i have 0 expectation to be any good. 2 reasons 1° everything in the original game is set as part of the story, everything, the monsters, the locations, the sounds of sirens, the dialogue, the emotion every character has, Bloober are not gonna keep everything intact as it is and make it 4k , they are gonna change things and the story isnt gonna make any sense. 2° bloober doesnt know how to create games, they create cheap copies of other games, play layers of fear, that game is so boring, has cheap jumpscare and nothing is fun or interesting or scary. And suposedly layers of fear is their best game, turns out the layers of fear is a cheap copy of PT demo , with distorted stole art.

Mean new dead space, REmake 4, calisto, horror games these days do nothing for me. Look fantastic but nothing unsettling or making me creeped. The OG resident evils and silent hills always got me growing up though. I recently got a used ps2 and been buying old games again to check out and silent hill 2 got me a little. Not as much as when was a kid since I’m older and did play these back then. But once I hit the apartments with its claustrophobic halls, eerie sounds dark dank gross environments, i did notice myself on edge kinda ear to the tv like was hiding in a closet listening for clearness. Did make uncomfortable to press on unsure even tho I knew haha. I just got a copy of code Veronica which I know didn’t scare me as a kid, but it did always leave me unsure and creeped as kid so excited to recheck that out….. havent had horror games these day do though. Was so excited for REmake 3 cause nemesis scared me so much and panicked me hard playing on ps1, but on ps4 remake music was over the top, controls tight and many more options, and dumbly it looked so realistic it just didn’t phase me. So it was meh game whereas I hold the OG re3 as my fav re game. They just don’t have that ability these days I feel I don’t get it lol.

Frankly, I'm not confident about this remake simply because there are just too many areas where the remake could miss the point of the original. Unlike a series like Resident Evil and Dead Space where gameplay is more of the focus, Silent Hill is a far more complex project since it's filled with many themes and details that one could easily miss. They (at least the early Silent Hill games) present these themes and details in a subtle manner - something that Bloober Team isn't really know for (I'm not saying they can't do it; I'm just going off from their past games). As a result, there is more room for error for this particular remake compared to others. I'm also not a fan of the changes that they've made in some of shots from the announcement trailer (e.g., the bathroom mirror, James going to his knees, etc.). It all looks and feels too dramatic than it really needs to be. Of course, I'll wait and see once gameplay footage is revealed but so far, I'm not liking the overall direction. Unless the remake blows everything out of the water, I'd say the best way to play Silent Hill 2 is through the Enhanced Edition or a PS2.

I’d hope they’d just pull the capcom remake route card, and probably are honestly after seeing the success they’ve had it’d be totally stupid to say going to do a remake when we got these stellar remakes to follow as templates on how to remake. Getting the OG composer for our ears, and ito for our sights and his contributions to the original’s lore, I wouldn’t see them allowing drastic things to fall apart. Yea James looks different and he has more emotions, but I feel that’s fine honestly, as someone whose battled mental issues before emotions can be over expressed unknowing. I always thought it was weird someone would go through the events of sh2 virtually blank faced largely. I’d like the confused emotions in the bathroom shot and him washing his hands, he’s fidgety, confused, doesn’t understand or know what’s going on or how it can. He’s kinda emotionless in the shot where he grabs the noose like the thoughts using is surrounding his head and that’s all there is so he just grabs it kinda nonchalantly, he drops down and screams at the other scene showing it’s like he’s battling what’s also within him and gotta be over it. I’d expect a shot in the elevator to be another breakdown of emotions after seeing what transpired with pyramid head and Maria but in the OG he just slumps there. Emotions get manic when people gets real bad so I’m all for it. But I do feel the OG has a charm in way they used it and way it all tied in the end so it can be moot point. I feel with technology I like the idea there going for here, whether they’ll mail it or not is another story, but I’m on board myself at the moment.

Kinda disagree about the game looking good, because the trailer leans so hard into the tragic undertones of James, it’s a fundamental misunderstanding of what made the game so great. Playing the original, you didn’t know how the story was going to end, they didn’t tip their hand like this. So who’s this game made for even? Long time fans noticed this, and new fans who’ve never played the game are having the twist spoiled for them by the game’s own trailer. At best it’ll be a by the numbers soulless copy and that isn’t inherently bad, but the fundamental issue with this kind of remake is that it can only ever match the original, it’ll never be better and there’s a lot of ways it can be worse.

