Mine was back when I was trying on wrist bands and hair bands back in elementary, I thought that not many would have it, since most kinds of kids were obsessed being friends with someone whose popular and getting their style instead, but I was wrong including the cute decor hand clips that were colorful, when I got out of elementary and I got into 6th grade, outside of school someone wore the same old shit I used to have and some hair clips with a hair band, maybe a student I saw when I was in class back in elementary wore a wrist band to class, So yes call me basic, But basic With fashionable sense 💕

@@t.o903 No she already got crap before that… People were calling her „satanic“ and „mentally ill“ because she stopped adhering to the male gaze. It‘s all because she cut her hair short and wore less to no makeup more often and less feminine clothes. And because she got some new tattoos and was exploring a more goth/alt style. Girls missed the „old“ girly Doja which was really just her pop persona and men were complaining about how they couldn‘t jerk off to her anymore. It‘s so sick how „fans“ only liked her for how she used to look

@@t.o903 Also real fans know that Doja loves trolling and has done so for years. Alot of the stuff she has tweeted in the last months wasn‘t that deep or serious. Her past interviews or tearful reactions to accolades show that she did have some emotional attachment to her music and pride in it. But she‘s tired of it now and feeling suffocated by that old image and sound that she now wants to change. Can we blame her for lashing out at fans and calling her own music a cash grab, when 90% of basic pop music and artists are literally the same?

As a creative director and someone also building a KZitem channel, I live by the motto of Great artist steal. Most of the films we love are heavily inspired or steal from the films that inspired them, songs are sampled to make other amazing songs everyday, in art and fashion styles are influenced and inspired constantly to further the art. That doesn’t make any of them any less valid. We have so many platforms to draw inspiration from and add our own spins accordingly. No one steals the same, that’s THE BEAUTY OF CREATIVITY AND INDIVIDUALITY! I’m constantly inspired by other content creators on KZitem for my channel and In my career as a Creative Director so I think originality and creativity lies in what you do with the idea 😌

I agreee with you, I studied art history and when you know where to look you find copies over copies, great artists learn by copying and then changing the amount of what is copied and what's your own ideas or how you mix things. BUT if you're an lazy ass just using someone else's work as your own or copying so closely that it's actually theft I'm not okay with it. Naah I don't support that. Often the original creators don't have the same platform to receive recognition of their works. People we coin as creators of something we're never the originals. And as someone in the creative space it could be disheartening. And to have your creative work heavily lifted without any effort... Some people are just trying to be famous for the fame of it they'll steal content and have no qualms about it. Everyone wants to be credited for their works

@@LovelyLittleLillies i respect your disagreement. Maybe you took my take in a literal sense. But I feel like we’re all here to inspire one another. I’m not talking about ripping someone off and putting you’re name on it. It’s creating with the inspiration from someone else and using a multitude of inspirations to create ya own. Art is meant to speak to folks and good art coveys action in others so if a photo sparks someone to make a film and they heavily lean on that photo (while giving credit) then i think that’s a beauty thing.

Then I had a history and critic of cinema exam at my university and watched that movie. Although not my favourite movie, in the sense it's not a very rewatchable movie for my taste, is such a good movie that expands cinematic techniques like no others. 12:10 THIS!! IDK how to express my thoughts and emotions but that one line made my eyes water. Ever since I was a child I always believed in "Be Unique". Sometimes to be unique I forget what I like and what I dislike. Right now, I am in my mid-teen years and I am struggling with my confidence. Sometimes I also felt like I need to be unique and different in whatever I do, to chase my dreams and ambitions. Like, I love doing art but when I found out most of the people also do a better job in arts in my class I felt bad and sometimes I was even jealous. I am a person who loves doing multiple things. Sometimes I even forced myself to like some activities so I can be different, and unique and also fit in/relate to what others do. But I was never passionate about those things I forced myself to do. Even though RN I enjoy all things, I am still struggling to do something just by enjoying it. I also want to thank Zoe. Her ways of thinking always allow me to expand my ways. It allows me to see things differently than just believing one person's POV.

Its to empower yourself and keep going until you find people that you fit in with. Society does deem people weird, its a thing which i feel like isnt discussed at all in this video. At that point you can accept who you are and change or you can embrace the fact that others dislikw your weirdness and stay true to yourself.

There was an article I read, years ago now that talked about how misogynistic the term "basic" had evolved to be because it targeted girls/women liking the things that are marketed to them! It's kind of wild when you think about it like that. There's also a great College Humor video from years ago they did about how "frappes are amazing and Christmas lights are cozy! of course you want them!" Like I'll throw the insult at my husband, but it's more as a reference to The Good Place than the actual meaning of it. I don't really care about celebrity drama anymore, I spent a large portion of my life engrossed (I was always around alllllll of the gossip magazines) and it just isn't interesting to me anymore because everyone is terrible now lol. But I did think it the similarities was interesting, but it was also under a microscope, so of course it's going to seem more extreme. People probably latch onto the conspiracy of it because of who the ex is.

