Fun fact, that Dan Murphys in Elizabeth gets so much theft, that the store itself literally has its own police every single day. The cops at the local cop shop get their shifts like traffic duty, the shopping centre, house calls etc., and some a couple poor coppers get the Dan Murphys shift where its just 14yr running out with bottles of Jack Daniels for mum and dad.

I worked at Rashays. One of the worst places to work at in hospitality, which is saying something. The owner - Rami - is best described as crazy lol. Our specials were basically chosen via spinning a wheel to decide/whatever Rami felt like. Most of the food is obviously overpriced frozen stuff. Way too many items on the menu. I can definitely confirm regular violations of labour laws. At one point the air conditioning broke, and the manager forced the kitchen staff to work in over 50 degree heat. Staff were treated like shit. Staff turn over was so frequent it could power the eastern seaboard. In a span of one year, we went through nine store managers. Regular issues with pay, crap electronic clock on system, god awful rostering that expected 3 people to cover an entire 150+ seats front of house that we got THE NIGHT BEFORE THE WORK WEEK. Rashays is crap. Sizzlers was better.

Sometimes you want the fancypants Naples-style pizza with an authentic crust and San Marzano tomatoes, probably washed down with slightly too much red wine, maybe a chinotto. And sometimes you want that experience of cheese that's fatty enough to wound you internally, combined with machine-shredded (not chopped, gotta make sure you keep that potent juice...) onions and capsicum; which was under-standard for livestock feed even before they prepped it 5 days ago and haven't taken it out of the topping fridge since.

When the Rashays in my town was opening and failing the owner sent a manager from another store to help us improve. One of the first thing he got us to do was pre cook 2 weeks worth of ribs so they would be ready when customers came in. We sold none that night and I went home with 2 pizza boxes full of ribs.

First taste (and last) of Rashays was years ago at a wedding (yes this couple held their reception at Rashays (Liverpool). It was so revolting, the pasta was overcooked slop with what I called mushroom vomit sauce and the chicken was so overcooked but flooded with sauce to try and cover up the dryness.

I remember when Rashays first opened in Liverpool NSW (the original location has since been absorbed by Westfield). It wasn't too bad a cafe, at the time. Rami didn't come across as a nutter or anything, at least in front of customers. It all went to crap when he opened the 'restaurant' side of things on the Hume Highway at Liverpool, that location is still there. I haven't been to Rashays for about 20 years, because even then the restaurant was crap, and by that point the original cafe was gone.

Please go to a La de dah expensive restaurant and punch UP, the kind that immediately ask if you would like sparkling water before you’ve taken your coat off, and after you quietly ask for tap water they seem to repeat it really loudly almost as if to embarrass you in front of the next table. “Oh… you just want TAP water?”. The kind of place that has a glossary for weird and foreign words. Where staff roll their eyes if you don’t order quickly enough as though you should have memorised the menu via internet research before hand. The same kind of place that only has “menu example” on their website because they change it so often that if you do go back, nothing is the same, except their pretension . Where the staff all put on their fake Italian or French accent to say the terms that the head chef only learnt last week and included in dishes this week to make you feel excluded from the latest thing. Don’t punch down Shanks. Punch up. Go fancy. Push back. This is Australia, squash that latte, fiano, ceviché, crudo, hibachi grill, Master chef BS. TIA.

The only problem I have with dominos is they have gone up $3 while decreasing in size 30% in the last 5 years. That said, if you can afford it, and get double toppings, it's pretty good. The cream topping is so good tbh.

As a Chef who unfortunately did not know what "Rashays" was, I applied and got called straight away to come in for an interview. Biggest red flags to anyone who actually gives a fuck about food. Everything is pre-cooked and comes in frozen (cakes, pizzas, patties, shnittys), all orders go through an electronic maccas screen, (no healthy communication with your F.O.H), and when it came to prep, old mate told me, "nah nah nah, it is super easy! It ALL comes in bags, all the lettuces and tomatoes etc are all pre-cut too! Just cut the bag open like Subway and fill the tubs in the service line fridge" - and said this super proud too. I asked what we are supposed to do inbetween doing basically nothing then? "Dishin'." Was his response. I thanked him for his time and gtfo asap, gaining the information to never eat there, nor ever work there.

We had a guy come in to the restaurant I used to work at trying to sell us pre cooked, microwaveable lamb shanks and some other crap. He was trying to talk himself up by claiming he sold stuff to Rashay's. My boss was just like "what the hell's the point of having a kitchen if you're just gonna microwave everything". We never saw him again.

In the Middle-East we call the kind of food that Rashays serves "Polystyrene food" because it comes in polystyrene packaging. Sadly there are fewer and fewer restaurants that serve this nostalgic food.