Silent Hill 2 Remeke IS GOING TO FAIL, trust me. There is dozens of reasons. First off - fans already hate it because they think SH2 is a holy cow and should be left untouched. Heck they already say this is heresy to have a remeke here, and they don't understand it bc they screwed the expressios giving too much. Secondly both Medium and such had great story but bad gameplay or NO GAMEPLAY AT ALL. And they always made a walk sims with horror attraction. They can't make anything playable whatsoever. SH2 already had good story, so all they can do is to add more graphics, but they want to remaster the gameplay and add survivor horror. And lastly - West never was good with SH at all, NEVER. Japan devs did mostly great SHs, West ones where either weird, mid or horrible. Ofc Akira n OG artist on the borad with them is great to have but still. Nice graphics won't save it. If they won't touch the story it's a good thing but again it's not thx to them. If they flock up the gameplay they're as good as dead. So ye. It is going to fail. Inevitably

Honestly, if you're really a fan of any of the original for silent hills, you'll probably understand that this company, or any company that isn't team silent, is not going to do Silent Hill to justice at all. It's such a meticulously crafted masterpiece, utilizing every single minute decision regarding music, lack of music, sound effects, visual details, voice acting direction, puzzles, camera angles, an overall story as an almost lightning in a bottle sort of collaboration. Not anything that's just a little creepy can pass as a decent silent hill, as we've seen with the last four games in the series. Those American developed games are what you get when somebody just oversimplifies what they're looking at from the franchise and narrows it down to one or two key features. The original Silent Hill games are not in need of any kind of a remake and asking someone else to not only make something compatibly good but maybe even better is like asking an art student equally recreate the Mona Lisa. There's no reason for it and it's just not possible. There's certain things about the trailer for the game that I'm already not liking, like making James look like a whimpering guilt-ridden mess when James and we are not supposed to know anything about what he had done. The fact that Bloober team through that in their trailer tells me that they do not understand the subtlety that went into crafting the original game. They probably think that any kind of game where you're walking around with some monsters and it's occasionally confusing, makes for a silent hill game. Tom Hulett was the same way and we saw how his produced games turned out. I just wish they would re-release the original four games in the series on Modern consoles without actually trying to upgrade them. I'd be more excited for that than whatever Bloober team is trying their hand at

Team Silent had pretty much nothing to do with SH4. Only 3 people stayed behind to help make that game, and only 2 out of those 3 did anything hands on for it. One was just a producer who was completely hands off with the game. The other 2 were Akira Yamaoka who did the soundtrack (so not technically hands on but still did something for the game) and Masahiro Ito who did some of the monster designs. No other people who worked on the first 3 games did anything for SH4. 95% of Team Silent were absent, which is why the game was absolutely terrible compared to the first 3. That's also why it completely bombed in sales and it's Metacritic scores were only 76% on console and 67% on PC. The game sold so poorly that it was the sole reason Konami gave for selling the rights to the franchise. They stated that after the bad sales and bad reception from critics, and consumers, for SH4 that they no longer considered the franchise to be profitable.

idk, im not to worried about silent hill 2. ik alot of people dont like blooper but at least blooper has experience in making psychological horror unlike some of the other studios that has done silent hill. i feel like one thing Blooper does really good in their games is the art direction and atmosphere. the median even if you dont like the story has great art direction and i think blooper would be able to bring the spookyness and fear into the world of sh2. from what ive seen konomi is making blooper make SH more in line with RE2 remake, a one to one, so im not worried about the story tbh. and i dont honestly get why people are upset at the trailer.. "he's shows to much emotion" or "he looks to depressed" so? a game made for the ps2 isnt gonna show emotions in the face that well, team silent had to work within the ps2 limits. idk it seems crybabyish to be complaining about lil stuff like that. as long as blooper doesnt change the story or drastically change how the town looks and its layout. i dont think we should be that worried. the only thing that would worry me is bugs and glitches, with how games are coming out nowadays and maybe the combat. i just hope konomi is giving blooper the time and resourses they need, id gladly take a delay over a buggy mess.

So it’s interesting really. I get ya, and your right on everything, but I’m veering slightly on the optimistic side. Why? Well when they passed silent hill around in the past they had the devs make them a silent hill, so it was devs trying to capture what team silent always did. Almost why every one after sh4 had similar tropes (example third person, clunky melee, foggy, eerie town.) with slight deviations. They always bombed of course an I feel it’s cause every one was chasing and using team Silent’s template…….. now on to the broadcast it was a loooong broadcast, real long, I’d say almost too long. Again there passing around silent hill to dev’s, but the theme of the broadcast which gives me hope. They all different. Yea we got a remake of 2 coming but it highly wanted of course. But everything else? It’s all devs doing a silent hill that plays in a way to THERE strengths. Behavior working on a multiplayer live stream like thing. They’re known for there dead by daylight multiplayer game which checks out ( if they did a standard silent like previous ones it’d prolly be challenging rushed and weird for them cause ain’t there strong suit. Silent hill town fall had a teaser of us watching a tv screen unveiling it developed by no code, they made stories untold which was fantastic in its ability to have sit in one spot an entire thing and experience the story and they all wrapped together in the end. So seemed fitting this teaser had us staring at a screen for its announcement so they may be making a silent hill that plays to that strength of there’s. They haven’t made third person action survival like games before so if they tried making a silent hill like older ones again it’d be playing against there signature. Feel like the broadcast was konamis way to emphatize they giving more freedom to devs wanting to work on the series and in doing so we’re gonna be getting lots different things. Again this was my take away watching everything so I’m a bit more optimistic. Now if every announcement was something like “this is Sara and she was troubled as a child and now finds herself in silent hill.” Or “ here we have an amnesiac guy whose dog ran off in the fog and he wakes in search of them, armed with a radio and plank, let’s see him confront his demons to find his pooch.” Or something I’d have rolled my eyes and checked out like did homecoming and downpour. So yea I’m looking forward to this direction and excited to see. As for bloopers work like u said yea they don’t speacil I’ve in combat really, but silent hill 2 didn’t have a lot of combat, was more psychological and a journey with it sprinkled in. So long as they keep that spirit of the original and just kinda tighten up and modernize the combat aspects think it’ll do fine……either way though at this point we really need news or updates. 7months later and not a peep? I mean I understand REmake 4 just released but still was a few months ago at this point just about so it won’t be overshadowed, we need to know what’s up Konami talk to us! Lol.

