This technique is awesome! I had been working on a picked rhythm of downstroke, triplet-triplet, downstroke, triplet-triplet-triplet for over a year off and on building up speed. After 4 hours of thumping practice, i can match my speed only thumping! stoked how quickly this took :) thanks for the video!

I just love every content that makes me step out of my comfort zone, even if this is way too hard for me ATM, but hey... The first strumming those first open chords were hard at the beginning too, so yea... Nice video Hugo ✌️😎

It definitely helped to have played some classical/fingerstyle in the past. If you set a bit of time aside every day, I feel it's a very achievable technique within a reasonable amount of time!

@@HugoMoroux I’ve gotten decent at it, but I still have a ways to go before I can say I’m good at it. I’ve been working on it for about two weeks now, and can do some pretty cool thumping, but I still have some work to do with regards to doing big note groupings on one string. It’s a process though, and I’m making good progress every day. I didn’t do much finger picking before learning to thump, but I’ve been doing it a lot as of recently. I love it! Thumping opened a whole world of possibilities with my playing, and I love watching other people do it, because these videos show me different aspects of the technique that I might not notice on my own.

Appreciate your practise approach👌🏼. Regarding modern guitar: I argue that ‘thumping’ is actually an ancient technique used initially with finger plucked instruments. The bass players seem to have borrowed the thumb technique from Flamenco Guitar (Southern Spain the origin). It’s an essential technique study to play Flamenco. The technique is called ‘Alzapúa’. It has multiple variations. Please find this English spoken video; kzitem.info/news/bejne/ramlm2uah3SDfGU

@@HugoMoroux it needs to be considered. It doesn’t get mentioned enough. That observation and discussion probably doesn’t make a difference to some guitar players. But in educational situations it can add value. It pays to study different styles of guitar music or just different styles of music. I agree with many that it can enhance learning, development, creativity and performance. As it did for the Wooten brothers and Tosin. Thanks for sharing too. I’ll try to keep up. We are all learning 🧡
