There was another cartoon that came out about the same time as The Real Ghostbusters. But it was based on a 1950s show/movie about two guys and a gorilla. It's the reason they had to add "Real" to the title. It's completely unrelated to the movie. Also I think it was in 2016, there was an all female cast Ghostbusters. Many people hate that movie. There exists two versions of that movie, one is extended with a few different things in it. This female version isn't one of the four movies the person above talked about.

39:29 - The comment about it being 'like the Michelin Man' is correct. It's a fictional version of a company mascot. I read years ago (I was a young adult when the film was released) that Reitman actually wanted to use the "Pillsbury Doughboy" (mascot for a US company that makes various pre-mixed baking dough), but this being the US - lawyers and money and stuff, so it didn't happen. So the writers created a 'fake' one. Most of us in the audience knew exactly what was being satirized. We loved it, thought it proved GB was really a comedy. It's really difficult to explain the pop-culture impact this film had here. It has become part of our social fabric. In the US, we have a fall festival called "Halloween". It's a secular alternative to All Saints Day. People (actually started as a children's festival, but adults participate more frequently now) dress up in costumes, it looks like half the neighborhood is doing cosplay. The adults drink, walk, and talk, and the children are given candy by their neighbors. I had 8 Ghostbusters come by last year. Only two were older than 10yrs. Was an absolute thrill after all these years after this film was released that I said to the kids, "..I'm gonna call you if I have any trouble.." - and they all had a beaming smile.

Ok, not entirely correct. There's Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2 from the '80s. Then there was the "ladies Ghostbusters" movie from 2016 which was an attempt at a reboot. Basically they wanted to erase the old movies and start with a new story. It didn't work. It's really not funny, either. You can skip that one. Then there are two new Ghostbusters movies from 2021 and 2024. These don't have "completely different actors", exactly. They do focus on a new generation of characters, but the original ones from the '80s are still there, in the background, and the story is a continuation of the first two movies.

There have been a total of five films in the ‘Ghostbusters’ series: - Ghostbusters (1984) - Ghostbusters II (1989) - Ghostbusters 2016 - Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) - Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024) All of the films except for Ghostbusters 2016, occur in the same universe, with all or most of the four main characters (Venkman, Stanz, Spengler and Zeddimore) appearing as those characters, by some amount. Ghostbusters 2016 was an attempt to reboot the franchise, with female comedians as the new main characters, and it occurs in a separate universe. This film was not well received by its potential audience. The film was perceived as being part of the ‘woke’ social trend that sought to erase or replace beloved heroic characters (who happened to be male, and who are adored by men as well as women), in order to give female characters “their place in the sun.” I have seen neither the 2016 film, nor the most recent one, “Frozen Empire” as word-of-mouth has reported it as merely mediocre. The two standouts in the film series, are the original, and ‘Afterlife” (2021). “Afterlife” was directed by the son of the person who directed the original film (Ivan Reitman). The “Afterlife” film was conceived as a ‘love letter’ to the original film, a (successful, in my opinion) attempt to “make things right” with the fans after the failed reboot of 2016. It is the only example of a major Hollywood franchise (that I know of) to reverse course entirely after a failure to connect with an audience because of ‘woke’ content.

How can a movie about ghosts be funny? May I suggest you watch the American comedy classic Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein? This movie is not only very entertaining but is a good example of how to make fear funny.

0:56 - "Uncultured" was correct. It means you don't know much about culture. in old days, it meant you didn't go see opera and theater, but it hasn't meant that for a very long time.

The new ones are not that good. I would skip them lol. The original was a one time thing, it worked with that group of actors and that time. Even the sequel isn't as good in my opinion.

please,. for the love of everything everywhere,. do not watch the 2016 remake,.. not only is it poor comedy, it is not connected to the universe lore of the 4 ghostbuster movies. The most recent ones are directly connected to the first 2 even if they mostly ignore the second one which was consider bad at the time. By far the first, and the remake with Paull Rudd are the best in the group.

Ghostbusters II is a creepy same-cast sequal to this movie. The third movie was a cash-grab attempt to re-imagine the Ghostbusters universe with an all-woman cast. It is a failure and not worth your time. The fourth movie, Ghostbusters Afterlife, is a direct sequel to the originals, particularly Ghostbusters, two decades or so later. The first, second, and fourth movies comprise a trilogy story arc.

Afterlife do seem a bit interesting actually, even though I don't really know the story per se, I often like having kids as protagonists, and if its linked to the original its even better.

Thank you. The first two movies use the same cast. The third movie is a remake with a new, gender flipped, cast that was not well received but is not necessarily a bad movie. The more recent fourth and fifth movies are directly linked to the first two, they are sequels to those movies. SPOILER WARNING ... The fourth and fifth movies do have those members of the original cast who are still alive appearing in them. I enjoyed all four of the main movies, the first two are a nostalgic treat. I didn't hate the third movie, it wasn't a waste of ninety minutes as some have said, it had many enjoyable aspects.

Beg to differ, the third movie Ghost Busters 2016 was awful, I heard all the bad reviews and could not imagine those four women not being funny. So, I went to red box, watched it and red box owes me a dollar. It was a horrible, horrible movie, it was like they phoned it in it is almost entirely bad improv. Chris Hemsworth had some funny line as did the tour guide at the beginning. The story line was trash, they treated the IP like dirt by making such a catastrophuck of a movie. The acting was like a bad cartoon, the jokes weren't funny, and one scene was extremely cringe-corny. What they did write down for a story was straight up dumb. The original Ghost Busters had fantastic things happen in the real world and GB 2016 did not feel like the real world, they made it seem like a big goof. The film wasn't even included in the box set with the first two and GB After Life. The 2016 director had to beg after the fact to have a digital download code for his movie included invoking misogyny and homophobia on social media to politically bully it into happening. It is a toxic product, but to each their own maybe you will like it.

@@bluebird3281 I wont disagree that many felt that way about it as i said, and the people making it have a right to be disappointed in their work if they feel it isn't good. For a big budget Hollywood movie it is disappointing, but it just isn't even in the same ball park as really bad movies.

The 3rd one I remember seeing the trailer and it looked to me to be simply a cash grab type of movie, without putting any real effort into it. Some friends of mine went to see it (some of them were very excited about a new GB movie) but none have liked it, so I kinda never got around to see it. Probably that influenced me to not see the remaining sequels as well 😬😬😬 Either way, this movie right here was really fun to react to!! 😜

@@ptthatswhatshesaid As I said my enjoyment of the third film is an anomaly, very few people seem to have done so. The fourth film is I think a good film, it doesn't suffer from any of the issues of the third film and seems to have met with approval from many fans of the original. Is it a cynical Hollywood cash grab? Maybe almost every sequel is, but that doesn't make it a bad movie and a faithful sequel.