I love a good comeback story. I’m sure they’ll smash it. There are a lot of eyes on them and they can’t afford to fail. Really all the complainers need to take a backseat. How can they say they wouldn’t be excited to play it regardless? It’s more content we’ve been deprived of. Capcom handed them the playbook so it’s on them to handle it accordingly. If its playable, I’ll run it several times and be glad I own it on hard disk. Also to be fair Konami wasn’t mean to Kojima. He was demanding and narcissistic. Honestly I’m convinced he would’ve made Silent Hill massively convoluted. Even still I would’ve played that also.

I'm trying to be realistic. I think that the atmosphere of the original SH2 can never be reproduced, possibly not even if the whole original team got back together, so I also don't expect that from a remake. It should be its own thing. Naturally, it needs to appeal to a younger/new fan base, so the game has to hold up to today's standards in terms of graphics. In that regard I think Bloober Team can do a great job. If it's true what's been told about them being faithful to the original story I see this working out at least well. And if it fails, it fails. I'll still cherish the original games. If this works out though, I'm hoping we could get remakes for 1,3 and 4 as well.

@@ProReborn good point. We are in the days of the internet, imagine if they'd reached out to the former team silent members and had a reunion of sorts to work on this remake? Okay so I agree the last few devs were just Konami whoring out the franchise, but now the devs seem to have been chosen with some real care. Bloober, who has a lot of experience with horror games, gets a chance to remake a game that is the inspiration to everything they made. I mean when I say, I don’t know how some of them will be able to live with themselves if they fuck this up. Silent hill ascension is being co developed by behaviour interactive, who have shown how well they can adapt silent hill into a game like dead by daylight, with one of the best killers, survivors and maps of the game. The choices really have seemed to be made with more care, and I also appreciate that Ito and Yamaoka will have a good deal of creative influence over the game. The story is set for sh2, Bloober just needs to modernise the gameplay. They’ve confirmed the story is set to be very similar to the original, which is a good sign. Hopefully we get more news this June/July, because I’m very excited for the future. I agree though, silent hill 2 can’t just be good, it needs to be great, amazing, the beautiful masterpiece that it always was. Hoping for a 90+ on metacritic.

They should have remade SH4 instead, that game despite having potentially the coolest concept in the franchise is held back by the most horrible combat in the series, some of the worst enemy designs, and limited inventory. SH2 was never about combat, it was about plot twist and delivery of it. They will capitalise on cult status of the game and that's it. Even SH1 deserves remake more than second.

Finally, a sober, less hyped opinion. It's great to see Silent Hill back, but, it makes you wonder if it wasn't better if Silent Hill had remained dormant, because at least the old games are remembered fondly as the masterpieces that they are, instead of a possibly bitter, recent memory. On top of that, Konami doesn't give a rat's ass about it, they are absolutely, completely, unapologetically uninterested in their legacy. Bloober team, besides being passionate and very good in delivering beautiful looking games, doesn't know how to write (besides The Observer that is, which is a fantastic game). I'm confident that Bloober team could deliver a beautiful looking Silent Hill 2 remaster, but I'm not confident that Bloober team + Konami can deliver a Silent Hill game at all.

A cinematic trailer shouldn't be convincing anyone of what the actual game will be like, especially if any lesson has been learned about modern gaming. They are designed to look good, but hardly any have delivered. I'll have to rebut on Capcom delivering as they messed up entirely with RE3 Remake and have removed content in every remake so far. They always do well with gameplay, but they can't do story to save their life (the recent character assassination of Jill and tonal rollercoaster between action and horror still). Silent Hill is a very easy game to mess up looking at past Western devs thinking they would put their spin on it while superficial things were kept to make it "Silent Hill". Blooper Team is hitting way above their paygrade with this and looking at other decisions Konami has made with IP, they just want money. Most people seem to be looking forward to Silent Hill f, not for SH2 remake, there's just too much of what information is coming out that says it will not be like the original and we can't expect it to be. So there was no point remaking it other than $$$. They already will be making the movie nothing like the game if that isn't clue enough.
