Prince Harry's personal and private revelations during his candid interview with Oprah Winfrey could potentially be used against him.
Prince Harry's legal battle with Associated Newspapers could result in a sticky predicament for the ex-royal. The Telegraph has revealed that the "most personal and confidential" details shared by Prince Harry in his memoir Spare and his interviews with Oprah Winfrey could potentially be used against him in court.
Alongside other notable figures like Sadie Frost, Sir Elton John, Elizabeth Hurley, and Baroness Lawrence of Clarendon, Prince Harry has filed a lawsuit against Associated Newspapers, accusing them of employing private investigators to invade their privacy by planting listening devices in their cars, accessing private records, and recording private phone calls.
The publisher's written defense, presented by Andrew Caldecott KC and Adrian Beltrami KC, argues that Prince Harry's case lacks foundation and is an insult to the dedicated journalists whose reputations and integrity, as well as that of Associated Newspapers, are unjustly tarnished.
They further contend that during the relevant time period, Prince Harry willingly shared private information about himself with the media. They state, "The claimant also divulged the most intimate and personal details about himself, his wife, and his extended family in his autobiography, Spare, published in 2023, as well as in interviews with Tom Bradby and Oprah Winfrey in October 2019, March 2021, and January 2023."
"Associated reserves the right to cite additional instances of such disclosures after disclosure has been made."
