Don't cup the mics! Vocal mics are cardioid, they reject sound coming from the back of it. When you cup the mic it blocks the ports that are needed for that rejection to happen and the mic becomes omnidirectional. It will also change its frequency response and it is not for the better. So, DO NOT CUP THE MIC! It looks cooler but laws of physics does not care about coolness.

For the first set: the Behringer SL84C is better than the PGA from Shure... And there really was no reason for MG06, that Pyle does it just fine with equal sound quality. Don't know how it reverb sounds but with "pro" gear you usually pay for ruggedness not so much about sound quality. What the DIY setup lacks is a compressor, which can take the peaks out and flatten out the sound levels, making louder peaks quieter. But, compressors are not for kids, hell, they are black magic for most adults. It takes fair bit of experience to learn how to use them but to be fair, you ask any sound engineer can they can give safe values that will work. Like.. -12dB threshold, 10ms attack, 50ms release, ratio of 4:1, where the threshold really is the only one that needs adjustments (look at the compressor gain reduction meter that it is showing that it is doing something at fairly loud singing, dial the threshold until it does that)
@jamesbyronparker

You're probably right about the behringer, though I havent used one, and i wouldn't have chosen the mg06, as theres better options, but pyle equipment belongs in the trash, legitimately
@squidcaps4308
3 сағат бұрын
@@jamesbyronparker Yeah, Pyle is quite trash but for this use.. it'll do. It is not touched much, it is indoors... light use at home is not very demanding. For the road it is absolutely a no-no, it isn't even good for a rehearsal space that has one ancient PA speaker for the vocals... As long as you get a unit that isn't broken out of the factory..
@unknownregions5014
Сағат бұрын
I have to disagree about the Pyle and behringer , it is a pyle of crap. Ill take Shure PG48 anyday over any behringer mic, the quality while not great, the Shure will last longer especially around kids. Desk wise Yamaha does sound better than Pyle, and yes the quality is a lot better, I also wouldnt call the MG06 prosumer per say, more low end professional as they are built for the professional market. Linus could of got a Mackie or RCF mixer which is slightly cheaper and is more prosumer in its quailty. I do agree however having a compressor would help, but if not setup correctly can cause more feedback.

I think for kids, especially since you already have an xbox, the best option would be to just buy Rock Band 4... It's WAY more interactive, with the on screen visuals, campaign modes, meters on how you're singing accuracy is going (with difficulties setting for any skill level). Assuming you already own the Xbox, it's also way cheaper. You can buy a new copy of the game for $30. And each Microphone new is $40 and you can have up to 3 microphones playing in a single game. Add a guitar for that one kid who doesn't like to sing and you're still under budget. Not to mention this stuff is definitely available, used, for less.. The downsides being less available songs, or having to purchase specific songs, but if this is a fleeting interest, I think kids will look past the limited library more than adults would.

They really do have a great setup and if you buy a basic PA system that you can plug your laptop audio and a couple mics into it you have a really great versatile setup. I like the DIY because you can also use it for other things. I have several PA systems for different types of events but honestly my little Samson Expedition speaker setup is my favorite because it’s SO simple, has quality sound, and can handle the most common uses. If you’re into tech / events at all it’s for sure something you should own.

I went down this same rabbit hole awhile back and came up with almost the same DIY setup. I have an optical out on my older Roku ultra that goes to an optical to RCA splitter, and the RCA feeds into a small Yamaha mixing board. I have two mics wired with XLR cables, and the mixing board outputs to my Onkyo AV receiver that can output the audio from the CD input while running the video from the BD/DVD input that my Roku is connected to. The biggest issue I ran into is getting the levels right since the mic inputs come in so much quieter than the Roku input. I ended up with the main and mics set moderately high, the music input down fairly low, and the AV receiver volume turned way up from where I have it for TV and movies, but it works well. I definitely wouldn't trust children to adjust the mixing board levels unattended though.

I always find it so serendipitous it feels like an LTT video comes out with the exact topic of something I had to do in my life around the same time. Two weeks ago it was my wife's birthday and she wanted an emo karaoke party. Being that I've been in bands for the last decade plus that we play gorilla gigs in the LA area, we have mixers, mics, and PA speakers around the house. So it was awesome seeing this DIY solution be so close to what we as gigging musicians had thrown together for my wife's birthday which blew all her non musician friends away. It's also fun to see what other more consumer solutions are out there since people always bombard me with questions about, what they can do that's similar but won't inconvenience them or cost an arm and a leg as a hobbyist. So I always love these types of videos since it's like checking my mad science hour homework and gives me great alternatives thanks to the multiple levels of "enthusiast" solutions. Awesome vid team!

When I was a kid, it was common for portable boom boxes to have a mic input that would mix with what the tape deck or radio was playing. Some even had a cheapo mic permanently attached. Fun for... uh, well... until the dollar store D-cell batts ran out. Just long enough to wear out the welcome.

Guy with a Vietnamese wife over here. I already had a complete 5.1 audio system so I just augmented it with an HDMI Mixer. IMO That's the best approach if you already have a home theatre setup.

Another option is to use your laptop or PC and download YARG (yet another rhythm game), you can then use any old USB mic or cheap option and download thousands of either official guitar hero or rock band tracks, or those made by the community (Rhythmverse). And if you get sick of just karaoke, you can then just play some regular guitar hero/rock band.

I've been a Karafun customer for quite some time now. It's a great app. I use it in my school to host a karaoke break. Like on the other apps you can request new songs and others can vote for your suggestions to speed up the "karaokefication"

There is another trick to the DIY setup. I have a karaoke setup that I needed for a wedding and the occasional home karaoke party. You can buy a mixer with a built in powered amplifier. A decent pair of speakers with stands and cables dont cost more than $300 and if you are starting out, you can just buy something cheaper first. The benefit is this all just normal sound equipment, meaning stuff is easily replaced or upgraded if you are enjoying the experience. Needing 4 separate inputs is actually a pretty high requirement in terms of karaoke in my experience. SM58s are by far what I seem most in karaoke setups in bars and other venues, but we are kind of in a golden era of microphones that are pretty ok for less than the SM58s $100/ea. I have a Behringer 10 input mixer with powered amp and 2 rockville monitors that sound fantastic for their price. Best part is that everything is very portable with handles and is also great just for listening to music or whatever you need.

I took an old guitar amp(maybe 60 bucks): bought a mixer, 2 wireless mics, and cables from monoprice for 110 bucks; tucked all the cables/mixer/mic antenna boxes into the guitar amp/speaker with a metal bar($2), then plugged everything all plugged into a power strip($10)… The mixer i bought also has USB output for her computer, and an extra XLR connection for my daughter’s “streamer” setup in her room… and I also added a HDMI eARC adapter($20); with the eARC adapter you can just plug the thing into any HDMI port on your TV, bring up a song on KZitem, and you have instant Karaoke… Unfortunately, I think it’s been used once for Karaoke, which just isn’t that popular anymore… all together though i figure it cost like 200 dollars, and it has been used as a PA system from the trunk of my car a few times… which was handy… and acted as a replacement at a public speaking event; whose sound system went down…

You guys should make a "survival tech" episode where you have to make a self-sustaining living situation that allows you to game, watch TV, work, do creative stuff all while being offline (maybe even off-grid).

Filipinos really love Karaokes to the point where we have our big machines that you can sing a song for a dime. There's also small karaoke machines, with an cd or sd card full of songs that you can choose from and run it in your home av system.
