You are a smart man! I was a registered nurse for 46 years so I know what you mean. I changed my focus any times during my career from the O.R to community nursing to Arctic outpost, chemo, Palliative and Emergency nursing. I still love what I did but as you know anything can become routine and tedious. You’re young. You have an open sea to live and conquer in your own way!

Well, I'm an old salt former charter, tournament, and pleasure Capt for hire. I can flat out say that if you want to live poor, then get your Capt license and go in debt buying a boat that someone else has already moved on from. If you love deep sea everything then don't try to make a living at it. Now I have know a very few that made it charter fishing. They all had side gigs that helped them succeed at chartering. Brother Waterman find you something that will provide you a way to go enjoy the water and you don't have to worry about some googin ruining your day just because he's paying you to catch his brat kid the fish of a lifetime. Physically I do believe that you get shorter after those days of 3-5 or 4-6 foot seas. The only way I see for anybody to make it as a Capt is to work for a person that can't never spend his money. Professional athletes, movie stars, musical millionaires. Let them pay their dues for owning a boat or yacht. I could go on for days talking about the life of a 6 pack charter Capt. Head up my friend.

I’ve met plenty of captains that I absolutely felt like I was a paycheck and not a client for someone who was passionate about what they are doing and happy to share that with me. It’s a lot of money for a day out fishing with your family and you incur all the cost for the boat. I agree that the sandbar trips are going to be very enjoyable for you! Life is about doing what you have to for you to stay happy and healthy. Hope you will continue to make some videos the scenery is beautiful!

Mate if you're feeling it at 34 lucky you didn't do my job. I'm a recently retired bricklayer at over 60 years of age, been doing it since I was 14. I was a brickies laborer at 14 and got an apprenticeship at 16. I can't straighten either arm, can't touch my shoulders with my hands and my back is shot. But hey I hear a lot lately about my white privilege, I only wish my father heard about that after going into the Merchant Navy also at 14, only to have his ship sunk in WW2 at 18 and ended up washed up on shore with his his foot hanging off, then doing 4 years in a German POW camp. Then coming home and working in coal mines and driving tow trucks at night, 2 jobs a day

How about doing spear fishing charters only with clients who have all of the proper gear and already have experience? More of a guide than a teacher because I'm guessing it was the teaching/learning curve of your clients that generated most of your frustrations. I may be way off and this is just an idea, but potentially something to consider. You basically provide the boat and know the best spots but you aren't gearing them up and teaching them the sport.

I never took the journey of becoming a charter captain, specifically because I didn't want to turn my main passion into work. I sometimes question that decision and always envied those who love it and don't get "salty." Looking forward to see what you got cooking for the future!

These should be called "bucket talks" lol. Real changes are happening, and they are delivered from this bucket ;). Kidding, I'll say a prayer for your continued success and for a happy life. Cheers from Orlando.

Here’s an idea to keep the boat generating income, tailor your charter experience towards high end/wealthy people. Charge more per head but take less people out. Maybe offer a BBQ party on an island somewhere you can bring a table and some chairs.

I feel your pain brother. I tell everyone all the time, I absolutely love my job, if I were to win the lottery and never have to work again I would still do it. I've been running charters for 10 years and it definitely takes a toll on the body. There are days where I dread just getting out of bed because my knees and ankles hurt so bad but I do it for the love of the water and the smiles I can put on peoples faces. Recently I've been cutting back on fishing charters and doing airboat tours working for another company. It's been a night and day difference on how my body feels at the end of the day, and not to mention stress free.
