Hi- I saw you do the midi's for Tatu! Do you do any Mylene Farmer or Alizee songs? similar music...

Sorry, no I don't. In fact I haven't made MIDIs for years, and I don't plan to make more anytime soon.

Actually I saw your comment that you don't do midi's anymore- Is there anyway you could tell me how you made these instrumentals? Like how you found the similar synth sounds and isolated the different instrument tracks in the original song. I've been trying to do this with "Gourmandises" for years.

Indeed I don't make MIDIs anymore. I was using MidiSwing as a DAW, it's an oldish but intuitive program that just makes MIDIs, by allowing you to draw notes on the sheet. No music theory is needed to use it. MidiSwing uses the system's soundbank by default (the standard library) but you can make it use separate soundfonts if you want (download them and put them in the folder). I always did everything by ear, listening to the same parts again and again, finding the closest sounding instrument, and drawing the notes. Sometimes I used (official) instrumental versions so I could hear it better, or even remix packs (with tracks separated per instrument) when they're available. In the case of t.A.T.u. there were often lots of demos available for the same tracks, mastered differently, but usually similar, so it was sometimes easier to hear what exactly was done in the final track. For extra effects not supported by MIDI i simply emulated them. Echo was simple, but filters were often done using combinations of other instruments, volume control, etc. It's easier to work with less synth-based music tracks naturally because a GM MIDI soundbank isn't so rich on synths, compared to other (more "real") instruments. With the years I got better at analyzing how an instrumental track was made. At a later stage (well only for 1 released track) I started using Caustic instead (mobile app but also available on PC), first because it's mobile (can be used in the bus etc) and is much richer, allows the use of patterns, etc... However it's a full DAW, so while it's more convenient and allows much better results, it's not a MIDI editor: you can export your track as a .mid file but it will only keep the notes. I did that for t.A.T.u.'s Show Me Love: I made the whole track in Caustic, then exported as a MIDI track, reopened it in MidiSwing to set the instrumental, volume control, reverb, panning... or baking the echo. And then my MIDI was done. I find this much more convenient nowadays. Unfortunately the MidiSwing website doesn't exist anymore. If I remember correctly, last time I checked you could still find a slightly older version on external websites, I don't remember the difference but I believe the actual latest version (0.3.6b?) only had a bugs fixes compared to the available one, basically. It's been a long time though. I think I've been deep enough in details, but if you need extra information don't hesitate to ask!

@@JoeyQuint Thank you so much I saw the response and I was trying to use your advice in real life with a couple of songs- it's very hard. How did you learn this music stuff? any KZitem videos or links you've used to learn initially? thank you so much again

@@principality543(something tells me I read this in my notifications, told myself "oh I can't reply right now I'll have to do it soon" and forgot :D) But no I didn't use something specific to learn to make these. I believe I was 11/12 when I found MidiSwing, was fascinated by it and opened some existing Midis I found on the internet, compared them to the actual song, sometimes tried editing them, and at some point I found some I was not happy with and wanted to try making my own, and that's it. Later when I started using Caustic I did watch its tutorials, and also multiple videos here and there (can't remember which ones) explaining some stuff about how to make some specific sounds, how to balance stuff, etc but that was mostly after I stopped with MidiSwing.
