English UK guy married for 27 years to a Taiwanese woman . Live in Taiwan and immersed in the local scene . When we met she couldn’t speak one word of English . I could not speak one word of Mandarin. But we shared the same feeling.

I lived in Nigeria in 1981, in a one-room bungalow set aside for teaching staff. There were about 20 other teachers and their families living in the same little bungalows clustered together. Most of them were from West Africa, and it did not take long for me to get to know them. Not knowing your neighbors, I discovered, is unthinkable for Africans. One of my neighbors, living in this little room with his wife and two small boys, told me that he studied in Manchester England for many years, getting his PhD. One morning at breakfast, he told me, how he couldn’t believe that after living in their apartment in England for several years, they still did not know all the people on their floor. That just wouldn’t happen in Africa he said. We in the West have many luxuries, things that most Africans can only dream of. The house I live in now, which is considered average in my neighborhood, would be considered a palace in Nigeria! Yet the sense of community that I found there was something I had never experienced growing up in America, and since then I have tried my best to be outgoing. You might say I brought a little bit of Africa back with me. You are right about finding happiness inside yourself first. When you do, I think you’ll find it easy to make friends.

Hi Lisa. You have a very positive philosophy. One phrase I remember is "Comparison is the thief of joy." If we spend time comparing our life with other people or what we see on TV, it can make us feel worse instead of appreciating what we have.

Good morning Lisa: This is my third video I watch after being in California so many years still have accent when I speak English you speak better than me. You might wonder why I don't speak good English is due that most places and most jobs I went though are Mexican so no need to - - speak English. Told my Chinese friend she must learn English her coworkers are from Chi na when she goes to other places she has to speak English you speak better English than- me. Only there are more Chinese people in San Jose and San Francisco. Los Angeles may be there are so many I don't know too much there barely visit there I just know Chinese - - - among other Asian are concentrated or live in San Gabriel's part of Los Angeles. Cesar

@@GobbyLisa99 It's okay, I was only joking in my comment. I just found it amusing your entire video is about having no friends yet you start the video with "Hello friends" If you're looking for an alternative by the way, you can use "Hey everyone" instead. Great video by the way, and it's also nice to see you're using your situation in a positive way and sharing it with others 👍
