This stuff is never going to sell. Ollie's could offer these figures for $1 apiece, and they'd still be stacked to the ceiling for years. I think the only reason they don't just send them to the landfill is because as long as they're still "inventory," then they're technically an asset contributing to the company's valuation. If they dump them, then they have to write off a loss. So what they should do is move all the unsellable Star Wars/Marvel trash to one gigantic warehouse and then cash a fat insurance check when a tragic and unfortunate plastic fire destroys the whole lot.

“Do you think Ollie’s will learn their lesson next time?” How? I’m assuming they’re salvagers. Stores that have either returned merchandise that can be resold, or find old shipments of merch that is already run its course at a store will be immediately salvaged out. Such merch is put in giant boxes, if it’s a Target a large green Salvage sticker is stuck on the side of the box which is then sealed and sent to auction. Ollie’s rep walks into a warehouse, and sees pallets of salvage sitting there waiting for a bid. That’s how the game is played.
