Most of those aren’t even big. A 3-5” swimbait isn’t big. I throw lots of 3-5” swimbaits but big to me is 6” or bigger. The sweet spot is gonna be a 7” one. A 7” swimbait will attract those giant fish but will still get bit by those smaller ones too.

Terminator spinner baits were like that for me. They were 60 or 70 dollars each in the late 90s when they first came out. I finally bought a pair and lost one of them 1st cast. Being a highschool student i was heartbroken over losing that much money first cast but went on ti catch the biggest bass of my life on the second bait on the same trip. Well worth the money.

I think the whole big lures attract big fish is a bit of an exaggeration. Sure, if you tell me you may increase your chances of catching bigger fish off bigger lures while weeding out the smaller ones, I'll buy into that. But I still think it isn't as linear as people lead you to believe. I caught my smallest bass of the year (a 6 inch smallmouth) off of a huge popper and the biggest bass of the year (a 10 pound largemouth) off a 4.5 inch slug-go. I'm still flabbergasted the smallmouth tried to hit that.

I make my own large swim baits. Not payin $50-$100 for a $15-$20 lure then risk losing it. I make them from both wood, resin and/or rubber, either by carving or casting in a mould. Takes a bit but, that's what winter time is for. For the price of one $100 bait, I can make 6 to 10. And yes, bigger baits do catch bigger fish

Those are all relatively cheap and readily available in the swimbait game too. This year was my first years fishing big swimbaits exclusively. My go to baits have been rats. Id say i got 50 rat fish since march and thats probably 90% of my total fish caught this year. I never thought in a million years my confidence bait would ever be a 10 inch rat. Fishing big baits exclusively has made fishing fun again for me. Ive lost a easy 500 in big softies this year and another few hundred in bulkshads. For some reason i cant keep a slow sink swimmer, 2 knocker or 4 x4 from bullshad. Thankfully theyre also the cheapest baits i own and are easy to replace

They catch fishermen, not many fish. You need 2 lures, especially in small ponds and lakes, 95% of lures are a waste for f money. If you only throw these 2 lures for the rest of your life you’ll catch more fish then someone who buys every scam lure and has tons of lures in their box. 1. popper( solid color with feather buck tail) 2, senko (any solid color, ). Blueberry, redshad
@fredeb67
Жыл бұрын
I used to buy Rapala lures. They were expensive in the 80s and now they are just crazy in price. It was cheaper to just buy fish at the market. Now that many lakes are infested with gators and snakes, it prohibits the idea of retrieving the lure by swimming or walking to the snag.
@edwardcowan7012

If you want to catch bigger than average fish on a consistent basis a jig (flipping or swim) is the most proven way to accomplish that. I don’t even own a glide bait. Large deep diving crankbaits, buzz baits and walking top water are also proven productive for larger than average fish!
@randomconsumer4494

Fish for what's in your water... if you fish heavily pressured creeks and ponds, no point in throwing big baits, there are no fish to eat them. You cast those in most of my spots you are only gonna catch grass, air and stick bass. If someone wants to learn big baits for cheap, check the clearance isles. Bass pro regularly has clearance online. Ollie's is a good spot if you have it.

I just use spinners, jigs, and rubber baits. Honestly I find that alot of these lures seem to not be worth the headache in most areas. Nothings more annoying than snagging a downed tree with the brand new lure you just bought. Now if I snag with a 7 dollar spinner or cheap rubber bait/jig I'll just throw another on without a second thought. Also I never really noticed an advantage for lures over these things I've mentioned. In fact around here I seem to catch alot less with lures. Where a spinner or some rubber bait will reel them in all day
