I can only imagine how hard this decision was for you, and more than anything it makes me really want to read The Dip. I find myself in this situation all the time and hate quitting as well. It’s good for me to see a figure like yourself being real about things like this.

Thanks for your honesty! And I actually think there's some very valuable advice coming from your willingness to share this message! I, myself, lately have been learning the importance of "managing priorities"; sometimes, in order to be truly productive, you have to know when certain tasks are not contributing much to your long-term / ultimate goals, and you have to put them on the "back burner" for a little bit so you can put more time and focus into the things that actually do matter. I find that this makes each day feel more productive and satisfying, but it does take a little practice. I'm always learning so much from you, Graham; thanks for being so authentic and generous with your wisdom and knowledge!

Graham, dude, your work pace is already so incredible, even shutting this down now you've probably read more books than some people will read in a lifetime. I feel your pain, you inspired me to start my own challenge, 24 books in 2024. The reading plus reviews, and getting other work done is hard. However, I am incredibly thankful for what you started, I would have never thought of doing it with my clients unless I saw your challenge first. But, you also created a bunch of work for me, thanks a lot! We are still going, but I stopped reviewing each book and switched to asking the group to provide their own reviews and comments. Takes some of the pressure off.

Thanks for doing this challenge! I enjoyed your recaps. It made me want to be intentional to read and track more reading. I’ve finished 8, and I hope to average 1.5 finished books a month, so 18-20 books total this year!

Graham, thanks for your honesty! Actually if you could just put somewhere the names of all the books you read, it would be incredibly helpful! And much easier for you too. We’d be very happy with that too!

Good for you brother! I was telling my wife about your challenge and she thought you were crazy to do that! Hehehe. I appreciate how far you took it and from the sounds of it you really did read 52 books this year. Great lesson and advice!

Oddly enough, I think The Dip was my favorite book you reviewed. Will be reading it one day for sure! Last year I read 0 books, but your challenge inspired me to read more... and this year I've already read 12 going on 13. You gave me the nudge I needed to read more. Sad to see your challenge end, but completely understand! :)

Love your integrity Graham!! Yea when you make it part of your "job" it becomes a chore and it takes out the joy of it!! I bite off more than I can chew all tha time. It sucks, but putting yourself first is so vital to living a good life. I read 1 book this year....your book.

I totally get it. It stinks when you force something you love and it ends up almost being a burden where you begin to resent that activity. You can continue at your own pace and be able to still love it.

As Zakary said, I too can only imagine how difficult it was for you to decide to stop this challenge. This is exactly why I follow your content Graham. You are so good at keeping your highest priorities at the top: your quality of life. I learn so much from you, the quality of my life improves from watching your content.

It's okay, Graham. I understand. As a psychologist, I can tell you that this is a known principle: that intrinsic motivation for something someone already loves is decreased once a reward for that same activity is put in place. As humans, our minds reason that there is only one reason why we do things: it's either because we love it, or because we've been offered a reward (or are being "forced") to do it. Go back to your own schedule and love reading again!!!!

I wouldn't necessarily call it quitting. I'd say you're being aware of, and responsive to, your results, and adjusting your behaviors accordingly. That's vital to success and wellbeing. You're doing this for all the right reasons and teaching a valuable lesson to your followers, including me! That's got to be worth recognizing more than "quitting", right? ❤🤙

I started the challenge & got to about 16 books/weeks in & felt quite burnt out on reading. Reading felt like more of a task & i felt like i had to finish books quickly without really processing the info in them. The good news is that's still the most books I've read in a year regardless if I read another book this year, and I still want to read regularly but without being bound to a goal

Perhaps there is a lesson learned on spontaneity vs “goal setting”? Learning comes from daily life experience (as well as reading about others experiences).. Don’t think of it as “quitting”; there is a “lesson learned” here for all!

Reading the Bible (New Testament) daily automatically brings the power of Christ (God) to be successful in life. If you read 5 chapters a day, you would read the entire New Testament once every 2 months. Kindle books are usually less expensive and you can read on a plane.
