can beat an amp. I played an Engl Powerball in a metalband for years and I remember my first rehearsal with my Line 6 Pod go through a Palmer Macht 402 Poweramp into the same Engl 4x12 that I used with the Powerball. I dialed in the Rectifier in the Pod go and I was blown away. Don´t get me wrong, I was in love with my Powerball but I wanted to be able to work on effects at home, set levels exactly as I want it etc. That´s why I tried the Pod go and don´t regret it. By example, I use different guitars, in different tunings and pickups and I can dial in the gain of the virtual rectifier for each guitar in the setups I create for songs. There is no way I could do this with a real tube amp. And having the right amount of gain dialed in for the guitar, even for fast or slow riffs, affects the way the amp feels much more than other things. I love tube amps and owned many over the years but the most important thing anyway is to have good songs, play awesome, get gigs with your band and maybe find someone who want´s to listen to your music............

I fell in love with your channel for your high gain amp content. I think some of the your amp content views have fallen off for a couple reasons. It is true that more and more high gain players are using modelers and plugins, and maybe interest in high gain guitar playing in waning for young people. But I also think your titles have something to do with it. When you first started your channel, your titles were very searchable in terms of what amp you were demoing. Now with the more clickbaity titles, I don't know which amp you're demoing in a video by just looking at the title / thumbnail. Your old videos make a video good catalogue / reference for what we can expect from an amp for a metal / hardcore player, and they'll probably keep gaining views over time because they pop up high in the youtube search. Edit: i also think you starting the channel during pandemic has to do with it. People were bored at home with their stimulus check money ready to buy some amps, and were using your videos as a reference for what to buy. It seems like more musicians are selling gear than buying them right now.
@belligerentamateur
10 күн бұрын
i dont think you understand how youtube works. You can tag the equipment in the description and it still populates just as high in searches. If it's a dedicated review for a certain pedal or amplifier, i go nack and put it in the title once the initial algorithm bump dies out. I appreciate constructive criticism, and youre doing a better job of it here, but your other comments just come off as sour grapes because you dont like the way i title my videos. I dont do things without thinking them through first, so there is a reason the videos are titled the way they are - because it works.

@@belligerentamateur just giving you my own personal experience and opinions with your content man that's all I can do. I'm here for the amp demos and I'm still re-watching your content from 3 years when I'm in the market to buy a new amp as a buyer's guide. I get that you're trying to break into the wider guitar youtube community. I get that you're titling your videos to get views (that's why it's called click bait). But I can imagine a scenario where that only works in the short term and alienates your core audience, but i might be wrong. It's dumb that the KZitem algorithm encourages that rather than a descriptive title. I'm personally not gonna click on video titled "THIS AMP CHANGES EVERYTHING 🤯🤯🤯" with a blurred out thumbnail when I'm looking for a specific amp demo

I don't use big amps, I'm a bedroom player and mostly use modelers but more than that, I'd like to see more about guitars, You do some vids about guitars and of course have them in your videos to show the amps, but the emphasis was almost always on the amps. It's a cool niche, but as I think you're realizing it's also kinda limiting. You should do a more even spread of all kinds of gear. You have a ton of stuff, you have a good relationship with Sweetwater, I think moving to more rounded content could be good.

Lol but as far as content, I’d love to see a JCM800 2203 vs Quickrod 100 and if you did similar content on the 2nd channel I’d def watch it! I love modelers and plug-ins, but I don’t enjoy watching videos on them. I just find it a boring thing to discuss and watch, for whatever reason. If you did go that route, I’d much rather see a “how to make plugins sound next level” and give tips on how to make them sound like other creators do, which is often much better than how they sound to the user at home. Pedals…I couldn’t care less about unless they are truly unique and useful at the same time. I’m always into guitar reviews, though. Anyways, good luck!

I'm guessing the reason you don't watch the second channel of other content creators is because most of their second channels are super unfocused. they kind of typically just throw up random stuff on there that doesn't really have much to do with their main channel or they're just kind of pointless vlog videos, etc. I really want to focus both channels so that they both have dedicated audiences for focused content styles if that makes sense, but I totally understand what you're saying because I find that to be true for myself as well

Start mixing In different speakers into the mix. Every amp thru a Mesa v30 loaded 4x12 can be a bit boring at times. This way you can still use the go to amps and try and show which amps pair best with certain speakers. Like ever since I got my Hesu cab w the Demon speakers to me, made my stealth sound like the best version of itself. Ofcourse there are certain amps that play best with v30’s but there’s other options out there that pair better with certain amps. Like I think my Archon sounds best thru a v30 loaded cab but my stealth and MT-15 sound best thru the Hesu. Get people interested in what else is out there and how to optimize your tone. A lot of people rely on these kinds of videos as a template of what they think they need to purchase not knowing there’s tons of other options out there. Been watching your channel forever but I feel like more speakers/cabs based videos will open a new avenue of gear to show off. Just an idea, either way do what makes you happy bruv

I love amps, and I love watching videos of unconventional amps. I would love to see more speaker comparison but I know that this is not something that most people would be into. I still like learning about amps. I think interest in amps has died because most of the mystery has been revealed in recent years. You can download a free model of every high gain amp ever made, and it sounds almost identical to the real thing recorded. There are detailed and high quality demos of almost every amp ever made online too. They can all sound very similar in a full mix context too! For me, it has become more about making music that I care about with the gear I own. I went down a rabbit hole of gear acquisition knowledge acquisition, found peace, and now I want to do something I care about with it! Rather than just noodle around and obsess over details that only nerds like us care about. Maybe that’s just me!

I dont think amps are dying out as a topic. I think a lot of guys who got into it are now knowledgeable enough that they dont need to talk about it anymore. If you want to bring in new people into amps then you need to make videos focusing on noobs rather than guys who have already been into it and already spent their money on it. You need to make buying guide for noobs videos that gives an overall view of whats available. Then you will get a new audience of guys who dont have time to scour forums and facebook groups for this information. Also instead of wasting 5 minutes of people's time waiting for your chat to fill up, you should announce a video on youtube. Im sure you know most people who livestream put up the video beforehand that people can click the notify button on.

I'll certainly be the one to die on the hill as far as tube amps being superior. The issue I see with modelers in general is serviceability and longevity. They're much more complicated in terms of circuitry and software. Eventually something is going to fail on it and you will not be able to repair it. Conversely with a tube amplifier, many are built more simple and can be serviced by most technicians in the field today with common off the shelf parts. At the end of the day they are all tools in the toolbox. Doesn't matter if my toolbox weighs 37 lb instead of say 9 lb for a rack mounted modeler unit, It gets the gigs done.

People obsessed with tone still will watch the amp videos. The 30 thousand of us that check once every couple weeks, just to have a better idea about those amps. You have 50 thousand that love clickbait and drama. "Fake esp" yadiyada

im not lacking content or looking for new content ideas, and those types of videos have been done to death by others. Not criticizing your comment! Just responding with the reality of how things are on youtube. i try to make content that is very specifically my style and not what everyone else at the moment is doing, hence why i never did tier list style videos.

@@belligerentamateur No offense taken. My reasoning was an approch to keep you going in the amp department vs regular consumer who is not interested in investing in amps. This topic is always interesting as a barometer of the current offerings. Imo, it may have been done to death, but few have done it the "right way" and you are one of the few who has enough gear with the channel and knowhow to be a good option when researching this topic like a did when I got back into music. I think this was the topic I was researching that got me to your channel in the first place now that I think of it 🤔

The whole gear demo thing was like a 2020-22 fad I think, I feel like a lot of these channels have kind of stagnated and they’re more like gossip channels now lol
