The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry, and while I knew some things needed to be done to Jack, my Toyota RAV4, I didn't plan on having to fix a leaking rear differential.
I've only owned 2 other 4x4 vehicles, and I never did much work to either of them. I just didn't have them long enough. But even I know a leaking rear differential can be a costly thing if it's not repaired. Doing the time honoured thing of buying a Haynes manual didn't put me in a better mood, with the steps outlined in the manual saying that I needed to take the rear differential out of the car. Ain't nobody got time for that, especially this nobody!
So this video outlines the steps I took to replace the rear driveshaft seal and differential cover gasket on this Toyota RAV4, WITHOUT the removable of the differential. It can be done fairly easily, as I show in this video.
Jack the Toyota RAV4 and Nikita The Lada 2101 are part of the My Wife Hates This Car fleet, and are long term restomod/restoration projects.