If I'm buying something from a place where other people are buying, I'm probably going to match outfits. Unless i ditch it all and start sewing my own stuff, I'm going to be similar to everyone else. And I don't really mind. Just the issue is that clothes aren't made from high quality fabrics. I have a tip in being sustainable with low expenses. Buy simple looking high quality things. I still kinda want to try to be not basic....or...more like, to be different. Like - colouring your hair is maybe basic, but still, when I get on the bus, most people don't have coloured hair or they have just natural colours (brown/blonde). So many people in the world have green hair, but on that bus I'll be still unique. (But it depends where you live and in what age group spend time...) I don't mind to be seen as basic, but I want to be recognizable. I'm autistic, so it's sometimes hard for me to recognize someone by face. But it's much easier, if they have something, that makes them more unique, recognizable, memorable. I think, there are two kinds of people 1) who copy mostly what's popular, just cus it's popular 2) who copy mostly what they really like and from people who they really like and I think that makes them more unique

i really liked your point of views and all in all everything made sense and got me thinking even more about the pick me syndrome (which, as you mentioned, everyone has been there). But i disagree in the part about how is okay for hailey (supposedly) copy selena, just because selena is her husband's ex. If it were any other celebrity with that much similarities, people wouldn't put them against each other (at least not so much). Lets take for example Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo. Olivia has the same little mannerisms on stage. And despite a few jaded swifties, that isnt perceived as copying in a way to "steal" her thunder, but instead inspiration and influence since olivia HAS BEEN a huge taylor fan for years and years. The same goes with sabrina: you CAN say that she has a dress that really looks the one taylor used and they're both fun, blonde performance singers but sabrina isn't copying taylor to 'overthrone' her. In hailey's case, i'd be worried if a girl i know is getting THAT much inspiration from her husband's ex. Its just not healthy (maybe it doesn't come from a place of 'envy' but instead, insecurity. Jelena was for years the goal in young love in hollywood. We as a society LOVED that couple. Its easy to kinda compare your relationship to that 'legacy' and kinda aspire to become as emblematic as a couple as he was with selena bc it feels validating. Its like wanting to be liked and approved by your mother in law who loves her ex-daughter in law. U know? (sorry for any spelling mistakes, english is not my first lenguage)

There is no parthenogenesis in life. That's s fact. It is in only some rare biological and artistic cases in life. So it's the exception. That's undeniable. BUT, one can hold the core of an idea or image or behaviour and fuel it to their authentic expression. Even evolve it to an updated thing of what it was prior. But that's what a stable individual with a sense of identity does. It's not just Haley. A lot of people have copycats and since the internationalisation of the systems and the evolution of the transmission of information to the skyrocketing virality of it, copying and lack of originality and also may I add the dumbing down of human civilization have become the norm and the expected, because we tend to want to be TOO lookalike and of same interests nowadays, (despite of the performative social activism of diversity in the aspect of social justice which is a complete oxymoron in our lives) and tend to thus end up subconsciously or even deliberately creating a mob mentality and a feeding into personally disorders and mental health problems due to the limited and toxic standards society has placed upon humanity, because of this phenomenon of lack or true radicalism and true acceptance or eachother, because of all these negative influences, that we humans do not filter AT ALL. It's a form of control of the general public in actuality, a tactic that's a tale as old as time, with the tool of technological advancements and the skyrocketed use of social media as canon in our lives. Especially since the shift we have had in technology,. Particularly, since COVID when everyone started cocooning and being more introverted and became even antisocial in many cases, for survival reasons and not out of choice, this phenomenon has spread like wild fire hence originally with a depth and not performative originality and actual sense of personal identity, have gone in the gutter. But we can resist these influences and we can put our personal spin on todays trends and social standards or even reject them completely and we can filter out the info if it costs us ourselves and our sanity. Other than that copying someone needs to not be demonized and needs to be critiqued as in viewed in context(is it a young girl or boy that's simply admiring their so called idol? What are the limits in that context? Is it an impresiionable kid? Are there personal peoblems with that individual to make them do that? Etc). Intention (malice or lack of malice) is the key part of the copying. Is it admiration or is appropriation or is it obssession? And what is the end goal? Do they even recognize what they're doing is unorthodox and unhealthy if it crossed the limit? Do they wanna change it? Etc etc. That's all that matters at the end of day. Moral intention along with the extent of the destructive behaviour.

You had one chance to be unique with this Selena-Hailey drama by doing proper research on who wore what first but you decided to be basic and say what everyone else is saying. So I guess you are right when you say no one stands out.

