I purchased (attempted to at least) a MBP very similar to the one you did and it arrived DOA. Wouldn't boot, wouldn't charge, and I only got a depleted battery symbol and it'd shut down. So I exchanged it for the same thing and the replacement did the exact same thing. So a month and a half later I am still waiting to replace my aging 2013 trashcan. I really want a new MBP, but my faith has been shaken... I have never had serious quality issues with Apple until now. Anyone else have problems with a new MBP recently?

I haven’t heard much about this issue being common. Where did you purchase from? I know on newer models, Apple tries to collect data and information on anything that might be a manufacturing defect at the Apple store. This helps them find issues that need to be fixed in the rest of the line. Hope everything works out!

@@2MinuteTech I purchased it from B&H, and they have been exceptional in support, customer service, and returns. Even they stated that they have seen several issues like this, so I hope they are getting this info back to Apple. I did contact Apple support as well, and while they were as helpful as they could be, there was no recognition of this even potentially being a larger issue. I thought I'd throw this out in comments here since it seemed somewhat relevant and to see if anyone else may have had similar issues. Thanks for the follow up, and keep up the great work!

I’m glad you called Apple service. I used to work for Apple retail and I know they rely on feedback to help improve issues. I got mine from B&H as well and had a great experience also. Thanks for sharing your experience! 🙌

A query: Have you tried hooking up your Macbook Pro to the eGPU? If you did then how was it?
@2MinuteTech

When I have it set at the desk, this is my setup. Honestly, the Pro is so fast, I haven’t noticed a significant improvement other than being able to use the EGPU as a Thunderbolt dock. If I were working with larger projects, you may see more improvement though. I will do more testing...

@@2MinuteTech Cool. I'm keeping an eye on the latest 13" Macbook Pro and was thinking of getting a Razor Core eGPU to supplement the graphics.

Ewan Lim i think you would have similar results. For most of the work, the internal GPU will handle it. For some the EGPU will. It just depends on how the software your using works with an EGPU. For most editing, I think the 13 will be fine, but if you start to add more advanced techniques and plugins, you’ll start to run in to a bottleneck quickly.

@@2MinuteTech hahaha because i edit for fashion brands, I use the Cosmo (red giant) plug in which uses a LOT of gpu power. For me, since I have to be mobile, the 13" would be great except for the GPU. I can totally foresee it bottlenecking when I'm editing away from home.

That is why I have been holding on buying a MacBook Pro. Plus is going to be my first MacBook Pro and I’m trying to get the right one that fit me since they are not cheap in price.

I tried to make it work, but the MBP just runs circles around the Mini. Best to hold off! 👍

@@2MinuteTech you were using the 2018 mini right? hard to understand why a 6-core mini with egpu wouldn't be able to get in the ballpark of a MacBook pro 16.

It’s about the way the software chooses to use the internal GPU vs the EGPU. I use Final Cut, which does better than most, but many plugins aren’t even supported due to the internal graphics card. If the software would chose to only use the EGPU, this would be less of an issue, but the support just isn’t there yet. 🙌

Good to see you, sir! I'm still using Final Cut Pro. I did try DaVinci Resolve and Adobe Premiere etc. I always go straight back to FCPX though. That's a lovely laptop. Stop making me jealous lol 😂

I don’t think I could do Premiere. It just doesn’t make sense to use software that runs so inefficiently with no gain. Glad to see you as well!!! 🙌

.........you do realize you can upgrade the ram on the Mac mini right?
@2MinuteTech

I do. I was going to do a RAM upgrade, but the real bottle neck in my flow was the GPU and unfortunately the software and plugins that I use are do not utilize the EGPU. Believe me, I would have loved upgrading the RAM. It’s one of the reasons I was really excited about this round of minis.
