Opinions are divided, so substantiated facts are better. We conducted an experiment on germinating sweet pepper seeds in different substrates to find out the dependence of the development of the root system on the composition of the mixture in which the seeds were planted. It is a true statement that a poor soil mixture stimulates the formation of a developed root system, since the roots have to look for food. Conversely, in a balanced soil mixture with a high nutrient content, roots should develop weakly. As a result, the roots developed equally well both in sand and in fertile garden soil, which debunks the myth about the rapid development of the root system in a poor substrate and weak development in nutritious soil. At an early stage, high-quality seedlings are determined not by the height of the above-ground part, but by the developed root system. After emergence, the seedlings use the remaining nutrients from the seed, so any feeding is useless; young seedlings are not able to absorb minerals.