@zoeunlimited i want to hear your thoughts on this. while, i certainly believe that “copying” someone can be a sign of admiration, in my personal experience, tread carefully with this as in the worse case that admiration can morph into something toxic. i sure hope i don’t sound like i have an inflated ego during this storytime! 😂 i have a close friend who i’ve known for quite some time so much so that i see her as a sibling. keep in my mind that this friend was an immigrant coming to america and therefore was being introduced to a different society and culture. with this, she did what she could to “fit in,” learning the fashion, learning the language, etc., and the person she looked up to was me. i never noticed and neither did i particularly care because as mentioned in this video, every person takes inspiration from someone or something including myself! what started as something completely harmless and innocent slowly began morphing into something more concerning: envy. i found a friend whom i loved wholly and dearly slowly starting to become bothered and uncomfortable when i was complimented by others, and getting less enthusiastic when it came to supporting milestones and other feats, viewing me more as a competition rather than a friend. all of these warning signs only truly became real to me when i told her about a boy i was into at the time and she and this boy went behind my back and began a relationship with each other. i was hurt and i was angry, and yet i forgave her. and even now, i know i made the wrong choice. she's not a person who likes to be confronted, and i know since i did confront her about the boy. but even after we essentially “repaired” our friendship, nothing has changed and i found myself having to slowly distance myself from a person i truly love and cherish even now.

Came here to write the exact same thing having experienced a similar situation. What really bugs me is the competition these ‘friends’ feel against us. I didn’t have one but three close friends who all copied my personality, accent, way of walking and what not. It became so toxic and started affecting me mentally to a point that I had to distance myself from them. And I think either you accept their behaviour and save your friendship or choose your peace of mind by cutting them off. There’s no in between.

personally i don't think its the persons fault for being 'basic', they are just trying to fit in whether they know it or not.

True! And often I think things are also "basic" because they are simply very likable and for example a song is very catchy - that's why a vast amount of people like it.

I feel like the new trend of making fun of “pick me” girls is the new excuse yet again to make fun of young girls. Some of these peoples’ accounts are literally ALL ABOUT making fun of other girls (even if they are pick me’s) to the point where it’s obsessive imo.

Pick me girls are girls who look down on other girls to appear more desirable (to men). As a feminist, as a human being, putting others down for your own benefit is not right. My point is that there is a purpose for the hate that 'pick me girls' are getting

They also do with kpop idols when two idols wear the same clothing they think they date. It is even more stupid when people use stage outfits as examples as it is their stylist that choose their outfits then.

I loved this commentary about art and stealing, when copying is done right it's not copying it's inspiration. Also when people are scrutinizing every little thing you wear use or do it's easy to find intersections in what we use and do. (can we talk about how Selena and Hailey are being pitted against each other only for having dated the same man? isn't it a bit ridiculous?)

Was wondering the same thing. And some of the outfits were just all white or all black clothing. Seemed that flowery dress was the only piece they both 100% wore. And I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s an easy piece to find that other celebs have worn. Idk what’s up with the tattoos though that is a bit sketchy, but could be a coincidence, and could be from dating the same guy? The cooking show stuff… hardly original. We’ve got Brooklyn Beckham cooking for us too now 😂

@@Ray03595 if you’re talking about the letter tattoo, it was a thing with her church where their pastors daughter was sick so some of the congregation got her first initial tattooed on them. I also think someone said that they were both spotted with the tattoos in the same week of each other, and I don’t think that you can make arrangements with an artist and get a tattoo that fast (but maybe it’s different for rich people). Editing to add that I just looked it up apparently Hailey got the sparkle/star tattoo about a year before her.

I was bullied my whole life for my style. My bullies dated the guys RIGHT after I dated them. Like no cap. And my bullies went so far as to get the same tattoo placements as me. I have blocked them all from my life. I see I was inspiring to them. But what upsets me is them saying they were the ones who did it first…. I just don’t care at this time of my life. I let them bullies live their life and I moved across the country so they couldn’t follow, date, see the same friends (that made all of them hate me…) everything. I am not joking. I want to spill her name so badly but I know that’s not right. Ugh. I think I’ve let this go lmaoooo 😅

Totally believe you because I had a friend growing up who's always been stunning, but somehow in her school there'd be bullies doing random mean girl stuff like this... And from an outsiders perspective, I just find it AMAZING that anyone would have such an empty life (met alone a group of people) than they'd pay attention to everything a person does and look for ways to mock it? I wonder if it's her pr tactic to get attention and fame. From the few videos I've seen of her she seemed like such a well spoken sweet girl with a lovely personality so it's sad that her life is headed that way, whether that's her doing or the press she receives from the public. Plus Hailey is a full blown model and she fits beauty standards. She could have been an icon.
