As someone who works in the environmental field, I'd like to just verbalize that part of ethical consumption is also considering the amount of waste generated that ultimately goes into a landfill. These cheap items will not last, so we are inevitably throwing our money away by buying in excess from these sites. I think it's important to say this because once we throw away an item, we no longer think about it or what its impacts are after we're done with it.

This reminds me of the old saying "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!". I watched that Superbowl commercial and was sketched out by it then. But the Temu tagline "Shop like a Billionaire" is ridiculous. Im not saying that everyone who is rich handles their money well, and there are definitely those who make crazy hauls, but most people who stay rich do so because they understand how to save money. If I had to spend $600 on something, or even just clothing I would much rather invest in something of quality. I have never purchased from Tumu or Shein but I am guilty of buying a cheap tshirt hear and there from Target or Old Navy (and they are also problematic) but i tend to wear those shirts into the ground, then cut them up and use them as dust rags. I saw a recent instagram post from someone I follow promoting a TEMU product and what is so crazy mind-blowing and disheartening is t that she is someone I met though the NYC VINTAGE community!! Like, she of all people should know better, right? For the sake of transparency I'll mention I used to work for h&m --bills to pay, etc--but even I wasn't tagging them in posts when I wore h&m items (and there's a whole conversation to be had about how sustainability isn't just about where you shop, but also the care and re-wear of the items you purchase, as I own literal vintage --20+ years old --h&m items. I appreciate you using your platform to call out this TEMU disaster. The part about "no ethical consumption under capitalism= so people just aren't even gonna try" is the worst, most frustrating part, I think. The active choice to continually shop unethically when you have the means to do and be so much better than that. 💔

I have an H&M sequined t-shirt I've had for years. Aside from having a hem repaired, it's still in great condition. I used to work in a Walmart. For years, I could only afford shoes from there even though they always fell apart within a year. After paying off my last car, I bought my first pair of Skechers. They lasted quite a few years. "I've been frustrated with cruelty-free to animals being the point of concern in the beauty world when unethical labor practices are ignored. I was thrilled to watch your Temu video, which brought to my attention this video discussing the unethical labor practices. I've been struggling with buying anything made in China, unless obtained from a thrift store, because I don't know how to tell if the labor producing it was not "slave" labor. For beauty world examples: e.l.f. seems to make everything in China; all makeup brushes, except for handmade Japanese brushes, are made in China; most eyeshadow palettes that I'm interested in are made in China (i.e. Juvia's Place, Glamlite, Blend Bunny, Oden's Eye, Nomad); Flower Knows is a Chinese brand that I really want to try after @Tarababyz raving reviews. Thank you for making this video. This company always gave me Shein/Wish vibes, so I didn’t want to support them, and now I definitely know not to!

Kelly, I never heard of Pin Duo Duo. I for sure don't agree with the conterfeit products made with unsafe ingredients. Wow, do we need more toxins especially lead and mistreatment of workers -and to add animals. I like the Asian people and other ethnicities but not their government, and with the shipping issue, I dont even want to deal with it. I agree about Temu and Shein and Wish and yes those who knowingly promote it anyways. I always had a "WISH" list, but it stayed as that. I am suspicious when anything is too good to be true and I didn't "need" the items. Ugh, it's almost like those companies are mocking the U.S. Thinking we are "worldly" and pushing to consume, consume. I am trying to learn the truth and don't want to act out of hearsay, but these companies are a NO for me. Thanks for the video.

I 💯 agree! I refuse to watch videos with Temu or Sheglam promotions. I've even started to stop watching videos that start off with...this video is sponsored by...and then they proceed to talk for 2 to 3 mins about the products. I get it but I don't need a full on dissertation about the product. I'm good with a simple statement. This video is sponsored by....and then move on to the rest of the video. If I want to know more about the product I'll click the link...which I often do. Which is another pet peeve....when YTbers don't put links!

Not a fan of this brand. It took five requests from me to "not see this ad" for them to stop showing up in my promotions folder! Blergh!

I'm glad to finally see someone who doesn't or isn't going to do a video with Temu products. I have never or plan to purchase any products from Temu, shein or wish.

I had never heard of them until a couple of days when I was shopping online for a jumpsuit. Half of the results on Google were for this retailer. Everything was so cheap I just knew there was a catch. I hate fast fashion anyway so I would never buy from them. I’m glad to know more about them though.

Wow, these drop shipment companies like wish and temu know how to target the average person. 😮💨 Thanks for doing a video on this topic!

Thank you!! My company (marketing) has been getting emails from them on the daily. The latest one was for Nintendo Switch (that I've seen being advertised for $11) that we could get for free from them if we include them in our marketing materials.

An $11 Nintendo Switch? Yeah, that's not suspicious at all. 🙄

@@vickiweber4718😂 right. I feel like false advertising like that should be a hefty fine for companies. But, we all know nothing will happen.

I keep getting sooo many ads from them all over KZitem and I'm soooo annoyed by them tbh. Thank you for making this video! Edit: I even got an ad from them on this video, which is incredibly ironic

I’m a small channel and have also been contacted by them. I have no interest involving myself with this company. Some people here on KZitem have been saying it’s the new Amazon… 🙄 I highly doubt that! Thanks for this video. 💕😊

100% agree! So much waste! Who needs that many new products???Weekly hauls, tons & tons of new skincare, hair care & makeup. Unreal! There is no way anyone can try out that many products so quickly & give honest reviews. I no longer subscribe to their channels.

Kelly, have you ever considered making a podcast, exploring the things you do in your video about brands/trends? I think you'd be great at this!! It's apparent you put a lot of time and thought into the research you do, and I always find your videos so informative, but also very entertaining! Great work, as always 👏

and you wonder why so many problems in the world people care more about what they can get out of it rather then ask wait ? how is it that cheap? cant be ethical

Agreed. I perceived red flags right away with this shopping site. I’m not wasting my money on anything else produced or sold in China.

I ordered some Mansly brand lipsticks, a brand I have bought previously, and am very pleased with them. Mansly is a legitimate Asian makeup brand. I also bought a couple Gege Bear brand lip mousse shades and they're now my go to favorite lip product. Gege bear is also a known real brand. It would be hard though to know unless you have spent time in Asia to sift out the reasonable and good quality Asian drugstore products on there from suspect fake/no-brand tat. Also, yes, it does make one have to step back and firmly put the foot down on over-consuming because it does make it so very easy when prices are so low. One does not need all 25 shades of that 1.73 lip mousse. I would agree though 95% of the rest of the makeup on there is dollar-tree garbage. I would describe the site as a neverending Walmart clearance aisle. It's all cheap, but do you NEED it?
