I bought this five years ago after 50 years of sharpening with a hand file. Best money I ever spent, Works great and saves a ton of time and work. Highly recommended.

Well why would he when he has a servant just sharpening the chains whenever he fucks it up? Cut the cord. Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he can feed himself for life.

I had one and used it a bunch for around 7months and I consider it to be a stepping stone to the ultimate chain sharpener.....hand files.

I also had one that I ended up giving away. I just thought that there was way to much play in it to do a really good job. I then got a Stihl two in one sharpener, a big step up from the harbor freight grinder. I also file a lot by hand, once you get it down it is a superior choice.

Thank you for the review of the HF sharpener. I was thinking of purchasing it, but I wasn’t sure if it was worth trying. I’m going to pick one up, based on your video and give it a shot. I have 4 dull chains waiting to be sharpened.

worked great for me... took like 30 min to figure out how to use it.. but after that it took me like 2 min to sharpen a 20 inch chain that could barely cut a little branch on a tree, was burning the wood... after i used it.. it cut through the trees like butter... for 30$ yea worth it.. because new chains are like 20-30$ lol.

I like hand sharpening, but I have one of these as well. IMO there's no comparison. The HF grinder is great for nicked teeth, to fix teeth before hand filing, but is nowhere near as sharp as it can be

A couple of wedges behind the cut every 2ft or so takes the weight of the slab off the chain, your cutting time will be a bit faster.

HF sharpeners work. Somewhat. I've had two over the years. But are so incredibly flimsy with all parts being plastic and flexing that the chain may come out sharper than before but it's impossible to achieve uniform teeth configuration. After years of struggling, I finally bit the bullet and got an Oregon 410-120 sharpener for $200 (next day the price rose to $220!). Is it more expensive? Sure. Is it 6 times better? Absolutely!!! Actually, a lot more than that. I am not being bias here - I buy a lot of stuff from HF, and some of it is not only best as far as price/value ration goes but even objectively good. For example, Hercules miter saw is cheaper AND at least as good as than Devault. Unfortunately, this item is what gives HF bad name.

Can you help me understand why you were skipping every other tooth?
@coloradostrong

The chain has a left and a right cutting tooth. You sharpen either all of the left ones first, and then do all of the right ones next. Or all of the right ones first and then the left ones. It doesn't matter which tooth you start with, but every other tooth faces the opposite of the one in front or behind the one you are sharpening. Or else you would have to reset the angle of the grinder for each tooth. Does that make sense? The chain is set up like these arrows: > < > < > < > < not like these arrows: > > > > > nor like these arrows: < < < < < but like these: > < > < >

It works fine for the city slicker but from a wood Bucher standpoint until the Moter can run in reverse to sharpen the other cutters to the OUTSIDE you will find one row of the cutters not wearing down as the other side because there not as sharp.

For $30 bucks, it’s an absolute bargain!!! I made a couple of very simple modifications which anyone with common sense will see the need for and it works perfectly. I can sharpen chains in 5 minutes and they work as well as a brand new chain. I will never sharpen a chain by hand again. Anyone who plays guitar will appreciate the music also.
