Great video! Your channel really does connect consumers with their food sources. I think if people get to see young farmers like you and your brother, they will care more about farming and farmers. Keep up the good work. 👍👍😁❤️

Level-headed brothers, looking at their world with a great deal of clarity, diversification is the future and the recognition that their future rests in their own hands.

Great discussion regarding farming. We have similar issues and situations in the states, family farms dwindling, megafarms developing. Bill Gates is the largest land owner now. He is rapidly buying farmland.

All commodities generally don’t keep up with inflation, only option is to improve efficiency. Unfortunately this Usually means in ag, get bigger or die. Money printing by governments seam to make this worse. Same issues for me 30 yrs ago. Today diversified income stream and selling direct to customers appears to be a viable option. You are somewhat fortunate that in the hay biz you are price setting, instead of price taking like most other commodities. Good luck.

Yes that’s true but i also think people need to be willing to pay more for food and not expect basement prices.

Lovely listening to you both. Is there a local market where you are? We have one around here (very rural area, no shops in the village) where the local poultry/veg/lamb/etc farmers have stalls. It‘s great to support local. You know what you got on your plate. Nothing like a nice roast, puds, sprouts …. mouthwatering 🤤 George’s last comment 🤣 rofl

Being one of those who left farming during a time when the outlook was pretty bleak, I’d say there will be peaks and troughs, adding value such as the hay business, and not to go big for the sake of it. Finally making connections is hugely important.

Will, a very nice video with George and you having a very frank discussion about the current state of farming and getting it all sorted out. I liked you pointed out how dynamic farming is through the years, leading to farming in a smart manner and carpe diem of opportunities. Indeed, the two of you are complimentary individuals which is an asset. If I may ask, what area of specialization is George’s uni degree, please?

Great discussion. Future is not looking good 😕. Input costs too high for what the farmer gets paid. Most young people here In Ireland are working off farm to make a living.

Where is the future of farming going...pretty simple...either really large and commercial or you're going to find a niche, fill it and live how you want...now the question is in your court, which do you want to be a slave to the commercial market or a slave to the market you created...I'm not kidding, it's not hypothetical, it's the reality of today...or maybe you can be really good and straddle the line of both. Sell to both the "organic" or whatever that means market direct and the rest you can send to the chutes or you can pick 1 of the 2... I'm not sure which is the right one, or if either is right...good luck
