Frank is one of the greatest vocalist ever. If you want an easy list of songs I would suggest listening to “Sinatra at the Sands”! It really is him at his prime. My favorites are “One for My Baby”, “The September of My Years”, “It Was a Very Good Year”, “New York, New York”, and “My Kind of Town”. There are SO many… and if you’re looking for great versions of Christmas songs, look no further than Frank! Sinatra turned 50 years old in 1965. He addressed this milestone with a theme album, "September of My Years." Every song is about aging. "It Was A Very Good Year" is sentimental and sweet, and probably my favorite song on the album. But a half-dozen are classics with awards and huge audiences. It's a good intro to Sinatra. But there is much more. "Songs for Swingin' Lovers" and "In the Wee Small Hours" from the mid-1950s define the popular music of that era. Sinatra released five albums in 1961 and they are all awesome. Sinatra was known as "The Voice." He was probably the world's most popular singer for 15 or 20 years. He had a good film career too. It is so nice to see someone of your generation able to recognize his genius and appreciate his singing.

You should do one from his prime in the 50s & even early 60s! This performance is from very late in his career when his voice is beginning to diminish a bit -- a little scratch and waiver here & there, a little trouble hitting some notes exactly on target & having to adjust... While still an awesome video, he's even more amazing earlier in his career. Thank you for reacting to and appreciating The Master, though!! ❤❤❤❤

I do love his earlier material and my collection goes all the way back to his time with Tommy Dorset. But in my opinion, the Reprise years are his best and it is the roughness that comes into his voice that makes it so. Like Billie Holiday, Sinatra's vocal imperfections add character to the music that is not present in their earlier work.
@chetcarman3530

@@williamwhalen746 I agree, but this is such a late performance that it's not just the weathered quality of voice he grew into over the years, but simply a little age making it harder for him to nail some of the softer passages -- control. I agree re Reprise period -- coming back after his time off, developing his mid-career, new voice was when he really won me over & made me a fan. (Even though I was a young rock & roller, 'Ala Elvis & The Beatles, Frank, Buddy Rich, Nat King Cole & a few other Old School artists had me as well.)

The original song from France is called, Comme d'habitude which means 'As Usual". David Bowie was hired to write English lyrics to the original tune, which he called "Even a Fool Learns to Love.", but then Paul Anka gave it a go and that is the song "My Way" that Frank ended up singing. The success of "My Way" instead of his song motivated Bowie to write "Life on Mars?" as a parody of Sinatra's recording.

This song was used, hilariously, in a movie called The End (starring Burt Reynolds). Burt plays a guy mistakenly diagnosed with terminal cancer. At the climax of the movie he swims out in the ocean (to end it all). He changes his mind and calls out to God "God, if you let me live, I'll give you 90% of what I make." Then, as he gets closer to the shore, the percentage gets smaller and smaller.

Oh Lord, what a difficult choice. You do realize that Frank Sinatra's career started in the 30's and was active until his death in 1998. He is considered by many to be one the most influential artists of the 20th century. He released 59 studio albums and 297 singles. I'll offer some choices from his classics (like that really narrows down my options). I would recommend "Luck be a Lady," "Fly Me to the Moon," "The Lady is a Tramp," "All I Need is the Girl," "Me and My Shadow" w/Sammy Davis Jr., and "It was a Very Good Year."
