Oh, Danno. I am sorry to hear you are having back trouble. That is very painful and I hope you will be on the mend quickly!! I was in pretty bad shape... overweight and had trouble even going up and down the stairs when visiting family's home because of my knees and my back. I adopted VERY low carbs/no sugar/walking at least 1 mile/day on treadmill. Dropped 70 pounds, knee and back aches noticeably dropped. I now walk 6-8 miles per day. The low carb/no sugar made ALL the difference! Oh, and I am 74. So, you might want to give it a try to see if it helps you. It definitely made a huge difference in my life once I quite sitting in my chair so much and got up and got moving. Low carbs/no sugar helped me get out of my chair and the exercise took up the baton and made it all work.

Want advice? Lie on your back, pull your knees to your chest slowly and rock. Then put your feet on the floor and lift your patootie slowly. Then slowly rock your knees side to side SLOWLY. Get on your hands and knees and arch your back, and drop your stomach slowly. These help me, and my back is horrible; a new neurosurgeon saw me the other day and was surprised at my xrays.

Those exercises are exactly what the doctor told my MIL to do after she got out of traction from a bad car wreck. I have a terrible back and I do them when I think about it. Usually when my back starts to hurt again. Advil and a heating pad helps me too. I think it relaxes me enough that I fall asleep so I can't think about it.

Sorry you are in pain...sore backs suck!! I found out that my sore back was caused by heel spurs...now starting to bother my knee and hip! Guess I need to do more to resolve the problem. Hope you are feeling better soon! I make quilts...with the price of fabric at $15-$20 a yard, then the hundreds of hours I put into piecing and custom quilting them...no one wants to pay more than a dollar an hour for my time and expertise, so I don't sell them. When a king size quilt would sell for north of $4,000, no one has that kind of extra cash!!

As a retired nurse who has taken care hundreds of patients with back pain/problem, most who had surgery, I sympathize with you. As a back pain sufferer, I also empathize with you. These are just some things that have worked for patients and from personal experience ... THIS IS NOT MEDICAL ADVICE Although most of my problems were/are in my upper back, the same treatments will still be appropriate. Heat will help relax muscles. Apply for 20-30 minutes a couple of times a day. Make sure there is a protective layer between Heat source and skin. Ice can also be used (PT did 20 minutes then 20 cold, so that's what I did at home). Gentle stretches ... lying on your back, bend your knee up to your chest. Gently pull it closer. IF YOU EXPERIENCE PAIN AT ANY TIME STOP! Any other exercises were "wall" exercises because I wasn't allowed to bend or to lift, pull, push or carry anything over 10 pounds at first, then 25. A rolled towel behind your lower back might be good when you are driving. Is the pain in your lower back or does it radiate down your leg (possibly sciatica)?

I'm sorry you are having back problems and hope you feel better soon. ❤ After nearly 45 years working as a nurse, I injured my back (upper and lower) when I sat in a defective chair at work. It was supposed to have been removed but wasn't. Anyway, I didn't feel anything (except surprise and embarrassment), and wasn't going to fill out a report, but one of the doctors who was there insisted. And I had to be seen by Employee Health for Workman'Comp. Thankfully, I did, because the next day I could barely move, especially any range of motion in my arms. My upper was one big spasm. Fortunately, after finally seeing a Neurosurgeon ( after begging EH to at least do an MRI), he put me on some meds that helped and started PT. After a week I was able to go back to work with restrictions ... no lifting, pulling, pushing, carrying anything over 25 pounds.

I'm so sorry. Here are some fixes for Sciatica if this is the issue. New Mattress....every 2-3 years update your mattress...sketchers footware Really comfortable..3-4 cups of Epsom Salts in a hot bath where you sit for 20 minutes....really works. Don't lift anything and if you are driving make sure you have supportive pillows etc. in place. In ten days there should be a marked improvement. Motion is lotion so a bit of walking in the correct shoes is good..lubricates the joints.

Sorry to hear about your back. I have had back issues and neck issues for 14 years now. I know how bad it can hurt. Myself, I took my son to Dollywood 14 years ago and it is all going up hill there. Ugh! The roller-coaster might have been the biggest issue, lol but I felt it the next day and ended up going to the hospital because it hurt so bad and they told me I had 2 slipped disc, scoliosis, sciatic injury...my leg was killing me too, to the point of crying. I was around your age when this happened to me, or at least close. I am 55 now and the back issues never go away. I don't take medicine. I just do stretches and did do physical therapy for a while. The issues with narcotics is that you can get hooked on them and actually they stop working for you and makes you take more and more, so I don't go there! Take some Advil if you are having trouble getting comfortable to sleep and try a ice pack and then go to heat for a bit switching back and forth and your Uncle is right! Stretches do help.

I just went through the same thing about 10 days ago. I still have pain but it's easing off gradually. I blew two disks in my lower back about 20 years ago and when it finally got better I thought I was good to go. Well, I was for about 8 years when I turned wrong getting out of bed and of man!! It took about a month of sleeping on the hard floor of the hallway with a pillow between my knees before that straightened out. You have my sympathy and I know you'll feel better soon. Just hang in there Danno. Try that pillow trick and sleep on a hard surface if you can. It sure was harder on me last week than it was 20 years ago LOL.

Sorry to hear about your back. As a retired ER nurse, a person that had been in an accident of any kind usually did not feel any pain or only mild discomfort the day it happened. It wasn't until the next day that they started experiencing pain, sometimes so severe that they came to the ER. What you are experiencing is normal and stretching with periods of rest, like you are doing is good. I would suggest though that you apply ice to your back, twenty minutes on, twenty minutes off and take Motrin. It is what the ER doctors recommended. They of course made x-rays and did CT scans to make sure there were no fractures or herniated discs. Hope this helps.

I'm sorry to hear of your painful back. It's surprising as we get older that even a sneeze can cause a back issue. I've been dealing with a crappy back and sciatica for years...chiropractors, cortisone injections in the spine, therapy...the whole nine yards. I found the best way is to pay attention to what I'm doing, don't overdo it, and take a break if needed. I also, on occasion use muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatory meds when my body says enough. I have osteoarthritis, sjogren's syndrome, asthma, & allergies. My body is getting abused from everyday life and genetics. Take time to heal, and don't be afraid to medicate when needed...stay away from the high- potency drugs that cause addiction. Know and listen to your body to prevent the big problems. I also had a orthopedic doctor tell me not to do any back surgery unless you have no choice and get a second opinion. Hope that you feel better soon. Jess can give you back massages and pamper you for a couple of days 😊😊
