Man, I sure do appreciate your thoroughness. I still haven't figured out what to go with for our motor coach (where we live full time, for now). We've been buying bottled water from Costco, and, aside from the obvious inconvenience, I wonder about what's in it. One thing that can be done with an RO system in a mobile environment is to plumb the "waste" water back to the fresh water tank. The slight increase in concentration of whatever the RO is removing is of no consequence for the purposes of that water. But 1200 or 1600 gallons per day! Wow! We only need a couple gallons per day at most for drinking and cooking. Not sure what happens to these systems in situations where they are "barely used" each day...

For city water, what do you think is now the 100% best system out there and what brand? I live in Northwest PA, so unsure what I'm targeting, but I'm looking at either whole home or reverse osmosis. Right now I have a berkey, but I'm at the point where I'm about to change filters again and wondering if it's worth changing.
@waterfilterguru
Ай бұрын
Well, it really depends on what contaminants are present that need to be addressed. There is no one size fits all solution, unfortunately. We do typically recommend reverse osmosis for the drinking water, but depending on the hardness and other parameters, the water might require additional pretreatment
@jgn2112

Hey man, small world. I'm also in NWPA and I follow this channel closely. I also own a Berkey. IMHO, the most appropriate system after watching and evaluating these vids is the Cloud RO Reverse Osmosis Filtration System. However, I won't buy anything (except maybe flouride filters) without first buying a water test like shown in some of his videos. I need to find out if the Berkey does a good enough job for the water in our area first before I drop serious $$$ on a system. Just my thoughts.

We've not lab tested any faucet filters yet, so I don't have any firsthand data. The PUR faucet filter is the most extensively certified that I'm aware of, though.

x12 vs x16 - the GPM throughput would be different, no? I am wanting to hook this up to a Quooker, Pot Filler and Fridge and while the Fridge can work fine with a reduced throughput - the Quooker and Pot Filler should perform as if they were still attached to the wall. With most maximum flow rate being 1.8 GPM the x16 would have a 1.11 GPM flowrate and while that is 30% off of peak - it would still allow both devices to work as normal (although not at the same time). Thoughts?
@waterfilterguru
26 күн бұрын
1,200 GPD = 0.83 GPM, so ~1 gpm below your target required flow rate. That said, it's possible to plumb an RO system to other taps, but keep in mind doing so and not using the included faucet may void the warranty. This is something you should verify before making any purchase.

The thing I really like about the G3P800 is the dispensing volume. Most RO systems have a very small flow volume in comparison and I guess I'm too impatient for that. ;) I have noticed that the system automatically performs a flush a little while after I use it so that may be something to consider in your efficiency testing.

Nice review, thanks for posting. One thing I think gets easily misunderstood is the GPD rating of these filters. Yes, it does give you the total gallons it can produce per day, but a more meaningful way of thinking about it could be in terms of fill rate instead. A 1200 GDP filter can produce 0.83 gallons of water per minute (1200GDP / 24 hours per day / 60 minutes per hour). That means you can fill a glass or water bottle at a rate of roughly 2 ounces per second. Systems with lower flow rates will take much longer. Maybe the super slow filling of a glass or large water bottle isn't an issue for most people, but I opted for the X12 because of the high flow rate. I couldn't justify the extra $500 for the X16, but $1000 for the X12 was a premium I could justify :)

I was really considering buying this system until I saw antimony in the filtered water. How reliable is this finding? There is no safe level of antimony.
@waterfilterguru
Ай бұрын
Since this was just one single test, we don't have enough data to determine if the antimony issue was a one-off, or if it's pervasive. We'd need to conduct more thorough testing to confirm. Still, its always surprising when we see new substances added post-filtration

well thats unfortunate. Certainly does not make me want to buy one with that level of uncertainty after such a finding.
