Oh I feel your peacefulness. But I can’t seem to find calm in simplicity myself. I have tried and I get anxious without a plan. I guess it’s the accountant in me. I tried to move away from planning to more of the record keeping method, and it drove my kids crazy. They want to see the plan and have something to work towards. That’s not to say we always get it done, in fact that’s rare. So I guess I am flexible planner, if that’s a thing. This year I did buy less “stuff” as far as workbooks go, but we are readers and I tend to buy way more books than we can read. I justify it by saying I like giving my kids options. Haha. Maybe one day we will find peace in less planning, but for now I will enjoy dreaming about it. 😂

When everything is planned for the week and I HAVE to do it, it makes me have anxiety knowing that I HAVE to do it! And then I do not want to do it knowing that I must. Reverse planning Is the way to go! This is my first year homeschooling my first grader❤

My goal this year is to be simple on curriculum and allow for more organic learning, I think I’m going to cut back even more after watching this 🤣. I do plan out my whole year at once, however, I use homeschool planet and just print a list for each kid weekly so it’s soooo easy to adjust and change. With 6 kids reverse documenting just did not work anymore. Homeschool planet planning actually gave me more freedom and peace during this season!
@heidibarker2120

I do the same, but I plan in Excel. Homeschool Planet didn’t have plans for a lot of our curriculum. I add cells, shift to right, and move things around when needed. But I print out the plan for one week. We highlight as we complete, or I highlight something if I decide we won’t be doing it, then shift what wasn’t done to the next week. SO much easier for us and everyone has their plan.

@@heidibarker2120 I can’t figure out excel, it confuses me 😂 my husband swears it’s easy but I don’t get it. I didn’t use any of the pre made plans with homeschool planet, I just create my own, but they make it so simple and easy to do!
@heidibarker2120

@@L--C haha. Well I was an accountant (thus my need to plan) so Excel was my best friend for many years. It is so easy to create plans in Excel too. I did the homeschool planet trial and that’s when I realized how easy it would be to do the same thing in Excel and I had full control of how it displays. I’m sure more time with Homeschool Planet and I would have felt the same, but I went with what I already knew.

@@L--C that is funny! I think we all come from a similar mold. He probably would resonate with my old mantra that “if we fail to plan, plan to fail.” Haha, I often call myself a “recovering” accountant. Time was literally part of our budget plan for every job. It’s so hard to get past that thinking.

Totally needed this today! We are about to enter our very first year of homeschooling - and to say that it has been overwhelming to research and try to get the 'best picks' for our girls is an absolute understatement! It encourages me that even a veteran homeschool mom can say "Hey, I don't have it all figured out yet... and that's ok!" So, thank you so much for your message!

Yes guuuuurl. I love this. I’m with you. Love that you have peace. Isn’t that what really matters, for us to have that, then create that feeling in our schooling? For me, it’s so hard. This is year 4 for us so I’m excited to look back after 13 years like you are doing now. And nature always speaks to me. Always. ❤️ I’ve been here for at least, maybe 3 years and I have watched the change. It’s been beautiful. Your honesty is so appreciated. Also, I am part of Christy-faith’s homeschool group and I took her homeschool “type” quiz and I was eclectic. I was like, yessssss. That’s it. Lol. Eclectic!

We sometimes just pick and choose what we want to learn in the curriculum. If my kids don’t like something we move on. That’s the beauty of Homeschooling ❤ We rarely finish everything and just pick up with it the following year. Yes to unit studies, we really love Campfire and Gather Round. Titanic was the best ! Have a blessed school year 🙏🏻

Gosh, we are entering into a school year of chaos due to my 15 year old’s 2 class schedule at our local high school. HVAC for 3rd period and Band for 5th 🫠. I’ve finally residing in the idea that the most important part of my kids’ education is that they are learning and progressing, even if it doesn’t seem it’s as fast as their public/private school peers. I’m finally at peace with that! We’re working in a loop schedule with Bible and Math being everyday non-negotiables. History, science, and language arts we’ll loop everyday and stop at 3 no matter what. On top of that is after school and Saturday practices during marching season - so we’ll do our best without burning out! Onward we go!

Great video! 💗 i agree completely! I have found (and with your encouragement), the "slow down" way is the best way & to take one day or season at a time & go with what is given to us at those times! To not panic or worry about all the things ahead is peaceful & just patiently waiting. Love this video! Thanks for all of your encouragement & helpful info! God is amazing!

Love this! Trying to come up with our “chill and fun” homeschool year this year, I have a 4th grader and a kinder and am in my first trimester right now(so lots of sickness for me) my prayer is to take it slow and don’t let the doubt creep in, because usually curriculum creeps in then. My husband has a new schedule as a firefighter and will only be working 2 shifts a week so I’m really trying to embrace a wonderful family culture and have lots of family learning. Still a work in progress over here , it’s amazing how curriculum creeps in when the doubt comes

Girlfriend, you are speaking my language! We are embarking on homeschool this year. (Did it in 2020 for half a year but felt like I failed) but God has put it on my heart to homeschool again after the private school my kids attended basically failed us. Out of all the KZitemrs, you are my favorite! A lot of what you say, is exactly how I will be implementing this year. I too am gonna be using what I have. Gonna do teaching textbooks 15 lesson free trial to make sure my kids like it. As well nightzookeeper(your the one I found out about it). I will be puts basing iew level b for my upcoming 6th and 7th graders, along with phonetic zoo(also recommended by you) and a friend from church accidentally ordered 2 turtle twin history books so got that and gonna watch Tuttle twin episodes and planning on ordering The chosen devo for kids and go through together, watch episodes and discuss and rabbit trail. I get a little discouraged thinking I don’t have enough but God has reassured me and after watching your video it’s clear, I’m doing exactly what I’m supposed too and we are also gonna be embarking in unit studies, super excited about them but only one unit study at a time! Anyways thank you so much for your encouragement and your inspiration and what a beautiful soul you have, and always surrendered to what God has you do in this season. Please pray for our family and we begin school this coming Monday. I will be praying for yours as well. Again God bless you Jamie and your words of wisdom!

Great video and great tangible tips there! I'm so stressed over biology and labs. 🤦🏼♀️ We had planned on doing it with a co-op, but a schedule conflict came up and now we have to figure something else out. I don't want to overload my kids and I'd like my 8th & 10th grader to do it together because I think it would be helpful to them. Any recommendations for Biology done at home? Anyone? Outside of that, I'm planning a gentle start too. ❤
