A lot of those random weights are bolted on to mitigate vibration by moving the the CG of components, or just adding enough mass to change the resonant frequency. Usually this happens in secondary and tertiary vehicle testing, so the solution is cast a hunk of metal, sometimes encase it in rubber, and bolt it to the frame or vibrating component. This is looking like an interesting project, but I am concerned about you reusing that radiator. Considering the sludge and copper that came out of it, I would be worried about the radiator contaminating the coolant passages in the electric motors and batteries. For the cost of a new radiator being relatively low, especially compared to new motors and batteries, I would just replace the radiator, or at the minimum find a good way to properly clean it out.

That or see if re-rodding (if you can find the specialty shop) might help clear things out. Whatever sealant was used to fix the radiator is probably going to hang around, too much of a risk for what you want the car to be, which is a functional EV conversion. (Although I just looked up what a radiator cost OEM, aprox. ~$200 max.) Re-rodding is a specialty these days so the labor is probably worth more than the OEM part.

This is extremely exciting. I can't wait to watch this all unfold. I really want to tackle something like this some day. Very glad you've got the deadline, that's (probably) going to help the overall project a lot.

I'm excited to see aftermarket support for electric motors to be used anywhere our hearts will desire. It is a bright future indeed. As soon as battery technology catches up and the electric grid capable of sustaining all of it, the sky is the limit!

This hits really close to home for me, because my first car was an '04 Escape and one thing I always wanted to do was electrify it. I knew there was a lot of space in it, so I looked into it a couple times. Unfortunately I wrecked it several years ago, so I never even got to start. It's awesome watching you do this. Maybe one day I will buy an old Escape destined for the crusher and perform my own swap. After all, now I have a good recipe😆.

Hey, to simplify the solution for the power steering and power brakes, get a GM Hydro boost cylinder and just hook an electric motor to a GM power steering pump. You can run both off one pump and this build is temporary so you don't have to worry about the longevity or efficiency of the setup. Plus hydro boost parts are smaller than vacuum ones

Dude I wish I could work in the garage with you cause you seem just like the kind of guy I'd have fun with. Always enjoying the videos man, thanks! Ps. You gotta test drive a proper tuned Saab 9-3 or 9-5 sometime, hell, even an old 9000 with a truck turbo on it. Just don't turn too much and you'll be fine lol.

If he limits the power it might not be too bad. I'm thinking that there's a lot of parts still in there that won't appreciate 900hp though.

I am SO excited for this project! I’ve been wanting to buy an A class RV and convert to electric so it’s nice to see some ideas how you’re going about it. Subbing and looking forward to when you put this in the bus! I’m most curious about your thoughts for range on the bus

I've been looking into that stuff a bit recently. It appears that you should have a diesel heating system if you plan on going into cold climates. Wessar has a neat little stove and heater unit that might be useful for you. Diesel apparently has a dry heat to it

If you want to reduce some of your project costs you should look around and see if you can find any scrap yards that would take the old metal parts you don't need anymore. it most likely won't be a ton of money that you get unless you save up a bunch of scrap and take it in all at once but i figure every bit helps.

and it cleans up the place. I have abtrailer that I fill up with scrap. when it's full I have some cash in hand again.

Or even just sell that engine to someone, even if they pay scrap price it’s even and any money above that is just a bonus.

Looking forward to this one. When the ICE eventually dies in my S197 Mustang, I know AEM already has the kit to convert it to an EV. But that was with one large drive unit. I'd love to turn it into a 4WD setup very much like this.

That sounds like a fun car. Are there any bolt-on parts available for the front to allow driveshafts in a Mustang?
@EmyrDerfel
Жыл бұрын
if you fit two drive units to a Mustang you wont have space left for battery.
@questioner1596
Жыл бұрын
@@EmyrDerfel it depends on the batteries used - if they fit in the area occupied by the driveshaft, exhaust and fuel tank, there may still be space. Depends how much range you need. Also, removing the back seat can give Battery space. If it's just meant to do a few quarter miles, a smaller pack would certainly reduce weight, as long as it has enough power to supply the motors fully. Power is instantaneous (kW), while capacity (kW*h) is power for a period of time.
