I love seeing stuff like the hot glue in lieu of sewing, because it's something I would never do in my own projects for fear that it'd turn out like crud. But then you see Studson using it to make a decidedly not-crud thing, and it's nice proof that... hey, turns out you don't have to torture yourself with some painstaking part of a project that will probably suck all the fun out of it. So cut yourself some slack, slap some glue on there, have fun, and you'll still end up with a really rad looking project in the end.

Surprisingly, the hot glue is actually pretty strong too. I think I'll start making my own clothes with it
@DannyDevitoOffical-TrustMeBro
Жыл бұрын
There’s actually fabric hot glue for this purpose! It holds more fabrics together better than regular hot glue, as certain types don’t adhere to regular glue as well. Plastic-based fabrics (like studson used) do tend to adhere better with regular hot glue, likely because the heat partially melts the plastic fibers. Sometimes gluing is even better for minuscule projects like this, because threads don’t necessarily match the size ratio of the character. So if you want flat seams, glue is often the way to go. I would know lol, I’m a doll repainter (and life is pain).

I'm sure someone else has already said this, but when you're working with a doll or figurine, you might want to look for a really, really lightweight fabric so that it stands a better chance of laying/wrinkling where you'd expect it to at scale instead of just stiffly hanging. Gauze, batiste, and chiffon would all be good choices. Your spandex blend looks good--just thought I'd speak up in case it saves you a little agony later on!

Looks awesome, making custom action figures is something I've always wanted to try little tip from a miniature painter, the reason you use a pink/purple when doing green skin is because it's a contrasting colour to green, and generally you don't cover the base layer completely but leave some of the purple in the recesses/underside, one thing I like to do when painting skin is to re-introduce some of that colour via an airbursh and spray the model from the bottom up to add some depth another tip is to base coat anything you plan to paint gold with a rich browny-red which will give you better coverage, you can then use a browny-red wash to darken the recesses and hit the top edges with a silver to really make it pop
